I tried many times to compose a report for my most recent trip to Bangkok. But the words just wouldn’t come out. Maybe it’s because at the moment I have no interest in drafting narratives about single trips. Or it could be that because I posted numerous updates in discus while on the ground, I feel I have little left to add. Whatever the reason, I won’t be writing a standard report. Instead, this may be a series of musings, thoughts, and sketches.

There is something about Bangkok that I did not discuss in those updates I was posting while on the road. This is mostly because it became evident to me over the course of time, especially in my last two weeks there. The fact is, compared to my previous trips, I had a mediocre time in Bangkok. Honestly, I wasn’t surprised about this happening. I’ve seen it coming for a few years, and sadly, it came about this trip. The causal factor of my sadness is, in my opinion, the massive decline in the gogo bar scene, which has in turn altered my perspective about Bangkok’s mongering offerings. Things have changed in ways I’m not happy about. There has definitely been a change in the weather.


Like I said, it’s been going on for a few years now. Personally, I date it back to 2003. But the process seems complete. Nana has slid over the edge, and Soi Cowboy tagged along. Nana had always been a staple in my mongering diet. I’ve had many a pleasant lass out of there over time, and numerous fond memories. Unfortunately, few of either can be counted from this trip.

At one time, prices were reasonable in the plaza. 1000 ST and 2000 LT. No more. Those prices have doubled or tripled in the span of three years.

At one time, large numbers of girls wanted to stay with you all night. They loved to go to the movies, or to dinner. No more. Finding one of those girls is not only an exception, but a stroke of luck.

At one time, most girls had pretty good attitudes, and provided that intangible, ephemeral service known as “GFE.” No more. You certainly get “attitude”, but not the kind I want. And GFE seems to have dissipated with the wind. You don’t get the passion you used to get.

In a nutshell, prices have skyrocketed while service has simultaneously plummeted. A large number of Nana girls have transformed into rush artists, eager to finish the session as soon as possible so that they can rush back to the bar and bag another customer. Some bars in Nana are even incenting this behavior by paying girls who got barfined a fee if they return to work before midnight.

I learned about this incentive payment from a hot little spinner who hailed from Chaiyaphum. I got her out of Rainbow I, and my session with her serves as the epitome of what I don’t like about Nana these days, not to mention that our session was the trip’s mongering nadir. The sex was bad, bordering on starfish. As soon as I popped, she bolted for the bathroom, showered in nothing flat, and emerged fully dressed, all in about the time it took me to remove the condom and throw it in the trash. She told me she needed to get back to the bar, as they would give her 200 baht if she returned to work before midnight. To top it off, she counted the money I stuffed in her purse, and couldn’t believe that I “only” gave her 1500 baht. She claimed everyone got “at least” 2000 baht, many usually more than that. And then she proceeded to throw a fit.

I bluntly told her she didn’t do anything to deserve that kind of money, but I could see she wasn’t going to let up. So I gave her another 500 baht and told her to get the fuck out, which she did. I never returned to Rainbow I after that.

Unfortunately, she didn’t turn out to be an exception. I barfined 9 girls out of Nana on the trip, and had problems of some sort or another with 6 of them. I only managed to do long time with 2 of them. The other seven “didn’t do long-time” (at least they were honest), had class “early in the morning”, or needed to “meet their sister.” Really, they were coming up with some great stuff.

It was the ninth girl that pushed me over the edge. After her, I stopped going to Nana, and avoided the place entirely the last 4 days of my trip. I didn’t want to get near a Nana girl, aside from the gem who I repeated with three times on the trip.

I’m well aware that what I experienced in the past was always an illusion; but illusion was what I was there for, and now it’s gone. I can get the reality of short turn-around fucks anywhere. That’s not what I came to Thailand for. Now that much of Bangkok has become the assembly line you find so many other places, I need to rethink my mongering worldview.

Does that mean I’ll never go back? Of course not. I love Bangkok. It’s a great city that offers a full slate of hedonistic offerings, ranging from great food and tasty little treats to fantastic massage services. Thankfully the mongering scene there is quite diverse. I will spend much more time exploring alternative venues/areas on future trips, as I wound up doing on this one. I’ll even step inside the gogos, albeit with drastically reduced expectations. However, the time I spend in a Bangkok gogo will most likely be a fraction of what it used to be.

I will also spend less time in Bangkok. I think it’s time I ventured down to Pattaya again. And of course, Jakarta is now on my map. Jakarta would have stolen time away from Thailand even if Bangkok was still the same as the old days. Given the events that have transpired, Jakarta will see even more of me.

Such is the opening salvo in my inchoate essay cum report. Feel free to chime in.

I have noticed a similar trend over the course of my last two trips to Bangkok. I no longer get very excited about going there although it still is much better than the U.S. (then again, isn't just about anywhere?)

It sounds like Jakarta is becoming the SEA mongering destination of choice. I haven't visited there yet owing to concerns about personal safety. Murasaki, you may have already done so in another post, but could you share your thoughts on that issue?

Also Murasaki, while Brazil is not cheap (particularly with the increase in the Real's strength), you may want to give it a try one of these days. I hope I don't have to eat these words later, but one thing you can count on in Brazil is great attitudes and a high level of performance from the girls (of course, with some exceptions). IMHO, it is not a good place to go for long-time (although that is not to say it is unavailable) but for performance and variety it is great. OTOH, Rio is quite dangerous and I suspect some who read this will comment that is it moreso than Jakarta. But in addition to Rio, and if you have time, there are many other places in Brazil to visit, some of which (probably the majority of which) are much safer than Rio.

I concur on all points. While my percentage of "issues" was certainly not as high as yours, bkk has priced itself out of the market as far as quality and bang for the buck IMHO.

I view it as a hub and resting stop.

Have not been back to LOS and BKK for over a year and a half now, and I was quite curious what your impressions would be this trip. It looks like we're on the same page re: NANA and Jakarta. I also noticed a decline in service starting a couple of years ago.

Interesting thoughts indeed. I still love Bangkok and it will remain my primary mongering venue I'm sure. I do agree that a bigger percentage of the girls are trying for short time and are expecting a bigger payoff when they leave, whether that's right after you pop or in the morning. That's why unless I want only ST I make sure while getting to know the girl that I determine if she is eager to go with ME - or just the next guy who will pay her. You can usually tell which girls are really into you and which ones are bahtwhores. I have had much less of a problem than you relate probably because of the ability to speak Thai. It certainly allows you to get to know the girl much better and I beleve makes her more comfortable about spending a longer time with you. It used to be an advantage but now it seems like having Thai language skills is becoming much more important in acheiving the "GFE" we are all seeking.

Too bad really and I believe is directly attributable to the Tokyo effect and the rule of 3's.

In light of the fact that many of the go-go girls are expecting 500 or more that what you expected to pay short time, would you recommend other newbie Hombres to negociate price prior to pulling a Nana girl to avoid a similar situation that was experienced with the Rainbow 1 girl?

LAG: While Jakarta has a reputation for being unsafe, I never witnessed anything remotely dangerous or threatening in my nine days there. This is isn't to say that one shouldn't take the ordinary cautions (i.e. don't walk down dark alleys alone at night in an inebriated state); but I think Jakarta is mostly fine. You mention something I forgot to address. WHY has the gogo scene changed so much? I agree with your conclusion. It is due to the Tokyo effect and the rule of 3's. Their arrival in the Plaza completely distorted the cost structure and altered the girl's expectations. From a rational economic standpoint, I understand the shift in the girl's behavior. However, from a mongering/consumer standpoint, that doesn't mean I would be happy about such a shift.

Since my namesake brethren have decided to abandon Soi Thaniya and migrate en masse to the Plaza and the Cowboy, bringing with them their inability to bargain, predilection for quick sessions, and tolerance for high prices, I guess it is time I migrated elsewhere as well.

Boy that's a good question Solid. In my earlier mongering days in Thailand, I always negotiated price in the bar prior to leaving. However, over time, I shifted to the Khun Mor system of just stuffing the going rate in their purse or hands. The girls used to never count it or ask how much I gave them.

However, on this trip, I had numerous gogo girls either ask me how much I gave them, or take the money out and count it in front of me. In light of this, I would have to say that it would behoove a newbie to simply ask in the bar and then negotiate there if the initial quote was high.

Despite all my complaints, looks certainly isn't one of them. There are a lot of beautiful women working in the plaza. I barfined several cuties, though many of these photos don't do them justice.

I had hopes of getting some higher quality shots this time, given that I had a more powerful camera. However, due to a disastrous leap from my backpack earlier in the trip, my external flash was out of service, leaving me only with the crappy built-in flash.

In Pty you can still get the gfe and movies/eating thingy, i've always got it when i wanted. BKK is indeed a hub and resting place. I mostly go there for soapies, stop at Lólita's, and some tourist stuff. Apart from that Pattaya is loads more fun, and Chiang Mai has some interesting spots. There is a lot more to LoS than BKK, and a lot that I still don't know about (I am trying to get time to visit Korat some day).

Aon is a good example of the trajectory Nana girls take (and I dont blame them for it one bit).
I barfined her last year around this time, when she was still new to the scene...mamasan was still fairly protective of her, and it seemed like she did not go with customers frequently, or only if she liked them (she kind of picked me--she was only a waitress at the time).

I had met Blumpy and Buckeye at Angelwitch two nights before, and they’re both great to hang out with.

One result of my gradual loss of interest in the gogo scene was the fact that I began to spend more time and energy at other mongering venues. I spent more time at the massage parlors this time around. I took my first ever girls at Hi-Class and Emmanuelle, and made my first visits to Bangkok Cozy, Tulip, and Angel 22.

My incentive was simple. If the gogo girls were simply going to be short time rush artists, I may as well go to a venue where at least my short time will be a guaranteed 90 minutes or 2 hours, most likely the service will be better, and the cost will be cheaper. And this is precisely what happened. Out of 9 sessions in the massage parlors, only one was bad. The rest ranged from good to out-of-this-world fuck me like a pornstar sex.

The cream of the crop was Tulip. I had four sessions there, all of which rocked. Three of them were with Or. I’ve written enough about her in the Tulip thread, so I’ll say no more. I have a few photos of her, but I can’t post them per her request. Overall, Tulip consistently provided the best sex I had in Bangkok.

Another pleasant newcomer to my personal mongering scene was Bangkok Cozy. I made two visits there, the second wih Mano Poderosa in tow. Both times I had girls who provided solid service and had great attitudes. There were also some stunning women available when I checked out the fishbowl before leaving after my second session. I certainly look forward to visiting them again. Their prices were quite reasonable, there were no scams or farang surcharges, and no hassle from the papasans. A big thumb’s up here. What do you think is the root cause of this 'change in the weather?' Is it because the place got too popular with too many westerners? high exposure via the internet? Thai ruk thai politics?

One thing I like about Thailand is that it is the country of possibilities. I mean you just never know where you’re going to meet a woman who eventually winds up sleeping with you. I took on two long-term projects over my four week stay in the land of smiles, and I’m happy to say that I succeeded in “bagging” both of them.

My first project was one of the masseuses at the Thai massage joint I visited on a regular basis. She wasn’t a beauty, but reasonably attractive. However, there was a sexual chemistry between us that definitely had me intrigued enough to pursue her.

She was pretty skittish at first, so I took things slow. It was my third Thai massage session with her that I got her to play with the little redwood downstairs. The next session after was a HJTC. We’d kiss, both Thai and French style, during our sessions. Her aunt worked at the same joint, and would tell me in our massage sessions that her niece had the hots for me. I thought the target was now primed.

So I asked her how she felt about scheduling a massage session in my hotel room, and flat out told her that I wanted to make love with her. She agreed. So we went downstairs, and I made a reservation with the owner, and confirmed the price for hotel visits. It was scheduled for the next day.

Damn it came off well. She showed up at my room on time, nervous but happy. I noticed an attractive spinner standing a few feet away from me, clutching some English conversation books. That was my in.
I started chatting with her, and between Siam station and Nana station, I had gotten her number. I wasted no time in commencing with a texting relationship. We met up a few days later in the afternoon for a smoothie and talked some more. I told her that the next time I wanted to take her out for the night. We proceeded to have a series of scheduling conflicts and missed opportunities for the next three weeks. But my persistence paid off in the end. My last night in Bangkok, I took her out to Cabbages and Condoms for dinner, which she really enjoyed.

Then it was back to the hotel where we made out, showered, and proceeded to have a great session. Another tight box. In fact, as I was slowly moving in and out, I said to her “You haven’t had it in a while, have you?” A no was moaned in response. Damn good stuff it was. I had an early morning flight, and she had to be somewhere early as well, so we kept it short time. I gave her 1500 baht as a token of my appreciation. Again, I had a smile on my face. All thanks to the Skytrain….

The tokyo express. that's true, there are alot of japanese going to thailand, but for some reason i don't see too many in nana (and other places i frequent like the beer bars in pattaya or bj bars,...), where the girls seem to have attitude. perhaps, i wasn't paying proper attention to the customers, but rather to the girls that were dancing on stage! Plus, dm was the one who gave me the tour and he's one fast mover!

More than a little distressing is that the Japanese are increasingly showing up in Pattaya. Perhaps the last bastion of Western fun left relatively unscathed. Last trip I even saw way too many groups of 4-5 Japanese men walking up and down Soi 6 !! WTF is going to be left of the scene in Thailand after the hordes of overspending underfucking Japanese have totally overtaken the playground .

I rue the day they left the safety of their silly member bars on Thaniya and ventured out to see the real Thailand . You never saw a Japanese dude outside of Thaniya ,even on Patpong back in the day.

Retired, I've only been to Patpong three times, and only barfined out of two bars: Pink Panther and Safari. I liked Pink Panther quite a bit. KM is the Patpong expert here, so maybe he can list a few more.

I believe you and was assured that there are plenty of japaneses there by two CH vets i had dinner with tonight. My scene in bkk is the beer garden, discos, bj bars, and freelancers on sukumvit, and the occassional low budget soapy, not nep/cowboy. Dm was the first guy to give me a real tour. before that i would walk into a few, but never really clicked with that scene. i like it now, except for the price of course. Also, i guess we hung out at the bars that weren't so japanese oriented like the rainbow series with the exception of the rainbow on the 2nd floor, to the back right hand side when you enter nep.

IMHO it is a combination of japs and weak kneed westerners. I know MANY (at least 10*) more girls on the payroll of an aussie and/or brit than all other nationalities combined.

As Soc mentioned, I try to avoid Jap centric hangouts (ST + $$$) and opt for quick recon rounds and then hone in one specific girls while in NEP. More and more tho, I'm finding girls on the bankroll. It doesn't necessarily hurt the performance or session-- u just need to be privy to it.

Patpong is long dead although it can be a fun place to make a quick run and there are a few diamonds in the rough there...

Soi Cowboy seemed like it was on a rebound during the holiday season, but then again it could be just that Nana sucked so bad AT THAT TIME (think my payroll comments).

I'm hard on BKK, but truth-be-told, when it's on, it's ON. In my experiences though, it's ON only around 25% of the time, which makes it a hard sell considering the $$$. However, it is one of a few places that I can think of that has great hotels, very good food, very nice looking ladies, AND is western orientated (i.e. easy to monger). For one reason or another, I'm gravitating to the locales much less touristy/western orientated and find it MUCH more enjoyable and economical (DOH).


Re: KM/Porker. Both of you are correct-- KM has a unique combination of $$$, mongering style, and language ability which makes BKK and ideal fit for him. Yes, he spends $$$$, but that is only part of te equation. KM, like I, repeats a lot in BKK and hones in specific girls when there is good chemistry. I can also attest KM doesn't buy any more drinks in the PM in gogos than most of us here. Daytime is another matter entirely tho ;)

Your post has convinced me that there is no time like the present to go to one of the worldwide mongering destinations.

I was trying not to go until the second half of the year. This was due in part to my current responsibilities, but I feel that the world is an ever changing place. One of these locations is bound to change sooner or later, especially with the rapid fluctations in the world economy and inflation.

Maybe this is a good time where I can plug Angeles City. Since Angeles City is far from the beach and there is absolutely no redeeming quality about the place whatsoever, you dont have tourists or families streaming about.

Its certainly a weird feeling when you are bringing back your woman in one arm and then some European or American family (with kids) is staring at you down the way.

Patpong still has some attractions. Sadly Safari Bar is a shell of it's former self. A waste of time now. The King Group Bars are worth checking out - avoid King III and King's Corner unless your into non genetic females.King I and II are good, Camelot Castle can be good. Club Electric Blue on Patpong 2 has gotten much better and has a decent line up now.
The upstairs bars are generally rip off joints and of no interest.

Patpong's go gos are very different from NEP and certainly Cowboy. A bit more high pressure and frenetic. You either love it or hate it .

Patpong 2 has several lounge type bars that are great for kicking back and they have some lovely gems to be unearthed .

It's certainly worth a visit for nothing else than to have been at the original nasty boy paradise.

Just got back from my first trip to thailand 2 weeks ago (trip report on the way..)
Definitely YMMV in Bangkok, especially with the Go go girls..Freelancers are nice cuz u avoid the hefty barfine.. I really liked Pattaya cuz it was cheaper and the girls seemed sweeter..(especially the Laotian or part laotian/thai bar girls..)

John, I never said that girl was the first one. No, I didn't "go back 8 more times." She was actually near the end of the run. I guess I should have said she "wasn't an exception."

I've had enough experience with Thai girls to know when I've come across one who could become a real unpleasant problem. She was one of them. In those situations, it's easier just to cough up 500 and make the problem go away. Sure, I could have said no and dug in. But I think that strategy with this girl would have gotten ugly real fast, and I had no desire to get into that mess.

Nice pics and your sentiments about the high priced drive through service match mine. I think there's a few reasons for this.

1) the cell phone/FL scene has diminished the go go scene. The go gos need to keep recycling the few quality girls they have anymore to stay afloat. Combine that with no showing, unpredictable police action and the FL scene will thrive and the go gos will die or just become clip joints.

2) The increase in oil massage parlors is taking good looking girls out of the go gos. And why not? A good looking girl can probably earn more in these establishments than a bar.

Bangkok is IMHO more suited to expats than traveling mongers these days. It's a city where P4P exists but is not the best destination if that's what you want to spend a week or two pursuing.
