I've been going through the photo archives and thought it was time to post a few pics from my stay in POA. I'll keep the commentary to a minimum; the pics speak for themselves.

Interesting, I knew Katrina was a pro, as she moves around alot, working in POA and SP, but is from Floripa, but she never said anything about being on web sites. I'll have to ask her more about this. But she's the real deal. I'm a bit surprised with her, because of all the southern girls I met, she was the most shy! And she would not allow nude photos. Maybe because she was under contract!

Technically (according to the Bureau of the Census), Brazilian is not Hispanic. But for future affirmative action considerations, it is good to check Hispanic.

In my mind, Latina means "woman of a Latin culture". Cat's comment seems to imply that garotas also give it "racial" meaning.

I have only been to Rio once so I'm not an expert on GDP attitudes about labels.

Look at it this way - when you were in Rio, did you see any black Brasilians? Well, by local definition, you probably didn't see that many, because what we consider black they would call mullato, and would not think of themselves as black at all.

Generally speaking, white Brasilians do not consider themselves to be Latino/Hispanic. The Argentinos I've met and worked with also do not consider themselves Latino/Hispanic.

Would you call a Spaniard or Italian or Frenchman a Latino, just because the languages and cultures are Roman/Latin based?

Brasilians pretty much consider themselves as Brasilians, except when they are trying to fuck a Venezuelan/Peruvian/Paraguyan etc, chica, then it's "somos todos Latinos! Viva AmericaLatina Unida!"

That's an interesting duality. "We are not one of those low down brown Latinos/Latinas, we b white" when they are distinguishing among themselves but when standing up to the gringos it's "somos todos Latinos! Viva AmericaLatina Unida!".

While I knew that racism is deeply embedded in Latin America (and just about everywhere), I did not think that "Latino" or "Latina" could be considered pejorative. Live and Learn.

With all due respect to poster Katrina, is plastered all over the internet. I may be wrong but unless there is some more "candid" photos out there she seems more eastern european or a russian model.

Since you've only been to Brasil once you most likely have no idea of what happens on a daily basis. Also remember that a lot of white families in Mexico and elsewhere do not call themselves Latino but prefer the term Hispanic. The phrase Latino is more of an American invention anyways.

As far as being Latino or not, that is for the people being described to decide, not foreigners. If you're from POA or Florianopolis or Curitiba and your grandparents on both sides of the family came from Germany, you would have quite a different perception on life than a black/mullato Brasilian from Recife. But still, the white guy from POA and the black guy from Recife would have a heck of a lot more in common than what either would have with a Spanish-speaking Peruvian or Venezualen, be they mestizo or white. That's what I've seen as the major differentiation - language and culture.

Re: Katrina, I've seen many brasilian girls with looks similar to hers, especially in SP. Mo-H and Blazers: have you been to Brazil? Not all the garotas have stereotypical "latina" looks.
