In my introductory note I mentioned some of the hostess bars. I will now comment on some of the free lancer spots.

Walkabout: it would appear as if this is really the epicenter of the chick flow in PP although an argument can be made for the sites to be mentioned later.

Location: around the corner from Flamingo hotel (more on it later), a block or so from Heart of Darkness, Butterfly Bar and Shangai Bar.

When to be there: pretty dead during the day and afternoon but you can always find 2-3 chicks floating around at all times. Nothing too sweet but on occassion some doables. Starts picking up around 6, is quite doable by 8 and pumping by 9-10pm. Around 10-11 there is a flux between WA and Sharkey's as well as Martini's. After 2am this and the Heart of Darkness seem to be the places where girls getting off work from hostess bars and other jobs come over to check and see about getting some "help". My buddy and I hanged there at 2am a couple of times waiting for the late shift....not too bad actually.

The girls: quite a variety. I think mostly Khmer but some Viets as well. English spoken sometimes passable sometimes non existent. The range of beuty can go from 3 to 8 (I think that is fair but I can be harsh, I can also focus more on cute rather than hot). I will say mostly 6-7, again this is a package as a whole, if you were to go just by face or body than you can bump up the rating a notch or two. I think that thai women are in general more pretty but I think you can probably find more sweet bods (butts in asian chicks!) in Khmerland. I am no expert (yet) this is just an observation from my limited experience but I will conduct further research later this year.

The dynamics: it can get tough to navigate here as the girls are very familiar with each other. If you are doing just short times ($10, a couple of hours) or 1 LT ($20) then you are probably OK...if you see them more then once they may start thinking you are their bf and things can get nasty in a hurry. I have never seen (mmm..wait maybe mexican girls come close) a nastier/mean look from a woman than from a Khmer girl. I do not know if I was too nice, dressed too well or are still young enough but I had a lot of trouble w chicks being to sticky at times.

R&R: drinks bet $1-2.50, no lady drinks. Two pool tables. Many expats and tourists here can meet some good guys here to shoot the shit and get info.

Extras: some of the motodops from the WA (parked directly across) are quite knowledgeable re the 'hidden' spots in PP. They can also offer sketchy stuff...say no. They have a guest house but I would not stay there...way too noise and too much chick friction. And there is suppossed to be a couple of ST rooms, did not check.

Thanks for the write up, great update. Walkabout seems to get pretty good comments these days, but a few years ago, it was 2ndary to Martinis and Sharkeys. I recall Walkabout was not as big as Martinis and Sharkeys. Interestingly, there were usually more Khmer freelancers and the few Viet freelancers were given a hard time by the Khmers. Most of the mamasan houses were Viet gals though.

Walkabout is smaller than Martinis and Sharkey, specially because the second floor does not get used all that much (2 pool tables, bar and balcony there however). I think is acting as an epicenter with a lot of flux from the different places in PP.
You can be asleep there and you will bump into a hottie or at least something on Concarne's decent scale w/o problem (eves only).

Martinis PP (has counterpart in SR, write up later):

The FL disco, small dance floor, very dark so hard to see the chicks. Music OK in the disco.

Location: every Motodop in town knows it, down a short ways in a sketchy alley so do not get freaked out initially. One thing that blows is that is sort of on its own unlike many of the other places I mention...but it really is not that far in moto.

When to be there: after 11.

The chicks: Good numbers of Khmer and Viets w the Viets outnumbering the Khmers. Some good lookers here specially among the viets, the girls travel in packs (more true for the best looking ones) so do not be a wuz and just go for it and start talking to them (or at least using some kind of sign language). ST 10, LT 20...NO MORE and in fact you could probably get it for less at least the LT. Will try next time.

The dynamics: the Khmers are on their own but w the Viets sometimes you may have to deal w a Mamasan. I am unsure as to why it is so but it maybe due to the almost non-existent english among viets (not that the khmers are a lot better). But just because you dealt with the mamasan do not expect that you will get satisfaction if things do not work out well. I will elaborate in my "experiences" section. It is better to be here early than late as the best chicks are snagged quickly.

R&R: Drinks $1-3, no lady drinks. The foods from the stands are actually decent. 1 pool table. Two bars (inside, outside). Not a good place to make contacts or shoot the shit but possible.

Extras: I do like the outside area to check out the talent, it could use a bit more light. The inside of the disco blows to check out talent as it is way too dark. Be prepared to be ripped off (relative) by the taxi/motodops outside...they know you do not have many choices.

If I have to do it all over again (I will in my next trip!!!) I would just hire a tuk tuk or moto for the eve for $4 for bar hopping purposes.

merlin, I personally find walkabout a bore and Martini's much better stocked and a more stimulating environment. In second place I would put Sharky's.

What I noticed is that many of the Viet gals are probably the mamasan house girls that are chaperoned by an older gal or mamasan. The houses keep close tabs on these "cash cows". Plus, the newer Viet gals don't speak Khmer and there is the concern that the Khmers, who have a strong dislike for the Vietnamese, will give the gals a hard time.

Pics are coming...but be warned that they are only a few a mostly w covering. I do not know what it is but I just have to work at getting over that hurdle of insisting on nudes...it is a block...must be my catholic upbringing. I promise there will be plenty on the next trip.

Sharkeys PP:

Big bar, good american rock music, very dark so hard to see the chicks.

WARNING: this applies to all venues...STAY AWAY from any chick that comes running to you ASAP or the blurts w/in the first 10 minutes "I want to go home w u" or "I want to boom boom w u" chances are she is a yaba user (meth)or she has some kind of physical defect...long story details later. Also if you ever notice slashing marks in their arms that is a way in which they do yaba...they bleed and let the yaba soak thru the blood...this due to the lack of needles I am told.

R&R: Drinks $1-3, no lady drinks. The foods is OK bar food. 3 or so pool tables, darts. 1 big bar. Good place to make contacts or shoot the shit possibly better than WA for that but that would depend on where you are staying, the temperature, humidity....is a toss up.

I agree with Don Marco, Martini's has always had the best selection of girls overall in all my trips. Come to think of it, I think I've only taken out freelancers from there...

Funny, but I remember Sharky's being well lit. I took a couple girls out of here, one a very good-looking Khmer whose performance was severely lacking....the other a Viet who was represented by her mamasan in the bar....her bj skills were up to legendary Viet level...I liked the bar's atmosphere, but didnt have great luck with finding great girls there. I'm sure the lineup changes over time....I never had any problem with lighting to see who I wanted, but if you see a looker you had better move REAL fast.

The lighting was just fine when I was there as well... C-- you musta been puffing on some ganja that night.

I never have had much luck at Sharkeys - very aggressive average looking Viet girls in my opinion. Can normally find a decent looking Khemer girl at the Walkabout which is always the most fun for me travelling alone - every trip I meet up with someone new there to hang with, usually another long term Thailand expat having a weekend R&R somewhere different like me. I'm with Don Marco on Martinis - always the best selection of girls but the beer garden is doesn't have any atmosphere and the setup makes it unlikely you will meet a travel buddy there.
