PP:
California2: stayed here for 2 days. $20. Right in front of the River. Is doable to stay there is just not all that great. Not a fancy place. My room was big enough and clean but the furniture was falling apart and the towels and sheets were kind of worn. It was also fairly noisy due to some engine or whatever close by. Owners encourage a couple of girls to hang out by the bar/coffee area (1 cute one that I should have sampled).
I would not stay there again for that price (10-12 would work). The original appeal was that suppossedly the owner knows his shit about PP but I never saw him.
Last Home Guesthouse: $8-12 depending on room (AC vs Fan, etc). Good size room and bathroom, very clean. Some very good food made in premises. Recommended to me by american expat. Not too easy to find: if you go directly behind the California2, find the entrance to the temple, walk thru temple, as you come to the other side keep going straight, cross the street, keep going and half a block on your R side. Not a fancy place, more homey than anything else. Ideal if staying long term or on a budget. I would stay there again.
Flamingos: 20/day. Brand new hotel, great staff, awesome cup of coffee, rooms on the smaller side but very clean and everything new and working order. 2 pool tables, 2 bars, rooftop area for parties (bbq every weekend?) next time I may see if I can reserve for a party. The chicks very much liked this place. Not a 5 star by any means but all is relative and considering where most of them live it probably feels like a 5 star to them. It also has a very central location, w/in a stones throw of WA, Shangai, Butterfly, H of D. Rumors of a change of ownership and possibly letting go of western admin are of concern due to possible quality decline but let's hope for the best. I will definetely stay there again providing I am not in a budget.
Siem Riep:
Mandalay Inn: 10-12/day, nice big rooms, small bathroom, very clean, the owner is a Malaysian who is an excellent cook. He is very attentive and makes sure you are taken care off promptly by the friendly staff. Close to the central market as well as the touristy/western restaurant and bar area. Would stay there again if on a budget.
The Golden Orange Hotel: 20/day, long term stay discount may be possible. Brand new hotel, good size rooms, helpful friendly staff. Next to massage 42 in case you want to sample (comments on this place later). Pool table, bar. What makes this place the choice for me is that the owner is a traveller in our mold. He is very knowlegeable of the SR scene and if he likes you he will point you in the right direction....and oh yes he does not were one should go (more on that later). The only reason I would not stay here again is if I am short on funds.

BTW, prior to my trip I got a lot of emails from potential hotels re how I had to book early, that it was the busy season, etc. While that may be true re the specific hotel (C2 and Flamingo appear to be well known to the mongering crowd) you will NOT have any problem finding lodgings in SR or PP in the middle of the busy season.

I have stayed at Flamingos every trip I have done to Cambo. Tip is to get a superior room - full bath which the girls like instead of just a shower. Just $5 more at $30/night. And carpet on the floor instead of tiles which stops the bed going for a skate when you are in the middle of noctural pursuits (so to speak). Staff are super friendly. The hotel's tuk-tuk will take you mongering for an evening - $10 for the night - makes it easy and the drivers have a really good knowledge of the mongering scene. Right in the middle of the action as Concarne says. I highly recommend this hotel.
