Some R&R in Subic

Well after nearly killing myself on the non-stop barhopping in AC, I staked out a new honeyko fresh from Samar, and off we went with her “sister” to Subic Bay. We stayed at a nice beachfront Bungalow (by the Subic Airport) and basically lounged around all day. I recall in earlier trips getting out to Subic Often, but it was a real treat to return again to get some R&R (never thought I’d need R&R from mongering) and to recuperate from the lingering jetlag. It’s only about 2 hours away and it’s very pretty here. We wiled away the time on jetskis, snorkeling, barbecuing, hiking and tanning ourselves.

One thing to beware of is that the damned cockroaches in Subic are not the wussy-types you see in the States, they actually hiss and lunge at you, and bite like you wouldn’t believe.

"...they actually hiss and lunge at you, and bite like you wouldn’t believe."

Some people say that describes many American women. :-)

I hit exactly that same beach when I was there. Me thinks the ladies compare notes.

I did some work there for the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) in 96-97. Built their GPS system , 911 system and video. Bet you didn't know tha every area in the freeport zone and all down Magsayay and the side streets can be observed by the SBMA police.

Have you gone to Subic City. I used to hang out at Mangos and the Fox Hole. Are they still alive and kicking?

I'm not a zoologist or whatever insectologist, though I do watch the Discovery and National Geographic shows; I don't think that's a cockroach? It is some type of horned beetle?

Nice pix Merlin, hope you didn't squash it?

Snooky, wish I knew beforehand that the SBMA police were spying on our every act . We actually went through Subic City but didn't look around, as you know, there were lots of wildnerness type places to explore in that area. Hope to check it out next time.

Sfd, a monger, linugist and now entomologist? No worries, I didn't squish it, but did tease it to no end with various sticks and stuff, which it clamped on with ferocity. You may be right, it may be a beetle, but there quite a bit of them. Lots of bugs in that area, in fact, I got bit my some spider on my leg which caused a real painful boil.
