Chapter Six of the Multi-Country Report: Icarus Wings it Through SE Asia

My original plans for the Philippines had included a 5 day excursion to Boracay to do some scuba diving with my Filipina ‘girl friend’ from Singapore (see Chapters 2 and 5 if that is not making any sense to you). This plan was screwed up by the non-appearance of Mae, but I still wanted to spend some time in Boracay. All the indications were that this was not a particularly fruitful mongering destination so I decided to take a girlfriend from AC for the weekend. Frankly, most of this chapter is a travelogue, in case anyone is considering doing the AC – Boracay trip in the future, and also a shameless excuse for more pictures of the sexy Rona in a bikini (and not in a bikini). If you are looking to read about more mongering exploits, skip ahead to Chapter 7 for the final part of my AC trip report.

Getting there
Couldn’t really be easier. Daily flights by SEAir direct from Clark to Caticlan, which is the large island off which Boracay lies. Book online or at the SEAir office on Fields. My online price was 10,000 pisos, for the return trip, but I booked Rona’s ticked at the SEAir office and this only seemed to come to 8,500. On departure day, SEAir provide a free shuttle bus that will call in at Fields and Perimeter hotels on the way to the airport if you pre-book with the SEAir office. The process at Clark was rapid and painless and we were soon boarding the small aircraft that would take us to Caticlan. Note that the check-in baggage allowance on SEAir is only 10kg, and the carry-on limit is 5kg. I had a single back pack weighing 8kg which they allowed me to carry on, so there appears to some flexibility as to how the rules are interpreted. But in any case, my advice is to travel light as the whole journey will be much easier that way. All you need on Boracay is shorts, tee-shirt and sandals.

SEAir

The flight itself takes about 50 minutes, and you can get a good view of Boracay as you come in to land at the small Caticlan airport. The landing strip is so small that pilot really has to stand on the brakes and apply full reverse thrust as soon as the wheels hit the ground, so as not to plough into the trees at the far end of the strip. At the airport you have to sign some sort of arrival form, then it is on to the trike stand, where you pay 40 pisos up front for the trike to the ferry terminal. This journey takes about 10 minutes. You then have to buy a ferry ticket and pay a ferry terminal fee (I forget the exact amount but about 70 pisos in total I think). Then on to the next available ferry having paid a further 100 piso fee for entering the Boracay conservation area, or something like that. The ferries seem to leave as soon as the driver thinks he has enough passengers to make it worthwhile, but I never had to wait more than 5 minutes in either direction.

Ferry 1
Ferry 2

In high season when the winds are offshore in relation to the main Boracay beach (White Beach), the ferries will dump you directly on the beach right next to your resort. In the monsoon season when I went, the waves are too rough for this and the ferries go to the southern end of the island, which is only 10 minutes sailing from the Caticlan ferry terminal. Make sue you are wearing flip-flops or shoes that you are happy to get wet as you disembark into the sea! After disembarking at the Boracay ferry terminal, it’s another trike ride to your resort, at a standard rate of 100 pisos.

The Island
Boracay is only about 7km long, with a single main road running up the middle. The island is dominated by White Beach, a 4 km stretch of white coral sand on the West coast. Most of the resorts, bars and restaurants are located next to the beach path, which runs the length of White Beach.

White Beach

There is a wide variety of accommodation available, ranging from swanky 5 star resorts, down to humble beach huts, with various options in between these extremes. I ended up stating in Boracay Beach Villas, which is a collection of one room huts finished in bamboo and palm thatch to make them look ‘authentic’. The room was clean and comfortable enough, the only thing missing being a room safe. I was paying a rate of $18 US per night off-peak.

Beach Hut

During the monsoon season (roughly August – October), the whole island appears to go in to retreat, and screens are erected all along seaward side of the beach path to protect the bars and restaurants from the fierce winds that blow in at that time of the year. I found that there were quite long sunny periods during the day when you could happily lie out on the beach, interspersed with cloudier periods. In the evenings the wind gets up and was accompanied by torrential rain on most nights. In September the vast majority of tourists appeared to be Koreans, with quite a few Filipinos as well, presumably the more well-off ones from Manila.

The Nightlife
There are plenty of places to eat although prices are considerably higher than in AC. I could not find that many bars – maybe only 3 or 4 decent ones fronting the sea. There may be others further back which I never got to. I spent most of my evenings in Nigi Nigi Nu Nus, which is a bar and restaurant attached to a resort of the same name. This was frequented by quite a number of the diving instructor fraternity, who were good company for a chat over a beer or two.

From talking to the diving crowd, I established that the only venue that offered any prospect of picking up girls was a bar/disco called Cocomangas. This is located on the inland side of the main road, towards the north end of White Beach. I decided to take Rona there to check out the FL scene. When we got there at about 11:00 pm, the place was really buzzing. Mostly locals as far as I could see. There was a small dance floor next to the bar and the local crowd seemed to be having a great time dancing the usual international flavoured techno diet being churned out by the DJ. Towards the back of the club, there were several low level cubicle type seating areas, each with a low table and about 6 scatter cushions. Ideal for chilling out and maybe getting to know your girl a bit better. There were quite a few FL girls sitting at the bar, and others patrolling round the dance floor. No great lookers; most girls were in the 5-7 range, but certainly a few that would be doable if you did not have a girl friend to hand. Although I chatted to a couple of girls at the bar, I didn’t get round to asking what their rates were, so I am sorry that I can’t offer any useful information on this.

The Girlfriend
One of my first tasks on day 1 in Boracay was to get Rona into a bikini so that I could enjoy the view all day long. This proved more difficult than I had envisaged as she appeared extremely shy when it came to choosing swimwear. Strange when you think that back in Cherry’s Club, she would spend her whole working day in a bikini! Eventually, with the aid of a helpful shop assistant, we selected something that she liked and met my criteria for being as skimpy as possible. (It occurs to me that bikini shopping trips were becoming a regular feature of this SE Asia mongering tour. Perhaps I should buy a job lot next time). Then it was back to the hut to change of the beach, and give the bikini it first outing. I was not disappointed with the results, and hopefully you will agree when you see the pictures. Needles to say, the process of changing into and out of her bikini got me extremely horny, and I lost count of the number of sessions we had over the two days and three nights we spent in Boracay. Rona never failed to take her pleasure and to give in return. Up to that point, I would have said that my Batam fuck-fest weekend earlier in the month would have been hard to beat, but Rona just exuded sex every minute of the day and we had some truly mind blowing sessions. I also took the opportunity to explore some third hole action with Rona, having already ascertained that she was not ‘cherry ass’. Much to my surprise, she really seemed to enjoy this as much as I did – what a treasure!

Going home
After a good breakfast at Nigi Nigi’s, we did some shopping for local jewellery, and Rona bought necklaces for many of her friends at Cherry’s (only 40 pisos each). The trike-ferry-trike journey back to the airport only took 30 minutes in total and we were soon flying back to the delights of AC.

Conclusion
Boracay is a great little tropical island, but is probably best to visit during high season. Unless you are prepared to work hard at pulling the local talent, I suggest you bring your own girlfriend. Now here are the Rona pics. Enjoy!

Vary informative reports. I lived in the PI many years ago for a couple years and in Bandung, Indonesia for 5 years in the early to mid 90’s. Spent lots of weekends in Singapore and other SEA places. Sounds like it’s still the same. You probably read the book “No Money, No Honey,” a staple there in Singapore.
I'll be going to Boracay in a couple weeks and I find the internet search a bit pricy. I was there 10 years ago during the off season without reservations and basically walked up and down the beach till I found a nice place at a reasonable rate. Am thinking of doing the same thing this time. Rates are going up this month and may be able to find a bargain, but don’t want to end up sleeping on the beach to save a couple of bucks. Did it seem like there were a lot of vacancies? Maybe the thing to do is to book a place for a couple nights and look around.
Anyway, sounds like you had a great time, maybe on the edge of burn out in AC. Great way to burn. Thanks again for the reports.

Dan
Glad you found the report useful.
There were plenty of vacancies at every resort when I was there and there were definitely bargains to be had. Now that we are heading into high season, I would expect that things will start to fill up and prices will be less flexible. But maybe you will still be able to pick up a bargain if you are going in November. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your trip.
