After witnessing P’s enthusiasm to get into Thailand and get after it, I also became excited to finally get after it myself. I nearly lost control of my bladder as a big old Mercedes bus started to roar towards us and the driver swung back into the proper lane just before we were hit. A quick turn onto Wireless Road and I think the motorcycle hit about 100 kph before the driver slowed down a bit while we went over the river bridge. We made it to the front of the line while waiting for the signal to turn and were soon arriving at the Prince Hotel. 50 baht and few thanks to the big man upstairs for allowing me to survive that ride (FYI: I am not even religious) and I was walking out from the Prince Hotel onto Petchaburi Road and towards Atami.
A few random thoughts on motorcycle taxis. There is no way in hell I would be riding one again without a helmet. Almost everyone you see on a motorcycle has a helmet and for good reason. I can’t believe the chicks who ride side-saddle on the back on these things. I am scared to death holding on to the back rail with both hands. My knuckles were pretty white afterward and I think I squeezed my driver’s legs to death with my own. I can’t imagine going SIDE-SADDLE on one of these things. Better stick to the Toyota Corollas I think. I didn’t rule out not taking another one again. But three things needed to happen for me to think about taking another ride on a motorcycle taxi. 1. I would have to be in a hurry. 2. It would have to be one of the busier traffic times. 3. They would have to give me a helmet.

The best way to get to Atami if you’re coming from the Sukhumvit area is to take a cab. But don’t take a cab to Atami. Take it to the Prince Hotel which is located very close by. Tell the cabbie Prince Hotel on Petchaburi Road and he should know what you are talking about. It is really close to the Plaza Entertainment Complex that houses Cupidy, Delila, and Sherbet massage as well as some karaoke and snooker clubs.
If you are coming from Sukhumvit, the taxi will probably take you west on Sukhumvit over to Wireless Road. Then you’ll head north and then east once you hit New Petchaburi. The Prince Hotel is on the left hand of the road and you can’t miss it. Upon arrival head into the Prince Hotel and go the restroom and wash your hands. When you come out the taxi is gone. Once there you have several options for massage. Plaza is just to the north of you, and to the east you have Embassy, Angara, Halem and Atami all within walking distance.
Embassy is on Soi 39, Halem and Angara are on Soi 41. Atami is just past Soi 41. There is a small side street that I go up to get to Atami these days. It has a gate for vehicular traffic that is usually open.
