OK, so after a couple of days in Sihanoukville, running back and forth to the port district I decided to take the bus to Phnom Penh. I booked the bus in the a.m. from my guest house for $6 and caught a ride to the bus stop. I was hung over a bit and didn't really feel like riding, but I had to make my way up country.
The bus looked fairly modern and comfortable. Upon arriving, I got a snack and boarded the bus and chose a seat. Much to my dismay, I was told that the seats were pre-assigned. I ended up having the crappiest seat on the bus. It was in the last row against the engine.
The last row as elevated and there were 5 seats accross. Mine was the middle! To make matters worse, the two seats to the left were taken by 3 people! A mother father and child.
As we drove away, I couldn't sit up straight because it was uncomfortable, so I had to lean forward a bit. Also, the child next to me kept falling asleep and putting his feet on me. Oh well! I learned about the assigned seats for next time, so I just made the best of it. It was a five hour ride or so with a stop in the middle for food.
Finally, I arrived in Phnom Benh where I made my way to my hotel, the New York hotel. In my opinion, the hotel was pricey, but I needed something a little more upscale after that crappy bus ride.
I had an appointment that evening to meet my Guide, Ben Wee. I had booked Ben off recommendations from this board since it was my first time there. For the afternoon, I walked out and got some food on the hot streets of PP. I took a few photos of a temple I walked by. I got some sleep.
That evening, Ben took me to many places. I pretty much just checked them out from the car. I did check out Sharkey's but didn't find any talent that both appealed to me and seemed right. I then look at the 63rd street area, and I just wanted in the mood for the crowd surrounding the car. So we headed to Martini's. It was cool and I got some food. While I was there I met two nice Khmer girls and eventually decided to take them back to the hotel. We spent the night together. They weren't much on oral sex, and also they wanted me to switch condoms each time I swithed. But, I still managed to have a nice time with them.
The next day, I had to leave early to catch a plane to Siem Reap. Thank God it wasn't another bus.
