Some of you have no doubt heard about the Republic of Palau as a world-class diving destination, which it certainly is. But a world-class mongering destination? OK, maybe not, but it still is a great place to combine a diving/snorkelling/kayaking/beaching vacation with a surprising numnber of hot ladies and easy sex. Sound interesting? Read on...


Where is Palau?

Palau is a chain of islands in Micronesia, roughly 700 km east of Mindanao. The islands can be reached by two flights, either direct from Manila (2 hours 15 mins) or from Guam (1 hour 40 minutes except for twice a week flights that stop in Yap). Both flights are outrageously expensive ($535-660 from Manila, $450-900 from Guam). This is a result of Continental's monopoly in Micronesia, which may soon change with the rebirth of Palau Micronesia Air. The expense of travelling there is the single biggest negative in terms of choosing Palau as a destination.

The population of Palau is around 21,000 consisting of about 13,000 native Palauans, 5000 Filipino contract workers, 1000 Chinese workers, and another 1000 or so Asians from Japan, Korea, Nepal, Thailand and Bangladesh. There are maybe a couple of hundred whites, mostly Americans but a few Canadians, Australians, Germans and Italians. The economy is centered on marine tourism. specifically SCUBA diving. Palau has some of the most pristine and amazing coral reefs in the world.

Where to stay

There are hotels for every budget in Palau, from $35 a night apartelles to $250 a night luxury resorts. If you are a budget traveller, Tree-D is around $40 a night and is clean, safe, and comfortable. A chain of West Plaza hotels offer more modern rooms for around $70-75 a night. But by far the best mongering option is the Waterfront Villa at $55 a night for a spacious one bedroom apt with a great view. Not much to look at from the outside but the rooms are really nice and the service is good (American owned and operated).

When it comes to food, Palau is simply mind-blowing for a tiny nation of 20,000. The restaurants here are of a quality you would expect in an upscale North American city. This is NOT the Philippines! The offerings include Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Italian, German, Filipino, and all sorts of fusions of various European and Pacific foods. My favorites are the Taj (Indian, specializing in Goan food which I know is authentic because my grandmother is from Goa and I grew up on that food), Suriyothai (Thai), Kramer's (German-Pacific fusion), Dragon Tei (Japanese), Storyboard (steaks and burgers), Palm Bay Bistro (Asian-Euro fusion and also runs an excellent microbrewery - Red Rooster Ale), and lastly the Carp (native Palauan and Japanese). Don't bother with the Filipino places because they all suck, as do almost all Filipino restaurants. This is a former US Territory working on a US economy, so don't expect cheap prices. Entrees run from around $6-15.

The Scene

Basically there is only one type of bar in Palau: Chinese-style KTV bars. About half of these bars employ Chinese girls, the rest employ Filipinas. The Chinese bars as a rule have an overnight barfine; the Filipina bars have a an hourly "barhopping" fine but the girls must be back at the bar by closing time. All bars are open 7 pm - 2 am on weekdays and until 4 am on weekends. The Chinese bars tend to have better-looking women, but they cost more and generally provide less of a GFE than the Filipinas. Chinese bars will usually ask $20/hour plus a hefty tip for short time service. Long-time (overnight) is often quoted at $150-200 US but can always be negotiated down to $100-$150, including the girl's tip. All the Chinese bars charge only $50 to the house; the remainder is up to the girl. If you are a repeat customer and the girl likes you, she may drastically reduce or even waive the tip. If that happens, you are basically at honeyko status. Butterflying can be troublesome at times - this is a small island and every girl knows what's going on in every bar. The Filipinas are of course much more jealous and gossipy than the more professional Chinese. You can alleviate this to some extent by either sticking mainly to Chinese bars (better-looking girls but expensive) or alternating Chinese and Filipinas.

MOst of the Filipinas (like 99%) are NOT professionals, so mongering per se is not an option with them. However, all of them are bored, lonely, and looking for a foreign boyfriend. Hands down, Palau is the easiest place to find free sex that I have ever been to. And I mean free. The Filipinas will be deeply offended if you offer them money after they stay the night. "I'm not a whore!" and a sulky face will be your reward if you try. I had a friend visit recently from Ohio. He scored 5 Filipinas in one week, and paid almost nothing. No gifts, no lunch. Just a ladies drink that evening and we were sneaking them out of their dorms later that night. What fun! Like being back in college...

Bar Review

Most of the bars are concentrated along the port area, in a strip known as Malakal. The last 2 bars listed (De Yi and Dynasty) are "in town" in Koror.

ATT Disco (aka Attractive Restaurant): Filipina bar to be avoided. Barfine is $250 and gets you a shitty massage and a strip tease, no sex. Mention sex, you'll get a runner. Expensive drinks too ($8 ladies' drinks for nothing - no thanks).

Lake Restaurant and Karaoke: All non-pro Filipinas. No barfine, but you can take girls out free (yes free, but there's a catch...) for dinner from 6 - 9 pm. The catch is that you have to eat at Arirang Korean restaurant with the girl (owned by the same Korean guy). Still, Arirang is good and reasonably priced, and if you pick up the girl on time and head straight to dinner, you will have at least 2 hours left for play. Some pretty girls here, including a recent addition named Carol who was a model in Makati, 5'8" and 5'7" of it is smooth sexy legs. Yummy. Easiest place in Palau to score free sex. Most of the girls will sneak out of their barracks to join you if you catch their fancy.

Carnival KTV: Chinese place, quite large. About 20 Chinese girls and 6 or 7 Filipinas. Some pros here but they are freelancing. Barfine is $20/hour, must be back by closing. If a girl has a good time with you, you can ask her if she wants to sneak out after closing. A few of the Chinese girls will charge you for overnight (maybe $50). The Filipinas are less likely to go but if they do it will be free. Check out the mamasan, Kathy. Her face is not great but she has a world-class body and she loves to fuck just for fun. Last month I was in there and she came and sat next me and put her mouth against my ear, then said: "Mahal, sneak me out tonight, I want to rape you". Phoenix KTV. All Chinese. Kind of seedy, rundown place with kind of seedy, rundown girls. Cheap sex by Palau standards - $40 in the VIP room or $75 overnight (they will ask for twice this but quickly come down if you haggle). Once in a while a hottie shows up. Last December I bagged the first Chinese girl I ever met with a natural 38 DD chest. A bit floppy but still a great titty fuck - only one I've ever had from a Chinese girl. I think she was pretty hot in general, but I'm not really sure coz my eyes never made it passed her tits. She liked me so she charged me $60 LT the first night, $50 the next. Beer is $3, ladies' drink $5. That's cheap in Palau. Fun place to sit and relax but also some seriously hot Chinese girls here. Check out Linda and Nancy. Linda is older, still has super hot legs, nice tits and a big mouth that sucks cocks like a vaccuum cleaner. She'll ask $200 LT and get it from drunk Japanese and Korean idiots. You can get her down to $150 or maybe $120 all-inclusive. That's expensive for SEA but where are you gonna find a hot, skilled $120 all-nighter back home in North America? There are a dozen or more other bars in Palau, but none of them are worth visiting or even mentioning. That used to be the case, but not anymore. The biggest tourist segment now comes from Taiwan. That makes finding girls a lot easier, since they are on packaged tours and don't have money to throw around in the bars like the Japanese did.

Hunter and Val, sorry for the delayed response, I never check these damn message, hehe. Hunter, older and in good shape is definitely better. Filipinas like older men because they think older guys will treat them better than young bucks (probably true). I'm neither young (41) nor handsome (but I'm not fugly) and I score at will.

Truk lagoon has awesome wreck diving but MAKE SURE YOU STAY ON A LIVE-ABOARD. Chuuk (Truk) is one of the nastiest, most dangerous islands on Earth. You would not want to stay in a hotel there. Palau has a huge selection of WWII shipwrecks and plane wrecks and much better reef diving than Chuuk. The other half of the Japanese navy was sunk in Palau, while Operation Hailstorm was going on in Truk. Palau has tons of easy, attractive puki, Chuuk has zero. Given the choice, I would skip Truk Lagoon and go straight to Palau.

Lastly, Palau can be reached on the cheap from Davao, Philippines. One hour flight for $250 return, 3 times a week.

I'd love to Dive Palau Hunterman! I always thought Truk was the destination, but from what AGR says, we would need to focus on Palau. I have heard that the water is very murky and that you need to do a "tie-dive" sometimes. Let me know if you want to tack this onto a Singapore, phillipines or Thailand trip. I would LOVE to dive here!

Asian Spirit has direct flights from Davao City to Koror, Palau, 3 times a week.

H-man, who told you Palau had low vis?! We have spectacular vis here, 150' plus. Truk Lagoon is the place that often has poor vis due to movement of the ships in heavy seas stirring up the lagoon bottom. We due have a lot of strong currents here, and you can either drift dive if you're experienced enough and not freaked out by 5 knot currents blasting you past packs of sharks and dogtooth tuns, or you can hook in with a reef hook and line attached to your BCD. I much prefer the drift...

By the way, did you know that 'H-man' is the local Palauan slang for a playboy or monger? How appropriate...
