Spent a few days in Santa Marta after some time in Bogota. It is the time in which many Colombians come from other cities to vacation in Santa Marta.
Lodging: I stayed at the Hotel La Sierra located on Rodadero Beach. Cost was $40 a night. Pretty simple but comfortable. Rodadero is the main tourist and beach area but the city of Santa Marta is just over a hill about 10 minutes or less in taxi. One thing I noticed right when I got there is that there are guys on the beach selling apartment rentals all the time. Apparently they work on commissions, hired by the owners. You can easily find an apartment on Rodadero Beach for as low as $20 a night. There are many more apartment buildings with apartments for rent then hotels.
Getting there: Avianca has flights frequently and from the coastal cities such as Barranquilla and CTG you can catch a bus from any terminal or private charter pretty easily and safely.
I spent most of my time in Rodadero but did check out Santa Marta which has a couple of big malls, night clubs and strip clubs. Most everybody just hangs out on Rodadero Beach all day and night. There are always musicians and groups of Colombian vacationers just dancing and drinking..it's alot of fun.
Night clubs..one cool club in the Rodadero is La Escotera. I might be off on the name but its a club that's got a little lagoon going through it, not far from the beach. Good non pro action there with lots of single babes in groups.

Hey Uno, Well, I only drove through Baq on the way to CTG. Baq is about an hour and a half from Santa Marta and in Santa Marta there are plenty of apartment rentals on Rodadero Beach for about $20. I looked at a one bedroom apartment about a block from the beach and they wanted 50K pesos and this is during high season.

My last four days on this trip were spent in CTG. Here are a few pics of a little spinner I pulled out of LDV. Her name is Sonia. I had been hearing bad things about LDV so I must have gotten lucky with Sonia because she turned out to be a sweetie who provided a great GFE. Spent the night at my apartment for 150k and the next night only charged 40k.
