This takes place the 3rd night of my trip.

We had spent the day sightseeing again. Fun enough, but it would have been nice to have company. No worries, though as it was fun and with night coming it was going to get even better.

Tonight's venue was more my style. In the evening, we set out for Soi Cowboy.

We got there pretty early, around 5:00pm and the girls were still slowly getting to work. We sat outside for a long while, sucking back a beer or two and just enjoying the street parade of early comers, students taking shortcuts down Soi Cowboy on their moto-taxis and chatting.

I took the lazy way out and just shot a few pictures from the stool.

The afternoon passed with a few beers and alot of girl watching. Soon enough it was dark and the clubs were opening up. As we got ready to leave, my friend asked me "are you going to pick" and I was like "um hell no" (not a literal recollection but pretty close to what I was thinking ;) )

Instead I proposed we barhop a bit more. We went to *I think* Long Gun which had a few good looking dancers (it was still early in the evening), but I wasn't getting the eye contact I was looking for so I checked bin and moved on.

Finally we ended up at Dollhouse, which imho, had the best lineup that night. I was attracted to two of the dancers right off. One was a tiny spinner and had a real "cute" look to her. The other, smokey eyed, dark skinned and reminded me of Rat (from Catz?) but with a harder body. I got eye contact and smiles from both. Thanks. It's actually the new Fuji FX30.

I bought it specifically because it's supposed to go iso3200 (although at that point it's got major grain). Still I was pushing the "natural light" setting pretty hard on the trip.

Actually as the pictures progress you can almost see the light fading into early evening and it was pretty dark, darker than the pictures indicate, by the time the last photos were taken. I just braced the camera or my elbows on the countertop and shot as steady as I could.

Pros: takes very good low light pictures. day pictures are sharp, if I am.
Cons: I hate Fuji's habit of always going solo in their memorycard format.
I'm happy overall with the camera. We'll see how it is over time. My last camera was/is a Sony DSC T-1.

Ahha. I have been laughing at just about every pocketcam besides canon and sony over the years.

Then recently, I tried out a friend's F30 last weekend at a carnival. I never thought I would say it, BUT the camera SOLIDLY outperformed my beloved and NEW SD800 in low light dusk-ish conditions. Actually it wasn't even close when I magnify/crop pics. Good enough that I will switch to the F31 when it comes out as my pocketcam of choice-- even if it means going to shitty non-standard memory cards (my largest peeve now with Fuji). Still well below the quality of my DSLR, but at the price of what the F30 is going for it is by far the best bargain in pocketcams.

My other cam is an Olympus E-300. I have the costco dual lens package (2 teles) and I bought the 50mm lens for portrait and macro.

I'm not that good with photography and I'm sure that a good one can make more with much less.

Be careful when buying memory. The olympus and fuji xd cards are not the same. there's some kind of software that limits panoramic function on cameras that are equipped with them. I'm not entirely sure how that works, but it's probably some pissy thing they did to keep their own customers buying their own cards. I believe you'll find more on it if you google.

I'm glad to hear that it performed well in your test, as it's hard for me to compare. I just try to get really steady and make the shot and hope it turns out.
