It is November of 2006, and I feel like taking another monger trip but November is way too cold for Prague or Vienna, and I have heard so much about Rio and Bangkok, I think this is an excellent time to try one of those warmer destinations. I set up a short comparison chart to decide where to go:

RIO: warm, warm, nice, nice, long flight, dead

Although the two cities are similar, the last parameter makes me choose Bangkok -- it is so much easier to have a good time without a knife in your back -- but decide to visit Phuket as well, as I love to dive, and the place promises to be one of the most beautiful trips one can take to a tropical paradise.

I arrive in BKK after a horrendous flight. Lots of single men getting off the plane -- especially Japanese. The new airport is beautiful, and Hombre advice helps me cut through the airport scams and into a legal taxi cab. The cab is the same Toyota model I donated to the junkyard a couple of years ago and the guy drives like we're in Grand Theft Auto, but at least the cost is only about 15 bucks.

I have a room for two reserved at the Dynasty (http://www.dynastyinn.com) based on Hombre advice. It is only $50 but looks brutally basic. On the other hand, the place is a total monger hotel with whores swarming all over the place. I turn on the air conditioner, fall into bed and sleep for a long time.

The first day I spend sight seeing and learning about the city. Everybody from the tuktuk driver to the soldier tries to scam me. One driver demands $120 for a 2 mile trip -- though he eventually settles for 40 cents.

The first night I go to Patpong to marvel at all the ladies in the bars. There are no shows that I can find, not even the vaginal acrobatics this country is famous for. I try to ignore the touts but end up getting scammed by $4 at one of the clubs upstairs -- no big deal. I finally find the famous King's group bar with the stunning post-ops. There are many reasons you did not discover this trip why it is worth going to LOS rather than Prague for anything other than a short trip, even with the airfare, if you stay for more than 5 days LOS becomes better value and more fun. Having made a large number of trips to both GIG/GRU and BKK, I'd say that for an OVERALL experience BKK wins out for a number of reasons:
1) BKK has a large number "things to do between shags and in the morning" than does GIG..
2) Your overall security is never really in any sort of real danger in BKK (unless you do something stupid which applies equally to BKK & GIG)
3) A larger assortment of women in BKK.. I will say that as far as RANGE of women goes GIG/GRU is bit better
4) Better venues.. While GIG/GRU has the termas, BKK has everything else..

This is, only my opinion.

One note, the ability to speak the native language is a **huge** help in either country and will always boost your YMMV.. I favor BKK personally, but I am also fluent in Thai and this does color my opinion.
