I had the occasion to be in Panama recently, but only for a short period of time. I had over 22 AA electronic upgrades burning a hole in my computer screen and the ticket was relatively inexpensive, so I figured what the heck. All of my upgrades ended up going through and the counter rep, upon checking in, was able to cut one of the flights off my ticket and get me to Panama City with fewer flights.

To say I was completely uninspired or excited about this trip would be a huge understatement. Sandman recently posted about 15 pounds more for every woman and compared to other places I had traveled to, I expected Panama to rank near the bottom. But given the chance to stop thinking about work for a few days and go to a relatively close destination in first class seemed too good an opportunity to pass up.

I must say though, that I am completely bummed with the Admiral’s Club lounges in DFW and other places. After recently spending more time in Cathay’s lounges in Hong Kong, the Admiral Club’s just can’t hold a candle to Cathay. The serve yourself free food, beer, liquor and ice cream that is sprinkled all around Cathay’s lounges makes the Admiral’s Clubs look like Double A when compared to the major leaguer that is Cathay’s lounge in Hong Kong. I also feel the comparison is valid, given both cities are worldwide headquarters for each airline.

One positive about DFW is that the new Skylink elevated train system is now operational. It makes changing flights (especially when flights are running late or you have short transfers times) a lot easier and quicker. The old TrAAin system went ridiculously slow, especially around corners and turns. Skylink accelerated and ran quicker and there was never a long wait for a train. Transit through DFW is now a whole lot better!

Anyway, the longest flight time was only 2 and half hours and that was from Miami to Panama City. I was able to sleep almost all the way there given I had a 6am flight out of my home town in the morning and ended up getting only 3 hours of sleep the night before I departed. I arrived in Panama City on time around 8:30 at night. I had booked a driver through the hotel, the Torres de Alba Apartment Hotel

Customs was a breeze after purchasing a $5 tourist card, but a bad trend I have done recently is forgetting to fill out my customs and immigrations forms before arriving on my past few trips. I keep sleeping on the flights and forgetting to do it. I get off the plane first, but then am quickly bypassed by everyone else that already has their paperwork filled out. The airport seemed surprisingly modern and nice and I noticed an Admiral’s Club after getting off the plane.

My name was horribly misspelled by my driver, but it was close enough. It was about a 15-20 minute taxi ride from the airport to the city. When I made my reservation I had asked for a king size bed, but they only had two doubles as all the kings were taken. I checked in, showered and cleaned up, and then headed to Golden Time. The poster in the Torres De Alba thread was right about the horrible yellow bed covers. The rooms are so nice, but the bed covers are just completely out of place there. The Torres De Alba is also in a nice central location that I liked a lot. It is about 50-100 yards away from Oasis, but there are several shops, places to eat and internet cafes right down the street from Torres De Alba. Highly recommended!

I had taken the advice of the board that said don’t let a taxi take you directly to Golden Time. I tried the whole “Take me to Plaza California” thing and the taxi driver drove in circles for a few minutes. I finally relented and told him Plaza Mirage, but he still didn’t know about it. He stopped to ask another taxi driver, who seemed to point him in the correct direction. I was still holding out hope I could avoid the taxi commission at Golden Time. By this time the Burger King in Plaza California was closed, but I had the taxi driver drop me off next to it.

I guess he just didn’t know about the taxi commission for Golden Time, because he drove off as I was walking towards the Popeye’s chicken. After he was completely gone, I headed down to Golden Time.

Upon entering GT there is a cashier directly to the right. Straight ahead there are double doors, I think. After entering through these doors, there is a huge congregation of women in a room directly to the left. There are stairs on the right and then a “viewing room” down the hallway and to the left with several chairs in it. I agree that Ciudad de Panama is a great tourist place and for those that want the comforts of the U.S./Western Europe - safe drinking water, low crime (other than Chorillo or Casco Viejo at night) and a modern infrastructure - plus rainforests, beaches (outside of PC) and the Panama Canal. However, its nightlife is somewhat lacking and expensive, especially compared to Colombia.

I had a feeling several people would suggest I shoud had gone to Colombia instead.

But I didn't go for two reasons.

One is that the ticket to Panama was considerably cheaper this time of year. It was also much easier to get to (total travel time) on American than any city in Colombia. (I looked at CLO, CTG, MDE and BOG.) The relatively short duration of my total trip didn't make the added expense or added travel time of getting to Colombia worthwhile. Since I don't live in a hub city and since I booked late, all the flights to Colombia when I booked my trip to Panama City were overnight flights and would have taken 24 hours or so.

2. I am still working up to Colombia. I was thinking of a trip later this year, but it will have to wait for next year.

Sf4dfish, you are correct when compared to my FKK totals. I wish I could get back to Germany this year as well and repeat those feats. But that is not in the cards for me. Hopefully when the dollar gets closer to parity with the Euro I will try again. And if PTY had anything close to an FKK, with the vast assortment of talent, I WOULD HAVE BEEN APPROACHING those numbers!

Day Two

I slept a little later than I would have liked this day, but it really didn’t hinder my day and I eventually ended up getting in quite a few sessions. I didn't take out, but if you do, plan on it being over $300 US. I think the barfine is $130 plus $150-$250 for the lady. Better to try and get phone numbers.

But that was about it. Given the busy Memorial Day weekend I didn’t have many problems.

Philippines has moved up from the number 2 spot to 1A. I don’t remember how I use to rank beyond the top three. I had a blast on my last Philippines trip and that is why I am taking a four day trip there over July 4th using miles.

I would not recommend making a specific trip to Panama, like I did, just to check out the sex scene. I like to travel so it was worth it for me. It was also an expensive ticket that I was able to upgrade, so it wasn’t too bad. The redeeming part of this trip was the fact I won most of my trip expenses back at the casino. That left me with a really positive impression overall. If someone is going to be there on business, they should definitely partake in the hobby. The prices are expensive in some places, quite reasonable in others. It has a wide variety of places (as far as cost, not so much in ladies) and that is nice, actually. The town seemed relatively friendly and clean, save for a few parts. Taxis were cheap and easy to find. Torres De Alba was a great apart-hotel for a reasonable price. It had nice facilities and a super friendly and efficient staff, but I never got to check out their guest policy. I don’t imagine it would have been a problem though.

So there you have it. My short 2 day, three night trip to Panama. Not great, not too bad. One of these days I will just go to the source and find me some Colombians in country.
