I worked in Thailand for a couple of years in the late 90s, speak passable Thai and could not have done better.

In China town in the upstairs "tea houses" and in Klong Toey and a lot of the rural brothels you could pick up women for 200 Baht for short time (about $8 at the time, but you had to speak some Thai). Have a Thai friend or taxi driver take you the first time. I used to love to hit the Brothels that catered to the Thais because they weren't jaded by seeing so many foreigners, and would love to give GFE for the chance to talk to you in Thai for next to nothing.
