After my four days in Bogota I went on to Medellin. Medellin is a wonderful modern city with great ambiance and beautiful women. Much has been written along those lines, so I’ll simply say that I concur. I will also say that the whole Mansion/Castillo/VIP scene is really not my speed, and I chose not to stay at any of those places. In fact I stayed at two different places. The first night I tried out an inexpensive and adequate hotel in the center of the city called “Hotel Capitolio.” For 45K COP per evening I got a clean and safe room with hot water and no problem bringing guests back (I didn’t so so, but the desk staff told me it’d not be a problem). It’s a great place to stay low profile, brink your chicas back and save a few bucks in the process. I only stayed one night because I wanted to be in a place where I could connect to the internet to do some work, and also where I could walk around at night. But for a budget monger the Capitolio is a good spot, close to a lot of the street girl action as well.

From there I moved on to a place on Carerra 70, a popular nightlife area in Medellin away from Poblado. “La Setenta” as it is known is home to the futbol stadium as well as some salsa clubs, casinos, etc. I really liked the vibe there and will likely stay there again. My hotel is called Hotel Lukas, and I received a rate of 93,500 COP before taxes. For that price I got a very nice, large, clean room with hot water and wireless internet.

My first night in Medellin I went to Club San Diego. I ordered a half bottle of rum with some cokes for about 50K, and after watching the show for a while asked the waiter to bring over a chica with long, straight black hair, light skin and obviously fake (although well-done) breasts. Her name in the club is Isabella, and upon her arrival to my table I found her to be quite personable. We chatted about music, her child, the Colombian economy…nothing too deep. A song came on that she really liked and so she asked me to dance, which was cool. I was interested in taking her back with me and inquired about the take-out fee. They quoted me 300K pesos, at which I laughed. I thought they were kidding, but they would not come off of that number. There were a lot of guys there that night, and I guess they thought I’d be happy to pay the idiot gringo price. So I told Isabella that I wasn’t interested and that she could move on if she wanted. She instead told me that she really wanted to be with me, blah blah blah, and that we could get an hour on-site for 150K, room included. I was tired from traveling, really liked this chic and went for it.

Isabella turned out to be well worth it. Very orgasmic (faked it anyway), willing to try out all sorts of different stuff, etc. I really liked her and ended up taking her number to hang out some time. If I were to spend more time in Medellin I’d want to take her for a longer period of time.

As a side note, I am much less inclined to go back to Club San Diego at any point in the future. I understand the initial gringo price offering, as I am a gringo and those who don’t educate themselves deserve to be ripped off. But it was a ridiculous price, and their unwillingness to budge really surprised me. I could even understand it if they had a good vibe that night, with a lot of guys buying drinks and so on, and couldn’t afford to kill the buss by losing one of the few hot girls in the place. But just level with me if that were the case, instead of trying to pass it off like that’s the going rate for a salida. Annoying.

Anyway, I got into a taxi and headed back to Hotel Capitolio for a good night’s sleep. The next day I moved on to Hotel Lukas, went to the gym, dropped off my laundry and did some work. I also realized that I was about two blocks away from Cassandras, a casa on which Cubanut had recently posted some good words and very nice pictures. So I went by there, but nobody answered the door. I called the phone number but nobody answered that either, so I decided to go elsewhere. New Life sounded like a good option, and so I jumped into a taxi and off we went. New Life was back towards El Centro, and was a fairly clean and very inexpensive spot at 50K for an hour, everything included. I chose Michelle, a tall paisa with nice-sized hips and a pretty smile. She gave me a really good time as well.

Later that night I went to Parque Lleras for some dinner. I found a really good sushi place there, and after dinner went to a little outdoor café/bar type of place with a Cuban theme, including cigars. I had a cuba libre, a cigar and chatted with the Cuban born owner for a while. He was a good guy and it’s a nice place to hang out.

From there I went on to Face Dos, and in about 2 minutes had found two buddies, Pamela and Karen, from my trip last April. Pamela is the sister of Andrea and the friend of Jessica, two very pretty girls that AZGuy had photographed and written about some time ago. Turns out that both Andrea and Jessica are 8 months pregnant and out of work for the time being. So I hung out with Pamela and Karen for a while, and also ran into Alexa (Lexi). Lexi is a really good dancer with a decent face and body who always performs to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.” I made arrangements to meet up with Lexi later on that evening, and continued to chat with Pamela and Karen over a bottle of rum. Face Dos is an okay place with some good looking women, but is way to much of a monger factory for my tastes. Lots of gringos, lots of “Mansionistas” (defined as guy staying at the Mansion, Castillo or any other turnkey monger B&B), lots of hardcore pros, high prices, etc.

Later that evening Lexi showed up at my hotel, and we went at it like animals. She is a fantastic example of the principle that a 7 with a great attitude and performance is always much more worthwhile than a 9 or 10 who acts like a dead fish. In my years as a hobbyist I’ve become adept at weeding the bad-attitude girls out of the mix, and am always happy to go away with a girl like Lexi over 99% of the girls at a place like Face Dos.

So, the next day I did some work, went to the gym (found a great gym by the way, called Forma Fitness) and to the mall. In the late afternoon hourse I decided to try on Cassandras again, as it was so close. This time they were there and I got to meet Lily, the manager/hostess of the place. Wow, she was pretty cool. I really enjoyed chatting with her, and I have to concur with Cubanut’s comments that in this house they like you to hand out and take your time getting comfortable. There were three girls there at the time, and I really don’t remember the name of the one I took but she was pretty, nice bubble-butt (I like that) and super attitude. All for 70K. I think the way to go here is to be personable and relaxed, and develop a friendship with Lily through some small talk. I really appreciated the treatment I got and have to say that it’s about the best daytime, lower-priced casa that I’ve ever been to.

Later that evening I wasn’t in the mood to straight-up monger. So I called this guy Victor, who AZguy and Sniper had previously mentioned was a good resource in Medellin. Victor grew up in the U.S. moved back to Medellin with his family and now goes to the university down there. He is a really nice guy and a pleasure to hang out with, but more on that in a moment. Victor had to work the next day and wasn’t up for hanging out, but we made plans to meet the following day.

So the next day I did the usual work/gym/mall routine, and in the late afternoon decided to check out Loutrons. This is a higher-end place…more of a compound than a casa. They clearly cater to the upper-class Colombian gentleman as well as tourist. I’d have to call the place classy. The lineup of girls was top-notch, and I chose Maria Jose for an hour at 170K. Well worth it, this girl had a cute face, an amazing body and was fun as could be. She was not the most attractive girl in the lineup, but was very cute (you’d absolutely look twice if you walked by her on the street) and what I really liked was that she smiled at me during the introduction. She had this look in her eye like she wanted to be chosen, and through her body language gave me the sense that she’s be into spending some time with me. I really liked that.

So later that evening I hung out with Victor. We met up, got some dinner and chatted about Medellin. I’m not generally one to utilize the services of a guide, but Victor’s deal is that he isn’t just a guy who’ll show you where to find hookers. He is a very subtle, very courteous younger guy who knows a lot about how to navigate the city. That includes developing strategies on ho to approach non-pros at malls, discos, etc. He can either be your wingman and give you the nudge you need to go talk to a girl, or he can help you make the introduction and (if you need it) perform the translations. We ended up becoming pals, and later on that weekend we had a good chat about what services he’s be interested in providing to tourists. I’ll provide additional details on that in the Nuts & Bolts section of this report.

Victor and I proceeded to check out parquet Lleras, the bars on La Setenta, and finally to Mangos. Mangos is a famous disco in Medellin, with a variety of music, performers, oddities like dancing midgets, and overall a pretty good party atmosphere. Victor and I ended up latching on with a group of students from another university in Medellin. They were all really nice and I enjoyed dancing my ass off. I exchanged contact info with one girl from that group, and I think we’ll remain buddies.

The next day was more of the same. Victor and I planned on meeting up later, along with some buddies of his and some girls he knows. The girls were okay but not great. This is an important point; Victor is not a straight-up pimp! He’s a college student, and the girls he knows and hangs out with are pretty normal girls. Some of them would be interested in meeting new guys (gringos like us as I cam to discover), but they’re not prepagos and would require some romancing. Either way I was just having fun and enjoyed the time out. Later that night (about 2:00 AM or so) I went to Cassandras again. Hung out, took a girl who provided me good service once again, and went to my hotel to sleep.

The next day was Sunday, and my last day in Medellin. I did the usual work/gym/mall thing, and ended up talking to a really beautiful store clerk in the Tesoro mall. Pissed me off that I didn’t have more time in Medellin because this girl was about 22, well-spoken and stunning. Later that day I watch the Nacional vs Medellin futbol game and hung out again with Victor and pals. If you’re going to call Victor and use him as a guide, you should establish up front things like whether you are looking to hang out in a crowd, or if you’re looking to keep it more low-profile. All of Victor’s friends were really cool, but if you’re inviting them out you’ll be expected to pick up the tab. I wasn’t hanging out with 10 of them or anything, and it really wasn’t a problem for me. Just keep that in mind and be clear up front with Victor.

i appreciated the nice play by play and new hotel ideas for mde. I couple of years ago, i didn't go the route of staying at the mansion because i'm more of an independent type and also because i didn't want to be labeled a mansionista and all the negatives (if any) that may potentially come along with that label.

Glad you liked the Lukas and la Setenta. I usually don't even go to casas. So I wasn't aware of Cassandra's. Since it's in the neighborhood, I'll have to give it a try.

Did you notice the Catholic university at the far end of la Setenta? The university and the Estadio metro stop bookend la Setenta. I'm hoping that the university will become my never-ending supply of fun.

Speaking of prepagos, I have been told that over half of the hot 18 to 30-year-olds in MDE are willing, under the right circumstances, to earn a few extra pesos for that new blouse.

I'm not sure if I would agree with that statistic. I found that the non-pros of MDE are pretty tough to crack. Almost impossible if you are a tourist.

Good to see you used Victor. He had no clue about this board until AZGuy and I talked to him about it.

He's a good guy but you need to be clear to him what you are looking for. Also, he is fearless about approaching and talking to girls for you. A matter of fact, he made a few dates for me with girls I wouldn't approach. I'm not much of a mall dweller, so it was a difficult place for me to try to pickup girls.

No problem with Victor around.

Sniper, there was an article in El tiempo about 2.5 years ago, they said that approx half of un-married girls up to 25 in Medellin were being paid for sex.

Personnely I think the figure is probably closer to 75%, most of these girls would only be by recomendation, you aren't going to pick them up wandering around willy nilly, allthough there will still be plenty that can be picked up by wandering around.

I have heard closer to 75% as well. Since I can't yet really speak from personal experience, I used the over half number. That in no way means that even half will be receptive to an "hola" on the street. You have to be properly introduced. The money can be very subtle. She may not even mention her "needs" until the deed is done.

Gentlemen, thanks for the feedback. Socrates, there is nothing inherently good nor bad about being a Mansionista. It simply is what it is. I stayed at El Castillo a year ago, made some friends and had some fun. I simply think that, having had the experience, it's not 100% my speed.

Interesting discourse on the percentage of non-pros that would turn a trick when give the right set of circumstances. I'd imagine that no scientific study has ever been done, but the point is there are a lot of them who would. That's great input, so thanks.

I met a Paisa at a restaurant in Boca Grande. She was with another chica and 4 Colombianos. I wound up with the 7 of us back at my apartment. I tried everything to get into A's pants. The Colombianos made it clear that it was okay with them if I fucked her. No go. I ran into her several months later. We made a date for that night, discussed price up front, and consummated our deal.

Another girl who I met through an amiga has a Gringo boyfriend. But she feels that she needs a little extra money. She stops by my place maybe once every other week or so. As far as I know, she only fucks her boyfriend and me. Of course I know that when I am not in town, she will find another me. She may even have replaced me because she knows that I'm moving to MDE next week.

If you’re in San Diego and you haven't been there before, then the ladies will try their luck. If you have an apartment, they will come back to yours in the daytime and usually spend a few hours with you.

Met Lexi about year and a half ago, cool girl and good fun to hang out with.

The non pro scene is alive and well in Medellin as long as you are fluent in Spanish and have a little charm. At least that's my experience. We were approached in the clubs and bars around Parke lleras. I was lucky enough to meet one lady off myspace there and she was cool. We went out and partied with her friends.

I've met many gringos that have moved there and they are now taking courses at the universities. Not only is their Spanish getting better, but they have met some great girls with good attitudes too.

We are starting to carry a bit of a bad reputation and some non-pros (at least some of the good ones) are avoiding Gringos like the plague.

Actually, I think that Medellin is going to be what it is going to be regardless of what we do or do not do. If anyone chooses to judge me based on the behavior of another, that is his/her problem. There certainly are some asshole Gringos, but there are just as many asshole Colombians percentage-wise.

And I don't mind a bit if some chicas avoid me because I am a Gringo. I can't handle them all anyway.

I don't think Medellin will become another Rio or Costa Rica etc. Hunter is correct people would want to retire by the sea.

I have had the good fortune to spend time with most of the local Gringos in Medellin and they are on the whole very laid back and not there purely for mongering.

It is important I think to be able to speak a good level of Spanish if you intend to move there and so that will hinder some people.

It is true that some ladies there are a little wary of Gringos because they make assumptions of why they are living in Medellin.

It is generally frowned upon to bring hoards of young girls back to your apartment on a regular basis by the neighbors.

In the last year or two there has been more people moving there. When I first started going there people were very surprised to see a young blonde blue eyed chap there. Now it is no longer uncommon.

There is also the major fear factor of living in Colombia and this has stopped many people even coming to Medellin, let alone move there.

There is no Del Ray in Medellin and the mongering is not on a plate like in Rio (Help disco).

More people will move here, but only in small amounts compared to other destinations. Maybe in the future it will become popular, but I believe that Cartegena will be where most people will wish to live (being by the sea).

Since this is my first time in Colombia I am staying at the Mansion while in Mde. But in Cali I'll be more adventerous and will be staying in a hotel off Ave Sexta. Take care.
