PASSPORT ADVENTURES

Made it to LA yesterday and picked up the passport.
You MUST book an appointment by phone. They will not let you in without one. There were people standing in line to get in making calls for appointments. No line at 7:30am. At 1pm there was a 30 Minute line. Now this is just to get in the building. There is another line inside for the passport stuff.

Once inside, you stand in a line to check in and get a number and then wait to be called. My appt was for 7:30am. I got there at 7:15 and was done with the application process at 8:30. Next step is to come back for your passport.

If there is time, they want to mail it to you. If there isn't time for that, you come back to pick it up from "Will Call". They only have 2 "Will Call" times a day. 10am - 11am and 1pm - 2pm. I got the impression that if I hadn't had a morning appointment, I couldn't have made the afternoon will call and would have had to come back the next day! The clerk said, since I had driven up from SD that they would have it for the 1pm will call. I think if I had lived in LA they would have had me come back another day.

Thanks for everyone's advice. Hopefully my little mis-adventure has helped other's be aware of the 6 month rule.

I leave Friday morning, and maybe they'll let me in the country now. Woo Hoo!!!!

RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM PI, BURGOS AND 1ST DAY IN AC

Just got here. Man I hate that long flight. I usually can sleep anywhere, except an aeroplane apparently.
Went to Burgos. With all the expertise of 2 days I definitely see the beauty in Burgos is much higher than AC. On Burgos I had to pick between hotties, in AC I search several bars looking for 1.

Planned on doing Flamingos 4 the barfine, ladies drink thing. Holiday Inn discourages guests. None after 10 am. So needed and in bar short time. Flamingos no longer has VIP room. Best time of my vacation. Seemed like a real vacation.

Truism in life - Where ever you go, there you are. Learning alot about myself.

Have been having a kind of weird vacation, in part because of sickness and jet lag, but also learning what I like. I never was much of a bar guy. I don't drink, because I don't like the "feel" of alcohol. So I never was much of a clubber, dancing is cool, (if I can get a chick, (with my looks (skinny, nerdy, shy) have never done well in the "visual" bar scene). Mostly shoot pool and watch. I thought the problem was if I just had some chicks it would be more fun. Maybe my age/lower energy level is catching up to me, but I found I don't even like the bar scene here. Noisy, overwhelming, "what dO I do now?". I barfined girls, but going out barhopping just didn't appeal. Would rather go back to hotel, watch movies and make out. So the trip to Subic was just what I needed.

Anyhow on to Subic. I HIGHLY recommend this as part of any trip.

I booked a car from Margaritaville (2100p each way) and stocked up on cash. But drastically underbudgeted. After paying for car and 2 days bf x 2 I had about 8000p. Drive took about 2 hours. Had planned on staying at Blue Rock but they were booked. And relitively expensive, It looked like rooms were $29 -$49 a night. Looked around and checked out room rates. For under 1,000 you can get tiny room with fan, a little over 1,000 gets you AC. Closer to 2,000 gets you a non-tiny room, but.... they are all small queen sized beds and room has 2 person limit. If you bring more than 1 girl you are going to have to upgrade to the few hotels with family rooms or get multiple rooms. Since we were heading back at 8pm next day I mixed it up.

Got a very nice family room (2 double beds) at Sheaven's for 3000 for one night. Felt like "luxury" resort with it's own private swimming area with shallow water and no waves. Nice and mellow. Spent evening/night swimming and eating at tables right on waters edge. Night time swimming was very nice.

Next day just got a basic room at Lagoon for 1200 to serve as base of operations and place to shower before the drive back. Nice but tiny and off the beach. It was across the street from Johann's which is apparently a popular dive center/hotel. Grabbed one of the tents on their beach and kept buying food and drinks to compensate. They have an extensive list of things to do including jet skis, scuba trips, day trips to some water park like Sea World, para-sailing, ect. Plan on around 1500 per event, with the day trip more like 3000. We just hung at the beach, played and the surf and napped. The girls appreciated the break from the noise and smog of AC. For me, it was like a day on the beach in San Diego, but with fun girls added. Ended the day with a 1 hour (500p) boat ride around the harbor on small outrigger. I would recommend taking 15,000p minimum for a couple of days, to really live well and try all the things it has to offer.

Got back to AC late Monday night and found out they had major rain and a 5 hour power brownout! It looks like I picked a good day to go to Subic.

On to my last full day here! Wow, it goes by fast.

I also had a bad reaction to Cialis. On my last trip to LOS I tried it for the first time head aches stomach trouble and what felt like arthritis lasted almost two days. Lesson learnt; never try any medication for the first time wile travelling.

Sound like you had a fun trip despite the health problems. Sometimes I read a report and the poor guy is so busy getting laid that he doesn’t have time to enjoy the culture and experience of being away from home. I can’t help but think that being too goal orientated can make you miss out.

Conclusion and Costs

Well this trip ended much the same way as my BKK trip. I just get to feeling better
and getting into the groove of the place and it is time to go. In the discus area, someone
brought up the common sore throat. I have heard it called "Vegas throat". Along with all of our
exposure in the confines of airplanes and such, the repeated transition from air conditioning to
hot, dry outdoors does a number on the throat. I am surprised that mine progressed
to a full on tonsil infection, but I was also doing a lot of DFK so could have caught something there.
Now that I am home, I am eating like a madman, so I was apparently depleted.

Tuesday was my last full day in AC. Bid Adeu to my Subic sweeties and started looking
for something interesting to end the trip. Around 4pm I roamed the open bars and Santos street
looking for my best options and decided the DD girl had the most promise. So called her up for a short

1st Night in Manila was $200 and Subic was about $300. Every other day was about $100.
Seemed like 500p notes just melted away.
I also had odd expenses, The doctor and Meds were about $80 and I bought some glasses for $40.

Now to go pay for it all.

Your observation on Burgous sure hit the nail on the head. Some of those places are a veritable sea of hot, young stuff. Alas, at nighttime, which is usually the right time, the 500 peso notes do indeed seem to vanish into thin air. NOTE: Try bringing more 1000 peso notes next time, they go about half as fast. LOL

Since you don't drink, you will probably be a bit more saavy the next time. But for us beer swillers, "no hay remedio" on Burgous at night.
