Day Two:

Slept in a bit and met Don for lunch. We went to a Chinese place he recommended: Chon Kou. It is on Av. Atlantica about two blocks toward the forte from Alcazar’s on the second floor. I enjoyed an excellent order of Gyoza and also a great dish or sweet and sour chicken. Very good. I was beginning to feel optimistic about the food situation here. This place was not cheap, (neither was the Irish Pub, but it was not too pricey and the food was excellent. I think we spent around $R20 or so each in these two places.

Don took me to a good place to get a copy of my passport pages, for $R0,15 each page which is pretty damned cheap!

I was then able to move up to the nice apt. It runs about $1000 a night USD, is not real big, but is extremely nice, well appointed, has a small view of the beach from the bedroom and is outfitted with literally everything you would need. Day Three:

Woke up around 10:30 am and headed out to Alcazar for another cup of horrible coffee. Fortunately I brought my own for the apt., so my first cup or two of the day is good J.

It was difficult to sleep, and so when Don said he and some of the guys were going down to Luomo, I decided to tag along and just hang. It was nice to meet some new friends here, and I also got to see Hemp for the first time this trip. A long time friend of Don’s also came into town and he turned out to be a really nice guy as well.

They ranged from a 0 through 3 rating in terms of spice. I opted to be bold and ordered a pork dish with a rating of 1. When it arrived, I was skeptical, as the meat looked awful dark for pork, but I tried it anyway. It was VERY spicy! It was at this point that Gr8ter pointed out that the dishes had gotten mixed up and I was eating HIS dish which had a lot of spice in it. This was a relief as if this was a one star dish, I was doomed! Mine turned out to be quite good.
The conversations were an amazing range of topics, running from how much Chave’ could eat to the recent Hotdog eating championship in NY where some 86 lb. guy ate 43 hotdogs in 12 minutes. We all then got nostalgic recalling our favorite sweets as a kid. Ding Dongs were a popular topic, as were Reese’s peanut butter cups and Ho Ho’s. The rest of the evening BluesTraveller made comments about wanting a Ho-Ho, it was hilarious. Well, as we were getting ready tog o a gal showed up that Gr8ter’s Favorita had called. Jiao zi (not tse unless your in taiwan) is a quite a bit different from the japanese version.
