DMs Bar notes, Bangkok 11/2005

The following are my observations as I made the rounds quite a few times. Not included are massage and disco joints. For those not aware, the bar scene and talent changes about as often as I change my underwear (OK perhaps not, but you get the point). Also, I have my preferences as each of you-- I tell it like I see it, not vice versa.


Ranking scheme:
Variables= girls (double weighted), bar, atmosphere, and a "DM fun factor" invisible variable tossed in.

1- must stop/top talent, fun place
2- good, can find talent on most nights, one of the variables is lacking
3- fair, hit or miss lookers, two of the three variables is sorely lacking
4- not worth popping your head in

(ranking is relative to one another, not absolute and ).

Angel Witch-- GREAT assortment of girls (and I mean assortment) during prime time. Best ratio of spinners IMHO in Nana. Dave and staff very nice and helpful. If your here before 10PM, you usually get a good seat and the stage show is HOT. Only negative is that there can be a bit of drink pressure, but that goes with the territory and is easily ignored or waived off. Some real pros here, but there's also plenty of the FOBs types depending on your tastes. Dave serves up a decent cup of coffee as well . DMs ranking: 1

Carnival-- Soc chatted up a semi-cute girl here one night, but the rest of the place was inhabited by fugly girls (I use the term "girls" loosely). DM ranking: 3.5

Carousel-- used to be one of my favorite bars. WAS a real fun atmosphere, fun wait staff, and had several lookers. NOW the place was absolutely dead, and the dancers were well aged (I'm not looking for wine though). DM ranking: 3.3

G Spot-- I've got a school girl outfit fetish, so this is always a regular stop. I find the girls here more on the ST/slutty side, which is nice when I'm in the mood. I pulled a couple STs from here and was very pleased with the service. There do have a number of heffers and fuglies though on stage, but you should be able to find at least a 6 here most any time. They do have some cute wait staff and a couple lady-boys thrown into the mix. DMs ranking: 2.2

Hollywood2-- I stopped in here as my trip in March/April was winding down and found this bar to have the most promise. Really fun atmosphere and "serviceable" girl quality. With Dave's departure, I'm here to report any resemblance of the fun bar is LONG gone. If you pop your head in they are like hungry vultures now. DMs ranking: 4.

Mandarin-- Not bad to have a drink and flirt, but found nothing bar-finable on-stage (or off). Nothing new though, I haven't found anything in Mandarin in over a year. DMs ranking: 3


Playskool-- Ironmanx (look for the neck) is back managing and doing a great job imho. I didn't spend too much time chatting with him, but he's a fun guy with ambition in terms of the bar. Lend him your support as he tries to resurrect the bar from the depths of nonstop ACDC and fuglies. I found this a solid 2nd tier choice place to have fun in, although the line-up needs considerable work. DMs ranking: 2.75


Rainbow1-- has been and still is a very fun bar to hang in. There are many aggressive girls that will come on to you hard for drinks, etc, but be persistent and wave them off; you'll be rewarded. Mamasan is very nice and helpful-- buy her a drink while surveying the grounds. Many fine looking ladies here available, and most are VERY proficient in the art of fucking. DMs ranking 1.25

Rainbow2-- I've always been a sucker for some of the HOT spinners here! The talent seems to have died down a bit, but there's still a few hotties to be found. DMs ranking: 2

Rainbow3-- Dark, often filled with smoke, and stage usually packed with fuglies. I always poke my head in or stop for a drink as I walk by it so many times during the night, but I'm left looking for love elsewhere. DMs ranking 3.5

Rainbow4-- the MEGA bar. Some great talent here, but lots of fair to middlin talent on stage. I was able to find someone I deemed hot though on stage regardless of the night/time, which is not an easy task. I personally didn't like the layout and size though. Can be a real sausage fest and filled with smoke as well. DMs ranking 2.1



After Skool-- I love BJ bars and have been cuming here for some time. As usual, there is high pressure and can be suspect in terms of looks, but hey, I'm here to have a drink and pop a nut down a throat. I leave happy every time as I have a pretty good handle on who is up for the task. DMs ranking: 2.5

Baccara-- I know this ain't much of a stop, but I've always found some young and cute here to keep me interested. I love the view upstairs! DMs ranking: 2.2

Dollhouse-- popped my head in here on four separate occasions and dead all four times. Long gone are the days of old it seems. DMs ranking: 3.2

Long Gun-- A diminished talent pool now joins the shitty seating as the two adjectives that come to mind. DMs ranking: 3.4

Suzi Wong Bar-- Checked it out at Dave's request, but it was dead and what was there was sent out to the pasture long ago. DMs ranking: 4

Tilac-- so many positive comments of late about this bar (and some photos), I will chalk what I saw up to bad timing. I went in several times and had a drink, but there was nothing remotely interesting. As always, I will try, try again.. DMs ranking: 3.2

Soi Zero-- good food, borderline girls to be had. Not a bad place to kill a couple hours tho in the afternoon. DMs ranking: 3

Beer garden-- can quench your thirst here, but not much else. I've yet to see one hot girl from here and have never seen one girl that I've considered barfining. DMs rating: 3.75

Bus Stop-- shitty food, but a couple decent looking girls for flirting purposes. DMs ranking: 3.5

Eden Club-- this is one of the places that defined Bangkok for me as a newbie in terms of the overall experience. Unfortunately, it's been a couple years since I've seen anything that I would want to stick my dick in. Marc, can't you find some new talent??? DMs ranking 3.75

Lólita's-- As always, I made this a regular daily stop. However, I'm becoming more and more dissatisfied with the BJ quality. First the first time, I had a session where I didn't pop a nut! Damn! DMs ranking: 2.75

Melody UK-- only popped in once this last trip, which really wasn't enough to sample the talent, but it was on-par from trips past. DMs ranking: 3.3

Morning Night-- was here on a regular basis. Some "cute girls" and decent atmosphere to meet up with hombres. DMs ranking: 2.9

Long Gun deserves a better rating. It's the only place I saw in Bangkok that had all dancers totally naked on stage a couple nights ago. A couple looked reasonable in the dark.

Pattaya has spoiled me. I have no patience with the Nana bars. You could take your grandmother because the dancers are all covered up top and bottom.

Nudity doesn't figure in the scoring. FYI I prefer sexily clad ladies over nude.

This is a great summary of a good few BKK places and I would be very close in my rankings to yours. The only exception is the Beer Garden on Soi 7. This place is hit and miss for talent, but the beer is cheap, food good and if you go in often enough there are some very hot ladies to find. I have taken a few 9's in terms of looks and performance from there. In late November I went in twice and there were a few well worth taking.

During each trip I make several complete rounds in order to gauge any changes in the scene and, more importantly, scope out the hidden gems. I've never seen a hottie at BG, but perhaps its my timing-- I usually go for a beer mid afternoon, look around, see nothing, finish my beer, and move on my merry way. As with most small places, if you spend enough time there, one is almost always rewarded with a hidden gem--I'm sure BG no different.

You goin to be in LoS for the holidays?

You rank Angel Witch above Rainbow 1 and 2? Dave spike your drink with a super Cialis syrum or something. I havent been there recently but I always found AW a place to have drinks and watch the show but NOT a place to find a barfine. Things may have changed drastically in 6 months for talent but I doubt its changed that much.

Tis correct-- Definetly better than RB2 (in all regards) and as the scores indicate, beat out RB1 by a hair. I actually BF'ed from RB1 around 5* as many girls as much as AW, but that's more due the fact that I kept my AW girl nearly a week in total over the trip.

Both RB1 and AW make for my two favorite bars tho-- if I'm getting started late, perhaps I like RB1 a little more cuz AW is so packed!

I respect your choices a lot, but one thing we seem to diverge greatly on is our preferences of gogos in LoS. I've been scratching my head for the last year whenever I read about your bar opinions... and you are probably doing the same.

Don Marcos rankings, in my opinion, are not too far off. I would certainly rank Angelwitch ahead of Rainbow II. Not so much Rainbow I. The advantage that Angelwitch has over the Rainbow bars is, in a word, Dave. The man's a phenomenal host and, in my experience, a helluva human being. In terms of talent on the stage, I'd rank Rainbow I as number one. Angelwitch isn't too far below that standard. The only disagreement I'd have with DMs rankings is his slagging of Rainbow III, a venue which I've found quite pleasant. While I don't much care for the bar layout or atmosphere, Pretty Lady, which was not mentioned by DM, also has some top-notch eye-candy on stage. Apart from those two disagreements, I'd say that DMs assessment of Nana was spot on. As for Cowboy, I must admit that I am a Tilac fan. I agree that Long Gun is grossly over-rated. Yeah, they are butt-naked as of late. But if they don't have good bodies, who gives a rat's ass? I might also rank The Dollhouse slightly higher, but it is certainly a hit-or-miss venue (as are, frankly, most of the Cowboy bars). When Tilac and/or The Dollhouse are on, they are living proof that Soi Cowboy isn't dead, yet. When they are slow, it can be more than a bit depressing (The Dollhouse, in my opinion, moreso than Tilac).

Mano, as they say, horses for courses. I could of swung in either direction in terms of AW/RB1. As for Soi CB, I agree 100% that it is hit or miss--this last trip it was a miss...

ohh ya, I'll be sure to spend more time in Pretty Lady in a couple weeks-- thanks for the talent update!

Doug555, You'll find that DM's ratings are based upon how attractive the BG's are, and he has a discerning eye. Just because they are naked certainly doesn't make them any more attractive. Working in the bar business here I know that the most attractive BG's don't dance stark naked because they don't have to.

Your facts are very wrong about Nana Plaza as several NEP bars now feature either topless dancing or no panties under small skirts.

Mano & Wicked Willy, my ratings would be close to Don Marco's too. I agree with you Mano that Pretty Lady is very underestimated, this is a great little bar. I worked here for a year and it has always had attractive BG's. Unfortunately "hit or miss" sums Soi Cowboy up in one. Nana Plaza tends to be far more consistent, with BG talent that is in another league. The main bars in Nana Plaza are packing the customers in and this is real proof.

Blazers, I think you will be very surprised when you visit Nana Plaza next. You know how the LOS bar scene can change rapidly. A-W have taken on an excellent stock of new BG's, the shows are second to none and the place is capacity at peak hours. RB-1 & RB-4 have a very large stock of very attractive BG's, but as you know not much else to offer. I think you will be in shock!

Dave I was there in AW first week of November this year, you do not lie, a great selection and a good quantity ! If you remember my 2nd night I popped out to see an old girlfriend who was working at rainbow one during that evening ( ex GF experience from May 05, you introduced me to her !) as many reports say vast quantity of ladies in RB1, but on that night size to ratio of girls you definetly have the edge with " lookers who are hookers" ( I have copyright on that expression )

Name check to Blumpy, & Wedge,( Wedge, remember Hollywoods in Pattaya ? us and 4 girls, me with the 2 sisters and you with the Beaver babe and her friend who danced for 200 baht on the podium
( she had all the moves, a really sexy dancer and clean panties as you will recall, well it was a short mini skirt and that was a tall podium ! )
also the man I would like to be, the one and only Hunterman, cool, calm, collected and style ( its the ultimate trait) as we all said on that trip " we want to be him "

but I am formulating a contribution that is in opposition to cheap charlies who keep telling us what to spend and control market forces that would keep "buck for bang" "pound for pussy" "dollar for dick relief" " Shekel for shagging" etc to its "bare" minimum. as they say if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it ! now I am not foolish enought to think that ther should be a large increase across the board on ALL GIRLS, but a BMW will all ways cost more and be a much smoother ride than a VW ( no insult to all you beetle drivers)
and if it was all kept to a minimum wage standard the quality and girls numbers would be soon be affected in a negative way. Don't you see that its the dream of being a top earner that drives the girls to improve ( think with your penis not your wallet ) the girls earn more which does go on a better image ( like women all over the world) clothes, lingerie, hair, make-up
the visuals that make most of us guys more happy and turned on ! I remember a recent post from a guy who left AW with a sexy looking babe who turned heads all the way from leaving the bar, through NEP and all the way home, he was delighted with his night even before he had a mind blowing sexual experience, and many BGs from any bar in NEP was given a new standard of appearance " the bar was raised" this would not happen if every girl got an agreed 1500 baht LT or 2000 ST, I repeat I am not saying massive increases but to haggle and bitch like a
menustrating dyke over 500 baht, well you should stay at home and jerk off to a DVD.
Not every guy will be generous ( not in their nature ) but the guys who can afford it and will
give a bit more for a good experience are only improving market forces. And at the end off the day we all work hard for the money, so we can spend as much and how we wish as the mood takes us, but attempts to influence and curb any generous urges should be ignored, If you were on a night out with friends in a bar and after a few drinks a stranger told you that you should stop drinking as it was not good for you and you
had drank enough, you would obviously tell him in one of many styles that it was not his business how you enjoyed your evening and how you wished to spend your hard earned cash, its nobodys business ( unless life threatening ) how you choose to act, the same applies to the fun ladies of Bangkok.

I think you guys are confusing atmosphere, music and hospitality with availability of stunners. AW caters to Americans and RB1 and 2 cater to the Japanese. Most Americans feel uncomfortable in RB1 and 2 but to say that AW has more talent than RB1 and 2 is shocking. AW has always been known as a place to watch the shows, have a drink, chat with Dave and then go to other bars that have talent.....I cant see how AW can go from a middle tier Nana Bar to the best overnight...I just cant see it..not in 6 months

On a more serious note, I like certain types. I ain't looking for consenus of where "stunners" are, trying to get everyone/anyone to agree with me, or what constitutes a "stunner". I'm simply stating my preferences of bars and where I find gals that suit "my" preferences. That fact we like different bars does not "shock" me in the least, our tastes in girls is usually quite different.

Actually DM, our tastes in girls is almost identical...thats what surprises me about your opinion on AW...did Dave put something in your drink?

I was alluding to your liking of porn starlet types. You know I can be quite finnicky most of the time, there was at least 4 girls @ AW, I would of gladly test drove. However, bar preferences are more than just the # of lookers-- atmosphere and setting places a major role for me.

You are an army of one here in your insistence that RB II has better looking pooying than AW. The not so surprising thing is that everyone you are disagreeing with has been there since you were there last . Does that give you a clue ?

I also totally agree that AW was far better than RB II this last trip and in fact RB II was inferior to RB I and RB IV as well. RB II was still filled with Tokyo refugees but the girls had taken a nosedive in terms of quality . I could not believe how far the talent level had fallen.

As for the continuing diatribe about small bars or venues coughing up a cutie once and a while-- remember DM when we went into that hole --Hollywood Rock -- just to check it out ?? Mostly a sty filled with swine but there were a couple of not too bad lookers and one muy hot cutie that I still regret not going back for.

That being said -
You can uncover gems in the strangest places , but if you are out looking for diamonds you're better off in a jewelry store than a 7-11 on most nights.

So KM, you are in agreement that AW had the best talent in Nana...I doubt that.

Interesting you bring up Hollywood Rock, which I, too, always thought was a dive. My last two visits, however, revealed a couple of extremely attractive ladies plying their trade therein. You have better odds, in my opinion, of finding a hot woman at Rainbow I than in any other NaNa bar...and I'm talking about the current lineups. That being said, there are often some extremely attractive women at unlikely venues such as Hollywood Rock, Playskool and Mercury. No, you'll probably never find anyone in Red Lips or DC 10 that you'd ever want to stick it into, but not all of the smaller bars should be so easily dismissed.

As to Rainbow II, the quality has taken a noticeable nose-dive since I moved here, 10 months ago. I never had a great time in RBII, based on the Japanese-centric (let's pretend that's a word, shall we?) nature of the place. But, I'd generally stop in because, when I moved here, they had by a wide margin the hottest lineup of any gogo in Bangkok. That is no longer the case. It hasn't been the case for a good 4 or more months. I don't know where the really hot chicks went, but, in general, they've vacated RB II. Understand that I have nothing against the Rainbow Bars (I love Rainbow I and am,apparently, one of the few fans of Rainbow III on this board). I'm not a Dave the Rave sycophant, either. Yeah, I like the guy. But, over the last 4 months, I sincerely think that RBI is the champ in terms of lookers. Angel Witch, though, does sport a very nice current lineup. On the looks of the talent alone (setting aside the shows and Dave) it certainly deserves to be in the top 4 of the NaNa bars. Exactly where it falls in that ranking is going to depend on a punter's individual tastes. Really there are only two bad things you can say about the place: It gets too crowded (a problem that is a helluva nice one to have, if you earn your living slinging booze) and the hottest girls tend to rapidly get sucked into the shows, making it a little difficult to barfine them. All in all, precious little to criticize about the place, particularly since they put in the new bathrooms, which were a massive improvement.

i was there at the same time DM was and i still get confused over what bar is what. sorry. I saw cuties everywhere, but the best talent might have been at one of the rainbow gogos, the one next to g-spot.

ANGELWITCH'S RISE & HOLLYWOOD'S DEMISE! A friend reminded me the other night that when I joined Angelwitch in May it was about the worst set of BG's he had ever seen in A-W. June until September were shockingly bad months and this was when Blazers was here. A-W had a BG recruitment drive, plus they created many new shows, which introduced attractive new show starlets. A-W has improved like a rocket taking off and the Hollywood's have gone down like the Titanic! The Hollywood VS Angelwitch evidence is for all to see and I rest my case!

RAINBOW REVIEW - RB-4 made a sensational impact upon the Nana Plaza go-go scene when it opened as the bar with the most talent in Asia. At this time RB-2 was closed for renovations which is an important factor that was forgotten by some guys. Now all four RB bars are open it is a different picture. Every guy I talk to says that RB-2 has dropped in talent standard, and RB-4 has dropped off a bit too. RB-1 has improved its stock of attractive BG's and so has A-W. Put this into the mix and definate changes have occured. Personally I think it's difficult to label one bar "The Best" because I feel different attributes need to be categorized accordingly. IMO those who think a certain bar is the best has never been closer. A-W was voted "Best Go-Go Bar In BKK" for the past three years, but now it's a close call between RB-1, RB-4 and A-W.

You seem to have a comprehension problem. My post did not say AW had the best lineup in NEP- just better than RB II -- and by a far margin. I'm sure that when you were last there RB II was still a hot bar. The testimony of everyone who has been there since your last visit should indicate to you that something has definitely changed, or perhaps you ARE the only person that knows what a hot girl looks like. Gotta be one or the other chai mai.

I would place RB I, RB IV ,AW ,and even G Spot above RB II as of October . That would be about my order of Hottie presence as well.

Unless you are very lucky you do have to invest more time in the BG. when I am on my own I often have lunch there and also meet up with some girls who go there regularly for a chat. As a result I can spend a couple of hours there and get more chance of seeing the better candidates.

Unfortunately, I will not be in LOS for the holidays, earliest next date for me is February.

You have good eyes for sure, except that Bangkok and many other girly venues are never static.

Things change rapidly and you may find that by the time you get to LOS (Bkk) next, you were right!

However, it would not be wrong for all these guys to be right for the times there were there and you were not.

That's why we all enjoy the superb variety in Bkk and the "new blood" coming onstream every now and then.

Just, when you think you've lost a whole flock of "superb girls" somewhere, a new bunch of "stars" are discovered in what was last a dump!

Well said Crazier, my previous comments reflect what you are saying. You just have to look at what happened to the Hollywood's and see the "shooting stars" namely RB-1, RB-4 & A-W. You guys should know only too well what happens when a top Mamasan leaves one place and joins another. I'm surprised some veteran mongers aren't more aware of reading the situation.

As for the Rainbow Group's situation, there are only so many go-go BG's to go around all the bars. RB-2 now faces major competition from within its own group, especially RB-1 and RB-4. Khun Ming (RB-2 + RB-4 Boss) pays his dancers 10,000 baht salaries, plus attractive bonuses, so it is a bit surprising why RB-2 has had a drop in talent.
