MONDAY, MAY 1, 2006

It's amazing what going to sleep while it is still dark out will do for you. I woke up at 7:30, pretty well-rested and ready to go. I had to leave for the airport at 12:30, and considered making a run to Cavin Spa, but unfortunately, I had nothing left in the tank,

This was a pretty intense four days for me, monger-wise, so I just left well enough alone. I took a taxi over to Starbucks, where I read the paper, then I stopped off at Supermarket Wong where I picked up some Tejas to bring back for my friends and a few sandwiches to tide me over on the flights. I then walked around Miraflores for a little while, just because I like the place. Then, back to the hotel to shower and pack.

Checkout was a snap - I had prepaid for the hotel, so all I owed was a couple of dollars to cover my telephone calls (I use my cell phone to call other mobile phones, and the hotel's phone for land lines). The hotel has a couple of guys in suits who drive a clean, new, large car, and you are paying for the convenience and luxury. He asked me if I wanted a ride to the airport, and I said, sure, how much? When he replied, "70 Soles" (I paid 30 to come from the airport - and that was high), I said (in Spanish), "Gracias, senor, but that's too much for me. I will just pay 20 or 25 on the street, but thank you for offering." He said to me, "how about 30?" It was worth an extra $2-3 for a clean, large car, so he had a sale.

The car was brand new, and he drove like he wanted to keep it that way. The sad part for me about going home is that my Spanish always gets better by the third or fourth day. We talked in Spanish for the entire ride, and I only had to slow him down or ask what a word meant a couple of times. I think that, if I lived there, I could pick up the language fairly quickly.

Check-in at Copa was surprisingly painless, and they got me an exit row seat on both flights. The food looked as bad as it was on the inbound flights, so buying the sandwiches was a good move. We left a half hour late, but made that up on the changeover.

Arriving at Miami Airport at 11:00 PM on Monday was a pleasure. There were more immigration clerks than people trying to enter the country. The customs guy asked me if I had any tobacco, alcohol or food products, and when I told him that I didn't, he waved me on and went back to reading his newspaper. I also got to avoid the traffic on the interstate, and was back home in my own bed by 12:30 - great time for a flight that arrived just after 11:00.

WRAP UP
What a trip. I love being in Lima to start with, and I got the advantage of hanging with some experts who knew their way around the local P4P scene. I got to go to some of the places that I had only heard about and either couldn't find or were afraid to go to, and I made some new friends. If I hadn't opened my big mouth on the last night with my waitress friend, I would have done perfectly.

I wound up spending about $700 in cash over the five days. This included all the girls, all my meals, gifts, taxis, gambling, $80 for glasses, airport exit tax ($30), parking at Miami airport, and just about anything I could think of. I had prepaid the hotel ($185) and the airfare was $533. So aside from the flight, this was dirt cheap, and I could have stuck to a lower budget if I had wanted to. I got to have sex whenever I felt like it, and do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted to.

Besides La Cucardas and El Trocadero, which were great, I really liked the Anaconda. The type of 'frat party, except you can fuck any of the girls there' attitude has always been one that really appeals to me. I am just at home in those surroundings. I'm fairly certain that in a city of almost 8 million people, there have to be other, similar places. And places that I have a chance of finding, too!

Things that I still need to explore are the lower-priced incall options (many advertise in Trome), but everyone I've spoken to say that they're hit-or-miss, the high-end clubs (Suites of Barranco, 69, etc.), and - I'm not sure why - the downtown clubs again. Safari was a nice place, and I'm not convinced that waiting until 5:00 am to go with a girl is the only option. There's also a thriving higher-end incall scene (most of the free-lance girls that advertise on the web have incalls) that is always an option.

Putting the sex aside, I just like being in Lima. The food's cheap, the weather's nice, the people are absolutely great, and anything you would expect from a big city is there and available. And this is a country that knows just how much old men like to look at and deal with young girls. One day, I passed two stores in Lima Centro (a bakery and a print shop). Both had signs in their window that read: "HELP WANTED: Must be a girl ages 23-27." Just perfect.

On that happy note, thanks for reading. Listo.

Fantastic! Convinced me I'm going to Lima anyway. Thanks for taking the time to write it up.

RT, if we ever meet somewhere south of the border? I hope I remember to bring my white UM cap with me from SFO, Ca.

I enjoyed your reports and tidbits.

Though for me personally, I would of probably paid the 200 bucks more and fly American and get them FF miles.

RT:

BKKguru here.

Thanks for a well written report. Attention to detail is a hallmark of your trip reports.

How is the crime situation in Lima? I am not referring to pickpockets or petty crime but serious stuff like homicides etc. Anything to be worried about?

Please advise.

Frankly, I don't know.

On occasion, people would caution me about being 'careful', For the most part, I hang out in the well-lt, heavily police-patrolled tourist area of Miraflores.

When I am anywhere else, I take a taxi door-to-door. It's not foolproof, but it has worked so far.

According to the United Nations here:

Peru seems pretty safe.

That's what I know about crime.

RT,

Thanks alot for the "inside" Peru info. I've been going to Peru for the last 18yrs and have never made it much out of Mira Flores area.

Would be great to hang with some locals one time.

Thanks again.
