Anyway I received an email from Sandman, it must have been fate. So we agreed to meet up on the 13th April in Rio for a couple of weeks and then proceed back to Medellin. I speak a little Spanish, but no Portuguese whatsoever and having spent some time with Sandman in Medellin I knew he would be the prefect chap to go to Rio with. I have to admit I don’t really get excited about trips away, I always look forward to them, but in this particular case I couldn’t wait. Having read the reports and chatted to Sandman and Don Gringo about Rio I knew it was going to be one hell of a trip.
I packed last minute as usual, if fact I actually booked the trip the day before I left, but my travel agents are long suffering and used to the fact that lateness is part of my greatness. I missed my first flight from Newquay to London, so booked myself into the next flight, not the first time. Something always crops up in business last minute and means I have to sort problems out. The 2nd flight however was delayed by 3 hours, so I was getting a little nervous about catching my Heathrow flight. I made it, but it was damn close (again).
I hate flying too, I get really nervous, I’ve been on hundreds of planes but it never gets any easier. I now pick my flights by the statistics of reliability and go with British Airways. Although I have to admit my flight before with them returning from New York resulted in the oxygen masks dropping out mid flight and I woke up to screaming and panic. Weird how you react in those situations I just looked around at the passengers and my mates and said “Bollocks”. We had emergency landing due to one of the passengers having a heart attack I presume brought on by the masks and loss of altitude. I hope the chap is ok, but there was an ambulance waiting as we landed.
Anyway, I digress, I flew to San Paolo and then onto Rio. I cleared customs without any problems and as always there were beautiful ladies working at the customs which always makes queuing easier. I arrived a day ahead of Sandman and was collected at the airport by Hilton. I was absolutely shattered and proceeded to get into the drivers seat, he started laughing and said “you wish to drive”. I drive worse than a lady who sings to cheesy music and shovels her make up on while directing the car with her knees, so best not.
Hilton took me on the scenic route and I didn’t realize just how large Rio was. I got taken to Copa Cabana area and met Mr. D, a mate of Sandmans. He kindly took me to the apartment that Sandman and myself had arranged to stay at. I have to admit it was pretty good, I was impressed. We were paying around $70 a night to stay there between the two of us. It had internet connection and computer desk, sky television in both double bedrooms and sitting room, a good kitchen, warm showers, safes and was also secure.

Mr. D had to go to his Portuguese lessons, so I had a little sleep. I wanted to take the trip at a slow pace, because I had 5 weeks in South America and only so much stamina. We arranged to meet for lunch and thankfully I had already changed local money so didn’t need the bank yet. Oh and I remembered to bring dollars this time, when I went to Costa Rica a few years back I took Sterling, only one bank knew what the hell it was, so I was at the mercy of their exchange rates, live and learn hey.
We had been out of the flat for about 30 minutes before some kids tried to steal mr D’s phone, but he’s been there way too long to have that happen, so luckily we got away ok. Little git’s are every where; it got a little annoying having to charge through them or push them away when crossing the road. If you haven’t been told this already, try not to leave any valuables on your table when eating outside near help, they can be bloody quick at snatching stuff while you’re trying to have a relaxing meal.
Well, we went to 4 by 4. I have to admit that I have been many places, but I just love the set up here! If your tall watch your head as you go up the stairs. We went into the dressing room and changed into our robes and flip flops. Then preceded into the darkly light main room with a very big grin on my face, there must have been a lot of lovely ladies here. Even if you are incredibly picky (me) then you will still find any type of lady you could possibly wish to meet in there. We were there before I think it is 5pm when the prices change, so I paid 140R for a 40 minute session. I asked the guys for a recommendation and met a blonde that gave a fabulous service. 4 by 4 is like a large maze. They used to own only a section of the club, but have bought up the rest of the building. There are two bars. The drinks are quite well priced too. It was free to enter; I spent 140R on the lady and 65R on drink. You can relax on loungers, they have soap, showers, razors and tooth paste, brushes incase you have not had time to get ready, nice touch I thought.
On my way out I was pounced on by a lady who was trying to kiss me, licking my ear and neck and whispered into my ear “I’ll do anything”. Wonderful, but sadly I was still jet lagged and needed some sleep. Doh!
The next day Sandman arrived at the ungodly hour of 7.30am. Actually it was great to see him and I thanked him for making sure that I was looked after well by his friend Mr D before he could arrive. We went and exchanged money as there was a holiday coming up and we didn’t wish to run out of money. They seem to have many holidays (slackers) in Brazil, so make sure that you have checked if this is going to happen when you are here. Preparation prevents piss poor performance!
We had a spot of lunch near help, they do a really good lunch here of chicken in breadcrumbs with banana and is really well priced for anyone who is on a budget, or just in the mind frame of “you don’t get rich by giving it away”.
We had another run in with a gang of kids and I had to stab one of them with my light cigarette, I hate this sort of behavior, but needs must when the devil drives. They don’t seem to listen to reason and can be very aggressive. After my run in with knife welding kids in Venezuela I have less of a tolerance for unruly behavior.
I’m a creature of habit and when I find a place that I like I tend to return. So we went back to 4 by 4. Mr. D is like royalty here, I think he’s been there well over 200 times. I picked up a little spinner, 23, who turned out to be a great kisser too. What I really enjoyed about Brazil was the attitude the girls have when they are with you. Actually I can’t believe that I did that, so if anyone is lucky enough to meet her, do exactly the opposite to me and take her back to yours for some fun and games. I had a great first trip, had the pleasure of meeting many cool chaps and learnt enough so that when I return I can be a little more adventurous. Rio is fun; I would like to explore other parts of Brazil in the future as I heard good things. I am returning to Medellin again as I am buying a pad there, but I think that it’s not too far to dot between the two.
