I collected my clothes the next morning. All were according to specification. I love having shirts made in Bangkok. My shirts from two and four years earlier are still in great shape. Best of all, the collars still stand up – as opposed to the Mexx shirt I sent through the wash once and the collars fell like a 70’s leisure suite. If you go to Bangkok and don’t get fitted for half a dozen shirts, you’re loosing out on one of the best deals ever.

When Spicy woke up, I gave her some items I had left over from my last trip, namely some rather hot attire I had acquired. I had her model them for me. Afterward we had a bit of breakfast in bed.

I wouldn’t kick her out of bed for eating crackers.

… but if she brings chips she’s fucked.

She spent considerable time trying to convince me that she knows I’m married and have children back home (not even close to true). She went so far as to draw a picture of me and what she imagined my wife to look like. Although she was not an artist, she did a remarkably good job. What is most interesting is that she drew my imagined wife as having a flip style hairdo and lots of curves. Ah, Spicy, you do not know my tastes at all. I doubt I convinced her I was totally single, but there was little I could do.

After getting organized, we grabbed a cab to the Royal Palace, another site she’d never seen. As we were approaching the entrance, touts had the nerve to tell me the palace was closed. We’re watching people go in and out and this blighter is telling me we can’t go in! I was tempted to lead him on, but I was more interested in getting inside.

I had to pull long pants over my shorts. I tried to get them to give me a sarong so I could go Burmese style, but they didn’t understand. We toured the palace then walked over to the temple of the reclining Buddha. From there, it was a tuk-tuk (reasonably priced) ride to MBK plaza for supper.

I let spicy pick the restaurant. She spent nearly forty-five minutes dashing from place to place, unable to find the one she wanted. I was getting a bit tired of this and told her to pick one already. She settled on <groan> Chinese. I mean, the one food you can be sure of finding everywhere in the world, the most common eatery on the planet … never mind, I was hungry and this was our last meal together.

I picked one thing I liked and asked her to order as much as she wanted. She picked three dishes including one she insisted was delicious, but I just couldn’t bring myself to eat. I mean, I’ve had silk works, crickets, ants and even a big-ass hairy spider, so I’m not exactly shy when it comes to weird comestibles. I’d heard of duck feet before, but had imagined them as something very different from the webbed feet sitting in the bowl before me. I just couldn’t bring myself to eat this delicacy (delicacy for her, anyway).

Spicy had to go to work, so I said good-bye to her at the sky train. I did a bit more looking around and took a moto to Chaopraya I. My first hours in Bangkok were pleasantly spent getting clean, I figured I should go out with a clean bang as well! The soapy was adequate – I still long for Nu in Hat Yai though.

My bath is prepared.

I checked my watch and did some calculating - I had enough time to pick up a pint of ice-cream from MBK. They packed it with dry ice for me. I took a moto back to the hotel, grabbed my bags and it was off to the airport.

I arrived plenty early so there was time to make full use of the Thai lounge – heaven, total heaven. The best part was spent having a few gin tonics in the computer lounge. You see, after I finished the ice-cream, I had a small bag of dry ice. I’d break off a chunk and drop it in my drink, the mist pouring over the rim of the glass. I actually had a few individuals ask me what I was drinking and how they could get one. Heh, heh, heh.

Soaked with gin, I managed to get to my plane and fell asleep before we took off. I love midnight flights.
