After a week in Bangkok off to vietnam we went. It was good as I was falling in love with my thai bar girl...made all the mistakes, buying spree, too much money for little sex. I've posted several nightly fun reports and the request for more info via email has been tremendous. So I've made an effort (great for me) to compile a more comprehensive report on my week in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).

Before we left for Bangkok, we planned our trip to Saigon so got our visa's taken care of in the US. You need a visa so if it's a last minute thing, you'll need your travel agent to procure it for you and it'll take 3-4 days.

Once you have a visa, thai air and lufthansa has twice daily flights to HCM city and it costs around $150 round trip. Check around as the prices varied as much as $50 us between the agents. I liked the brit guy who has an agency in the Ambassador Hotel shopping gallery. Knowledgeable and friendly.

Once we landed at the airport, you can see that we went back in time in terms of sophistication. The military uniformed airport personnel were curt and all business. You need your visa and the location you will be staying in. I didn't have the hotel info and the guy almost didn't let me through. Last minute, I dug up a scrap of paper where I wrote down our itinery with the hotel info and was able to get through.

To get some cash, we cashed a $100 us for dong and got $1.5 mil dong....we were going to have fun.

We negotiated with a cabby for $5 us for a cab ride to our hotel and off we went. Hot, humid and slow is the only way to describe the traffic from the airport to our hotel. The cars, bicycles, scooters, motor cycles and pedestrians seems like chaos but once you get used to it is a blast to manuever and people watch.

Our hotel was called Bach Dang hotel in District 1, it's the 'entertainment district' and is close to most bars, discos etc. Also the backpacker area is in district one and the biggest shopping area. I believe we were a block away from the Westin (I may be wrong on the brand) high rise upscale hotel.

Bach dang was nice, clean, but small. The front desk girl was a cutie and spoke english well. Remember...Good girls are very conservative so don't make a fool of yourself and make tourists look like pervs by hitting on normal girls in obscene ways. Just a caveat.

Around 9pm we finished settling in and decided to check out the action. We walk out the front door of our hotel and from across the street we hear girls screaming for us. We're in the right place. We head on over and go in, we're initially surrounded by girls but two separate and 'take possession' of us as we go to the bar. The quality is good and we order a few drinks including 'lady drinks' for $50,000 dong about $3.5 us. The girls english is pretty good and we're settling in when they say "let's go upstairs.." Ok what are we talking about? Sex. I've made a small post called "blowjob marathon" check it if you want details. The deed was quoted at $500,000 dong and I got it down to $300,000 dong. All said and done, a fun night. Around 2am we head back to hotel, and it's LOCKED...we bang on the door and whew a doorman opens the door. I guess it's policy of smaller hotels that they lock the doors but have someone available 24hrs to open doors. Check with your hotel for late hours policy.

Bkkguru: there was a safe in the room. I never saw a cop hassel anyone. But the clubs/disco's close early around 12 am. Some bars which stay open are supposed to be connected.

I was there last April and the place is moving in the right direction from what I could see. The girls are verrrrry low key.

Just a personal opinion, Vietnam will never be a Philippines or Thailand when it comes to vice but will have enough sanuk to satisfy most mongers.

I know people say go to Cambodia for Vietnamese women but those are the lowest of the low in terms of Vietnamese ladies. Saigon has tons to offer.

Can you give me a bit more info on where exactly in Saigon one finds the cutest babes? I'm staying at a slightly more upscale hotel (making this trip alone, i wanted to be safer) and assume I can't swing a visitor, but a) where are the top notch ldies and b) are the upstairs rooms in these bars safe? I'm sure i'm paranoid, but Thailand is so easy, i don't want to lull myself into a false sense of security.
