I would definitely go back to Changping. If I were to rate the 3 places I visited in this trip, I would rate Changping #1 for its price & accommodation, Macau #2 for its facilities and variety of girls, and Zhuhai #3.
I would plan my next trip to go to Hong Kong (In my case, New York to Hong Kong direct flight is the cheapest way with continental air) then bus to Changping direct. Then I would, maybe on my return, stop over in Macau to enjoy its nice saunas to relax before coming back.
It was nice trip and I thank all the previous reports and the one who helped me to make necessary reservations.

Thanks for posting your trip report. Like Wicked Willy I want to commend you on so fearlessly taking on one the toughest monger destination to deal with solo and no language skills. I dug how you are resourceful and were able to really scout in the field to try places that others didn't show you or report. Awesome job on working the girls on the fringe, waitresses etc.
Personally I love China as a destination and venue despite it's obvious obstacles. For sure there is a significant portion of the population that is really interested in hooking up and going ith foreigners. Of course, there is another portion that is deadly afraid of the loch ness monster residing in WW pants!
Kudos and I am really happy that this trip worked out well for you. I wish we had more trip reports on the Asia side from places off the well worn hombre path.
Oh yeah for pure mongering CP dwarfs Zhuhai. However, I personally really like the resort kind of feel that town has. Also some awesome eats, shops, and partying there.

It.,
Very detailed report & I like it because you went solo but were resourceful enough to utilize people you met along the way.
Not sure if you speak any Chinese at all or were just winging it with sign language and tramslator. Are you Asian or a "kweilo" as the cantonese will call white foreigners?
You were propositioned by all waitresses. Wow, you mush have been the handsome dream from overseas that they were waiting to take them away to paradise. Kudos to you for making it with that one in bed! Send me her name and mobile telephone number and location (place of work) by PM., I will be there this next weekend and check her out !
Pity I could not take up your offer of accommodation and expenses to wait for you as your schedule was just not right for me to help out. I would have if I could but making sure the "money is in the bank" is still too important to me at this stage of my life!
Believe me, if language is not an issue as is for the Chinese speaking mongers from Singapore, Malaysia, HK and Taiwan, Chang Ping is "paradise on earth"!
Oh lastly, the girls at the Lisboa are still Macau $500 for ST. I know they are asking for $800 of all ofreigners but, its Macau $500 as far as I am concerned and I was just there in November just before you. In the street (walking street) between the Lisboa and the Landmark Hotel, the asking was Macau $500 for ST but I had many agreeing for Macau $ 200. This was those I met at after 1am when the prettier ones do come out on the streets! For my foreign friend, they insisted on at least Macau $300 and the answer why is that they are foreigners! Funny mentality but, it's very Asian!

Although I try to learn some Chinese before I left, basically I do not speak enough Chinese to communicate and it was a quite a challenge, specailly in Changping. Suprisingly I found many people who could speak some English in Zhuhai, whereas in Changping, I could hardly meet someone who can even understand simple word like "go", "water".. even just "ok".
By look, I guess I am more of an Asian than "kweilo". My parents are from both world so I am a Eurasian.
I guess I should've been more patient and check out the freelancer at around 1am and try to negociate with them. If I knew, I could have them for 200-500 HK$ then I could have had even better review about Macau. At 800 HK$ rate, I just thought it was expensive.
Are you heading out there next week? I am planning to get out there from 13th. Maybe we can hook up this time? I did not write the full story but I have few more possibility like the restaurant girl. I was getting all these restaurant girl's mobile number whenever they were hitting me (it all started as my way of getting their attention so I can order better food with their help) but never had time to call some of them.
Once I got back home, I try to call them and although I can not say anything instantly but only prepared sentence like "I come, I see you, We meet. We sleep, etc", they all seem to agree the sleep part and very anxious about I come back to see them. Of course, I could be mistaken and even if I am not, it would be difficult to handle girl friends than paid girls. But so what? It still is happy thing that does not happen where I live.
Remember the part that my restaurant girl telling me story about the my sauna friend should not be trusted? Well, it happended the night when we left her to go to New Centry. To make a long story short, when we got out, the manager girl told me that she is waiting for me. What? how could she.... Well, I guess I told her that I am going there with him. But I did not tell her what I was doing. She seem to know anyway and I am thinking, "well, if I am stuck with her, I can not move freely, so it's good in a way that she is pissed off now". So I tell her about me doing 3. To my surprise, she forgives me after I tell her that I understand that she is angry and she may leave me.
Like you said "Crazier", Chang Ping is "paradise on earth"!
Men~ I could marry the person if I can find someone like that in NY !!

I know that most of the girls in Macau speak Mandarin. Is the same true in Changping?
By Crazier on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 - 07:00 am: Edit |
Yes, "putong hua" is the National Language of China.

Crazier, what I guess I was really trying to find out was whether most of the girls spoke Cantonese (since Changping is in Guangzhou). Although I speak both Mandarin and Cantonese(both pretty badly), my Cantonese is a little better.
I would guess that, like most mongering places in China, the girls are brought in from all over china and are not usually local girls.

CP is in Guangdong Province which is a Cantonese area. All locals would speak the dialect.
A major portion of the WLs are from outside the province so Cantonese will not be their native dialects. If a girl is from a neighbouring province and / or has spent some time in CP, she may pick up the dialect. If she is new, its most unlikely.
In any case, I understand from linguists that Cantonese is the harder of the two to learn as it has 2 "tones" more than Mandarin.

I met this girl from Fujian in Macau who was a country schoolteacher, now hooking. Spoke English pretty well. I took her to dinner (nothing fancy), and the people in the restaurant had a hard time understanding her. They all took turns trying to figure out what she trying to order.

Fujian is very different from Cantonese and Mandarin.
At least between Cantonese and Mandarin, there are some similarities. I believe in Macau, the staff would mostly be speaking Cantonese.
What dialect / language was she speaking?
Most Cantonese people have difficulties learning Fujian dialect and vice versa.

MX,
Not written the China part of my report yet, that is a job I plan for the weekend, but not sure whether I should report on my "Chinese Problem" it was a major embarrasment for me! If it was not for Socrates, Crazier and yourself helping out by explaining my problem, I think I would have been heading back were my "talents" are more appreciated! My last night made things a little better, so I will return, but certainly not on my own!

Updates
=======
Update on Macau (Back in the scene again...)
Went to Darling 1. I don't know why some of report said this is nice place. Unlike Big Boss, there is no place to rest. I felt like I was in Thailand. Exactly same kind of setting. As you walk in, you seat and choose one and go to a room. Even the routine is same once you get to the room. Expensive at 1388 HK$ to start from for any girl.
Lisboa Basement Girl was same at asking 800 HK$. Now I know why other Chinese tourist here ignore them. They are simply overpriced!!! I saw one girl arguing on something with foreign guy on my floor. She had a man next to him (looked like the guy who cares for the girls. He did not look very friendly at all). I did not like the sight and understood how things can get ugly. I don't think I will ever look at them again or even consider.
Outside Lisboa, freelancers were a lot more this time. I can see at least 25-30 and they all run come to you. Must be the competition. Price only 200 HK$. If these girls are 200 HK$ here then I don't see any reason to go to West Girlie Hotel area. They look much better and no hurry.
Took taxi again to Changping from Zhuhai. No stay in Zhuhai this time. Rainning today so I did not care but this driver charge me 500 HK$ only this time. He ran meter all the way and it was something like 430 HK$. The toll one way is 99 HK$ so 300 HK$ for him must have been good enough. From the moment that I check out from Lisboa hotel at 12pm to the checkin to Miraton Hotel in Changping, took exactly 3 hours. That is to take taxi to Macau gate to Zuhai (40 HK$ taxi) then walk pass Macau exit custom, walk again to enter Zhuhai (China) Custom. After exit short walk to taxi area and to Changping. Considering the driver not knowing the Changping area and asking here and there, drive around, I would say it could be easy 2.5 hrs journey from your Macau hotel to Changping hotel.
Update on Changping
Its been less than 24 hours since I got here and already I decided to dump all my restaurant girls. They are just too much attached to the idea and becoming a problem.
By the way, in Miraton hotel, there is this night shift guy (His name is Ren, mobile 13421955850). He can get you anything.
To change US$ to RMB$, go cross the street and turn right and walk pass the McDonald and you will find bank of China. You can get 799 RMB$, at hotel only get you 750 RMB$.
Also note that 18 & 19 floor is non-smoking floor. 19th floor has hard bed so if you like the Western style then ask for 18th floor otherwise you will feel like you are sleeping on the floor. And if the noise from street do not bother you much, then right side (when you get off from the elevator) of the rooms are better lit and view with nothing blocking.
Anyone in the area yet?

Do you need visa for changping?
By Don Marco on Thursday, January 11, 2007 - 11:41 pm: Edit |
yes
By Segue99 on Friday, January 12, 2007 - 12:29 am: Edit |
To further elaborate, Americans (and most others I would assume) need a visa for entry into all parts of China, other than Macau and Hong Kong.
