I was back in Medellin this past week for 6 days. I’ve been averaging a trip every other month although I have another trip scheduled even sooner. I have a GF down there now who’s not on the program and whose name and face will never grace the internet.
However, that doesn’t stop me from seeing other girls – and the great thing is she knows about it. She’s young, naïve and thinks I’m a great catch – so for now I can have my cake and eat it too.
It’s also gotten very reasonable to fly to MDE as long as you connect through Miami. I paid $517 r/t all-in using Continental and COPA – plus they give free upgrades. Only downside is the flight gets in at 9pm and leaves at 8am – if only it were the other way around.
As MDE has been reported on quite a bit lately, I decided to just chronicle one of the six days of my trip. So here was how I spent last Thursday, August 11, 2005.
I woke up in apartment 706 at the Torre Poblado. Wednesday was unusually hot – it hit 90 degrees, but at 10:00am on Thursday it was overcast and I could tell there was a nice breeze blowing outside. I switched on the TV while my GF was taking a shower. Checked emails on my BlackBerry which now works seamlessly in Medellin. Took a shower and was hungry, but it was too late for breakfast and too early for lunch.
We decided to go to Centro, where I would see my now regular barber Luis for a shave. Luis shaves me so close I only need to see him every other day. I sat in the chair and my GF went upstairs for a pedicure. I’m torn about using Luis – he gives me the closest shave I’ve ever had and he’s never nicked me even once, but it can be downright uncomfortable. I’ve had plenty of barbershop shaves in NY and they don’t sting like Luis. Of course, they don’t cost $2.50 either.
I’m finished before the GF, so I walk around Botero Plaza and stop at a stand for a fresh raspberry shake. Then I sat down and got a shoe-shine under the Metro. Walked back to the Barbershop and the GF was almost finished. It was just after 12:00noon.
We caught a cab and headed back towards Poblado. I had seen a sign the other day announcing a tapas and sangria festival the month of August at a restaurant called Las Cuatro Estaciones (The Four Seasons) located on Cra 43. The restaurant is located at the top of a steep drive, and affords a great view of the valley below.
The restaurant is made up of several rooms and is really elegant, but not as formal as La Fragata. We chose a nice table in an outside room, like an enclosed veranda – you could literally reach out and touch tree branches. The room only had two tables, so we had nice privacy. My GF doesn’t drink, but that didn’t stop me from ordering a pitcher of sangria. I ordered for the both of us and we shared an appetizer platter that included 5 different types of Chorizo! Then she had the filet mignon “medallions” which turned out to be two huge pieces of filet mignon and I had the Four Seasons steak, which was a nice piece of filet topped with queso blanco, mushrooms and shrimp – really exquisite!
Around this time another couple sat down at the table across from us. At first I thought I was a father/daughter, but then I realized I was probably looking at myself 30 years hence. Either that or it’s normal for 70 year-old Colombian fathers to French kiss their 30-something daughters. And there were two other couples of this genre in the main room. I guess it makes sense: the place is elegant and discreet – not too much traffic.
Dessert was equally sublime. We both had soufflés, hers chocolate and mine raspberry. It took 30 minutes to prepare, but we were in no hurry. The only ruffle was when I asked for a list of Ports – I’m sure they had them but the waiter couldn’t understand what I was saying. So I settled for a Baileys.
By now I was way past full and drunk and all I wanted was to take a nap. A taxi was called and 10 minutes later I was passed out in the bedroom while the GF watched TV. At around 5:30 my cell phone rang waking me up – it was Carolina and she wanted to come over. The GF knows about Caro and said she needed to run home anyway. I told her I’d give her a call later that evening.
An hour later Caro showed up, looking as good as always. She wasted no time going over to the laptop and popping in a DVD. Can’t remember which one, but it wasn’t the new Shakira as she “borrowed” that one on the last trip.
We made small talk and then she picked up my camera and started posing. Who was I to say no? I’ll let the photos do the talking.

The shoot lasted about 30 minutes and by then I was all worked up. We know each other pretty well now and we gave each other a good workout. We showered up and I asked her if she wanted to grab a bite to eat. She said she needed to leave by 10pm, but how about ordering food in? I never did that before in Medellin - so I said sure. She got the phone book and asked if Chinese was ok. I told her to order for me and that I preferred Szechuan to Cantonese but my smart-aleck remark got lost in translation.
The food arrived really, really fast. And it was cheap – I think 16,000P. Unfortunately those were the only positives. Caro ordered the Colombian version of special fried rice – it just didn’t smell right and we just picked at it. I wasn’t really hungry anyway. And that gave Caro an excuse to open up the box of chocolates I brought her. I picked up a few boxes at Jacques Torres’ Chocolate Haven in NYC for my GFs family and other “friends”. I never met a girl who didn’t like chocolates and for my money JT’s are the best. And they held up in the brutal heat the day before the trip and well as the trip down. Impressive! http://www.mrchocolate.com Also, I gave AnaMaria (receptionist for the Torre Poblado) a box on this and my previous trip and all of a sudden, I’m no longer being charged the 30,000P overnight guest fee.
10pm rolled around and Caro headed out the door. She asked if she could stop by the same time on Friday – and who was I to say no?
So now I have a choice – call the GF or head out on the town? I called the GF – to let her know I was going out and would see her on Friday for lunch. Then I called Juan (driver with the Torre Poblado) who said he’d pick me up at 11pm.
I got dressed, watched a little TV and headed downstairs to head into the night.
First stop was La Isla. It’s an upscale strip club that I really like. I know there are some detractors, but I’ve always had good luck there and been well-treated. The place is up in the hills, and a little difficult to find if you don’t know where it is.
Juan and I walked into he place (there’s no cover charge) and sat down up away from the stage. The set-up is a little like a boxing set-up. The stage is in the center and there is seating at “ringside” and then up a couple levels. The place was pretty crowded.
I ordered a bottle of Aguardiente and kicked back. The waiter immediately told Juan it was 140,000 for 40 minutes on-site. If I was going to take anybody it would be back to my place. After scouring the place a couple of times, I finally set-upon a target – a blonde who was sitting next to two guys who bought her a drink, so I waited my turn. Actually the two guys were Greg from the Medellin Mansion and a very obvious American. I say obvious because while everyone in the place was neatly dressed, he was dressed in a Jordan Wizards home jersey, basketball shorts and unlaced high-tops. Hopefully not the beginning of a trend in MDE.
An hour later, Greg and MJ pay the check and she walks past us as the guys leave. She's standing by the service bar by the front entrance and I get up to talk to her and Juan says to relax he told her to come back. So I say to Juan what are you talking about? I'm sitting next to you - you didn't say anything to her. He says trust me - she'll be here in 5 minutes.
Well, I'm a real type A personality. When I want something, I lock and load and close the deal. It's all about closing the deal. People tell me I need to relax more, so I figure ok, if Juan says she'll be back in 5 minutes she'll be back in 5 minutes.
Then I see her walk from the service bar to the bathroom. Now I know Juan is mistaken - she's not coming over. I get up and walk down towards her, but a guy standing against the wall has motioned her over and the waiter is getting her a drink.
So I go back up to my seat and Juan says don’t worry she’s probably in the bathroom, she’ll be right over. Not mincing words I tell Juan he doesn’t know what the fuck he’s talking about – she’s with a guy not 100 feet away from us. He sees her and the guy, just as they pay the waiter and walk out the door together.
Needless to say, I’m pissed. I call the waiter over, settle up the check (57,000P) and walk out to the car without saying a word.
Juan starts stammering he doesn’t know what happened, she told him she would be right over, blah, blah, blah. I tell him in my best passive-aggressive demeanor that I’m the idiot for not following my instincts, not to worry about anything.
So it’s 12:30am, I’m a little tired, but I don’t want to go home alone. Then I get an idea: Mango’s.
Mango’s is an upscale disco packed with stunning girls and their dates. I’ve been there close to a dozen times over the past year, but always with my own “date”. Lots of drinking, lots of dancing and a good time being had by all.
I read on another website that some of the girls at Mangos are available. One guy said you could get models to go with you if you had the money. I read it would cost between 500,000 ($217) and 1,000,000 ($434) for the night. Very high by Colombian standards but some of these girls were really fit into the 10 category. You get what you pay for.
And Socrates69 told me Juan (yes, my Juan) told him that there were girls available at Mango’s. “Just ask any waiter/bartender and they’ll point them out.”
So I tell Juan, let’s go to Mango’s. I remind him about his conversation with Socrates and he says he also has a friend who works at Mango’s and he can help me find a model. We make a quick stop at a bank and I now have 2,000,000P on me – between that, Juan and my charming personality, this’ll be a slam-dunk.
We get to Mango’s just before 1am. Pay the cover (10,000 each) and make our way through the crowd. Tons of gorgeous women, and tons of guys as well. To me, it looks like every girl is with someone, but what do I know.
I sit down at the bar and Juan goes looking for his friend. I order a drink and tell the bartender discreetly that I’m looking for company this evening. He smiles and says that he can’t help me with that. Well, so much for “ask ANY bartender or waiter”. I have a couple of drinks and stop a waiter going by – and tell him that I’m looking for company. Again, no dice.
Juan comes over and says his friend isn’t working tonight. I tell him no problem – since he said ask any waiter or bartender for action, now’s his chance. He asks 3 different waiters and they all rebuff him.
To say I’m furious at this point is an understatement. That’s twice in one evening that I didn’t follow my instincts and got fucked because of it. Or actually wasn’t going to get fucked because of it.
See, the problem is - as incredible as these girls look, that’s probably as quickly as their boyfriends will kill you if you make the mistake of propositioning the wrong one. Mango’s IS NOT a casa. The girls don’t do a lineup. And in all my time there I’ve never seen any obvious “connecting” going on – and I was looking for it.
I've been saying all along that Mango's is a place to take a date - anyone who says otherwise is BSing or is very well-connected. Or maybe it's like nightclubs in Manhattan. If you go every night you know who’s got the ecstacy, who can get you into the VIP room, etc. But Juan was totally worthless in trying to hook me up.
So it’s back out to the car and I have Juan to take me to Face Dos. At this point I just want to cut my losses. Juan asks if he should wait outside with the car, but I don’t want to insult him, even though I know I won’t use him again after tonight.
So we go inside (5,000P cover) and sit down. The place has few customers, but a nice selection of girls. We order drinks and I see a blond that I like. I call her over and 5 minutes later I seal the deal with Paulina: 200,000 til 6am. They want 140,000 for the salida, even though they close in 90 minutes. I offer 70,000 and they come down to 100,000. Good enough.
We head over to the Torre Poblado and get to know each other on the couch. Suffice to say that while Paulina’s body wasn’t as great as her face, she was a great performer and really enjoyed playing with herself – a big turn-on for me).
So the night ended better than it started. In retrospect, it was a great day. I had great sessions with three different women, a great meal at the Four Seasons and the weather was spectacular. But you know how it is when you see something you want – and it’s in reach – but it gets away for no good reason. Though I’ll take a repeat of this day any day of the week.

Love those pics of Carolina! She's looking better and better, if that's possible.
Seems I also prefer having a GF and wanting to partake of STs. That's one of the great things about being in Colombia IMO. My head was spinning b/c of the bountiful supply of new non-pros and freelancers this trip, may try to work up a brief report as well to calm the nerves of returning home.
Also, I appreciate the heads up on Juan and Mangos. One of my pet peeves is when a guy talks up a storm and can't deliver. I suspected Mangos was a Bring-your-own date type of place. Still need to check this place out.
Sounds like you had a blast, I've been lucky to get out to Colombia fairly regularly this year, need to rack up those miles. Can't beat the free upgrades on COPA and no jetlag.

great report wall street i am finally getting a passport-will be ready to travel in october and novemeer can you recommend a guidein columbia and the best town and place to stay for someone who is totally new to this.

Wallstreet: Excellent reporting as always, and I love the brutal honesty. Too many guys leave the part out where they failed to score. But in Medellin you know you can score, you just have to be patient and go to the right place. I also went to mangos twice, and was totally blown away by the dancers. I told my friend I would pay $1,000 to screw the one dancer I had the hots for. My God I never saw a girl dance like this. I am actually glad to know you struck out there. Makes me feel better for not finding anything I could take home myself.
Jack...I stayed at the Mansion and highly recommend it, especially for a first time trip. The guys there are great and very helpful to newbies. And speaking spanish is a huge benefit to you in Medellin.

I'm liking the GF/on-the-side combo. You get your sure-thing, you get your variety and everybody's happy.
What disappointed me the most about the Mango's situation is I've been there so many times now and I knew there wasn't anyone to be had, but I let someone sway me from my instincts.
It's a place to bring a date. Period. Might there be a super hottie looking for some cash on some occassions? I'm sure there is. But to say all the waiters can point you to the action like there's a supermodel 'ho bullpen and they're waiting for a call from the dugout is utter fantasy. I can't believe I fell for that one. ESPECIALLY when there are SO MANY OTHER OPTIONS.
On my next trip no more Juan and probably no more Torre Poblado. I have the GF looking for a nice place in Poblado or Sabaneta (near the Oviedo Mall) that can be rented for 4-7 days at a clip. And I'll rent a car for the duration. I know the city well enough now and I like to drive. So we'll see how that works out.
Bottom-line though - I had an awesome time as usual. It gets better and better.
Larryc - I'll PM you with Caro's info
Jack - I really like MDE, though some people say Cartagena is best to visit first. But with your knowledge of Spanish, I think you can give MDE a try. And if you're looking for a place geared toward newbies, sounds like the Medellin Mansion is right up your alley. I know Radioman and he's a classy guy. If he gives the MM a thumb's up, it must me good.

Thanks for noticing the honesty. I'm not the only one on the board who reports the good with the bad, but I wish more guys did. And sometimes you catch shit for it. I had a few guys tell me that I was crazy and way overpaid for Carolina. The first time I got her was through an agency for 450,000 for the whole night - expensive, yes - but I feel I got my money's worth.
Then the agency went under, so I know deal with her directly and am getting her for 200,000 for the night - even better.
And the Mango's deal - it's a great place to take a girl as I've done many times. But it's not a place to score. File that under Latino Urban Legends.

Great report and photos. Thanks for sharing your experience. If one day was so interesting I wonder how the other day would have been. I know it takes a long time to write a good trip report but I would sure have enjoyed about your other days that you were there but did not write about. Carolina looks as great as always. Wonder if she has lost a pound or two.
Medellin is a very popular place on CH these days. I wonder if you had anything to do with it.

Wallstreet, I just got back from MDE.You are right, Mangos is not I repeat NOT a pick up joint. Any girl you pickup elsewhere would love to go to Mangos with you, but don't expect to pick anyone up there except maybe a midget;). A couple of the paisas I was with wanted to go to Mangos to dance, but I was on limited time, and its a jaunt from the Mansion. Face Dos was good, Los Isla gave me the willies even though there was some talent there. I'll be going back to MDE in October for another look.

great report wallstreet. i have a place in medellin near lleras and all is true. mangos is strictly byo. period. not a place to score. i to have a regular girl but like plenty on the side. really like carolines pics. can i get her info. great girl for a once and a while thing.
