Can you tell that I am excited about this trip? I have started writing my trip report and I am not even there yet!
Now having one international trip under my belt, I wanted to make this a more complete report than the last one. If possible, I plan to make daily diary reports from Thailand while I am there and the information is fresh in my mind.
While attempting to make this a most complete report, I am also going to have a detailed preface about my planning. I will include things such as my airline and hotel preparation, my item checklist and my "things to do checklist." I probably plan things out a little too much. But I am of the opinion that due diligence and good planning makes for a better experience. In the coming days I will catch up with what I have done to date and how I am finalizing my plans now that big day is almost here.

Blazers,
When will this be? In August or September? If you are in Thailand between September 2nd and the 18th and want to meet up for beer, let me know.

Nevermind. Just reread your post and it sounds like you are leaving any day now.
Ah well. Have fun! What is this? Like 6 times in a year's period now?

About EVA airlines...
You are going to love their service. I flew twice on their Evergreen Deluxe class in the last 6 months (SFO to Taipei)and their service was excellent.

Xen, I'm looking forward to your reports -- living the vicarious life here. For my next trip, I'm seriously thinking of booking with EVA AIR, only thing that makes me hesitant is that I have a shitload of miles with United and I get 150% of miles if I fly a Star Alliance Airlines. Any insights into your actual flight experience would be greatly appreciated.
I would be very curious about the laptop thing b/c I
Also, as you may know, EVA frequent flyer program honors continental airline miles in case you go to Latin or South America soon. Have fun. Merl.

Vser. Thanks. I am looking forward to the flight and have heard nothing but good things about EVA.
Merlin. Rest assured I will be providing as much detail as I can about the trip. Flights and all. Heck, I will probably write some of it on the way out there. What were you saying about the laptop? It seems like that part got cut off.
Ktab27. You still gonna be in Bangkok by September 2nd? The calendar says you leave in late August. If you are still there when I arrive I will be sure to shoot you over an email.

Xen, about the laptop, I too plan on taking my laptop and am wondering if EVA has outlets for the computer. Also, I'd be curious as to how easy it is to hook up to the internet from the hotels. I would think that it is "doable" but the connenction would be unreliable and slow. Merl.

I will see if EVA Air has the outlets for the computer charger and report back to you. I am just taking the extra batteries for this trip.
When I stayed at the Grand President the last time I saw advertisements for DSL access from the rooms. I think some other hotels offer this as well. Will report back on what I find and how good the speed is.

Merlin: Thai Air isa star alliance partner, you can use them from W. coast to BKK

If anyone knows other airlines that have outlets for laptops I'd love to hear about them. I don't know how useful it will be for me, though, as I will likely catch a courier flight and spend the $300+ I save on the girls.
Last trip I stayed at Nana and brought my laptop to the Nana Internet Cafe right behind Am/Pm. They had an ethernet connection that was reasonably smooth, though it got a little more congested later in the day. No big deal, though, as I was often "occupied" then.

Looking forward to some great reports X man! I like Evaair, but their fares are too high for me... and I just grabbed a dirt cheap fair from United for Aggust 26-Sept 5. I want to fly Eva this fall when I go to BKK again just after Halloween, as long as their fares get back down under $1000 (as they did last year for November).
As I recall, Eva Evergreen Deluxe class does NOT have outlets. I have neither heard of nor seen outlets for laptops in anything other than Business and First Class on any airline; however, I have flown Philippine Air to Manila, and some of their older (may I say decrepid) 747s have cigarette lighter outlets in coach. Don't know if they are operable.
I also use the net cafe behind the AM/PM in BKK... I wish they would turn the AC up higher in there for fat Americans like me...
I am getting spoiled by the Manila & Bangkok trips... maybe it's time to stop screwing? NAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My favorite internet cafe' is "World Coffee" a couple of doors down from Majestic on Sukumvit. You have to buy a card from them for 100baht but it gets you 100 minutes of use, just walk in from then on and plug your card into an empty machine. (that's 1 baht per) They have good espresso too ... yes, I am from Seattle.

Mcdijj,
1 Baht per minute is damn good for Bangkok. I will turn left the next time out of Majestic Suites and check them out. Thanks for the tip.

Is it just 1 baht per minute? I thought I remember it being more, but still went there to get some nice cool frappuchino drinks and they have terminals at the windows so you can people watch.
