Traveling with the Pope in SEA
On this trip to LOS a non mongering friend joined me for my travels. He made it clear to me that he had no intention of indulging in the full range of pleasures that Thailand and Cambodia had to offer, thus I dubbed him the Pope. If you are not going to get laid you might as well make a religion out of it and if you are going to make a religion out of it you might as well be the top dog. I was looking forward to traveling with the Pope we had seen a bit of the world together before his ill fated marriage, and now that he was almost single again he seemed ready to start enjoying life again.
We left for Bangkok on Thai Airlines on 22nd February I had arranged to be upgraded to business class for the 11 hour flight, but like usual the Royal Thai Trade Mission had messed up and it took over an hour to sort the problem out. We where upgraded but only one way and had no time to enjoy the business class lounge before our flight was called. The flight was uneventful and with the fully reclining seats went quickly. We arrived in Bangkok transferred to our flight to Phuket and arrived in Phuket at 9.20.
Our hotel pick up was waiting for us and we got to the Absolute Sea Pearl Beach Resort by 10.30 the hotel seemed nice but our rooms where not ready, a problem that would plague us at most hotels through out our trip. When we finally checked in two problems emerged, one the rooms where not sea facing and they would have to move us to new rooms the next day and secondly a BHT900 joining fee! I was not a happy camper. After a quick SSS we went out to see a little of the town. At first blush I prefer Pattaya to Phuket ( or fuck-it as I prefer to call it) there is no Walking Street or Baht Bus’s and as the evening wore on NO girls. There were bars even beer bars but there was a wonton lack of female companionship. The beer bars were deserted, a Sahara of working girls, old lobster-red, grey haired couples had invaded and driven the lovelies out, and not a “hello, welcome” to be heard.
In the evening we went to Suwit Gym to see some Thai Boxing, what a rip off, over priced lack luster performances. No locals watching or betting on the bouts a sure sign of things to come. It ran from 8pm to about 11 but it felt like we had been sitting there for a week on the way back to the hotel I looked in vain for some go-go bars or beer bars worth checking out. The curse of the pope had struck and not for the last time.
I have often written on CH based on past experience, that you can always find a decent quality if somewhat small quantity of girls in Phuket, This trip it was most not the case and as I woke on my second day in LOS at an obscenely early hour I realized my mongering would have to wait. This morning we headed out to Phi Phi Island. It is located just 48 km to the east of Phuket, off the western coastline of Southern Thailand in the Andaman Sea. I have been here before but my last trip was before the Tsunami hit, I guess if you haven’t been there before the warning and evacuation signs would be your only clue that something had happened but it’s still not back to were it was before the disaster. I watched them unload a shipment of palm trees, it seems everything has to be imported for the restoration of the island and I guess that’s why it is taking so much time, but then again they are light years ahead of the repair efforts New Orleans. Much to my surprise I found myself enjoying the excursion. I gave up SCUBA diving about 10 years ago and I am not much of a beach person. I guess it’s because every time I fall asleep on a beach those assholes from Green Peace turn up and try and roll me back into the ocean.
We where on a tight timetable and the Pope wanted to get as much done as possible so that evening we went to the FantaSea show. It’s so over the top that I have to recommend it. It’s like a Las Vegas show with a distinctively Thai flavor.
After a few drinks at the bar across from the hotel we headed back to the hotel but after a half an hour of TV I decided to see if I could find some action, even if it meant paying the BHT900 joining fee. I took a Tuk-Tuk to Bang-La Road walked up to Ratuthit Rd. and started walking back towards the hotel it was around 2 in the morning and the town was a morgue. I headed back to the hotel dejected and alone.
On day three we took a speed boat to James Bond Island this for me was more of a scenic boat ride then the trip to Phi Phi Island and we stopped at a Muslim floating village for lunch.
The tour got back at about 5pm and I needed a nap. By now I had given up all hope of getting laid in Phuket and the Pope wanted to try one of those Sea food dinners that made Phuket famous or infamous. I took him to a little, by weight places behind the Thai boxing ring on Thanachat off Hao Patong Rd. The food was good but as we walked back passed the empty bar bars I felt a little dejected. Was the curse of the Pope going to result in a monger-less trip?

Nice clean, good size rooms decent staff and better then average breakfast. Well located but the BHT900 joining fee a real problem. Sea facing deluxe room, in season, BHT3200.00pn not bad for Phuket.
We had a relaxing morning and headed for the Airport about 11 allowing an hour to get to the airport and an about an hour and a half before the flight.
Phnom Penh
We arrived in Phnom Penh late in the evening, the lines at the Airport where long and moved slowly but luckily we had e-visas which have there own row, I have to recommend the Cambodian e-visa it is really hassle free. We checked into the hotel and at about 9.30 Ben wee our guide turned up and we headed out to the Ponlok Restaurant for dinner it is on the river and the food was great and prices reasonable I highly recommend the place. ( Tel 012806732 No. 323Voie Sisowat Sagkat Chety Chumneas) after that Ben gave us a quick confusing night tour of the city and we stopped at the infamous Martini Pub, Casino Royal was playing on the big screen and we settled down at the bar near the pool tables. The place was what a mongers bar should be, lots of expats and some sweet Cambodian girls hanging around. As the night wore on none of the girls that approached me were even vaguely my taste and the one or two that I liked made them selves unapproachable. We headed into the disco for a wile but without any luck. However the Popes hard line stance was beginning to crack, reality was beginning to creep in and his preconceived notions of mongering and they were not standing up to the reality. However his first attempt at picking up a working girl was a little bizarre, he sat at the bar trying to “think” her over to him, rather then just call her over. He seemed convinced that if he thought about her enough she would succumb to his psychic vibe. It was now just a matter of time before he came over to the dark side. Hee hee hee.
I asked Ben to take use to a place where we could meet some Vietnamese girls, he seemed reluctant but eventually said he would take us to a street he claimed would be full of girls but when we got there it was like a ghost town and Ben refused to stop or slow down, even when touts approached the car. When we got back to the hotel Ben said that the next morning he had to say goodbye to a client and another driver would pick us up for our tours. I reminded Ben that in our emails we had agreed that he, not one of his flunkies would be our guide. He assured me that it would only be for an hour or two and that he would then take over our tour. With that he said good night and that was the last we saw of the less then impressive Ben Wee.
The next morning we did an all day tour a round to see Wat Phnom, Palace, National Museum, What Ounalome, Toulsleng, did some shopping and the Killing Fields. The killing fields affected me deeply but our driver was next to useless every time he finished seeing a sight he wanted to take us back to the hotel would not suggest any sights worth seeing. I asked him where Ben was and his unconvincing excuse was the Ben was “sick”. This useless driver took us to a lousy restaurant for lunch and every time he stopped he would say where to now? I would say “your town, you show us” he would shake his head and I would have to tell him to take us to some where out of a tour book, He wouldn’t act as a guide and would simply drop us off and leave us to fend for ourselves. Everything he did seemed like a hardship. Not what I expected.
In the evening we headed to a decent restaurant on the river and then to Sharky. Sharky is on the second floor of what, at night, looks like a pretty run down building but when you walk into the bar you feel you have arrived I instantly liked it more then Martini Pub, but that is a very subjective option, it’s a big open plan place with flags hanging from the wall and fells a little out of place, more suited to a low budget Vietnam flick. The bar prices are fair and the food looked edible and the staff where very friendly but even in my diminished state I couldn’t find anything worth getting to know better. The Pope fell in lust with a bar maid who couldn’t or wouldn’t be bar fined, but he spent the whole evening buying her drinks and chatting away with her, in all fairness she was about the cutest thing there. There was a sad sense, was I ever that inept. He was still trying charm where we all know money works much better. As he chattered up the unattainable bar maid I kept searching the room for something worth taking home for the night, maybe we where there to early or to late but we both stumbled out at about 1.30am disheartened a dateless.
The next morning we took the 7am Boat to, Siem Reap a five hour trip, well worth it.
I have to say that Phnom Penh had failed to impress and although I was happy that I had seen it I don’t feel any urge to head back although with a half way decent guide it could have been a totally different experience.
A quick hotel revue
Very, very basic, small unappetizing breakfasts no buffet, a small al a carte service only. Nice roof bar, lousy bathrooms. The hotel is very rundown and shabby. No joining fee and small rooms with no view. The mattresses felt like they pre dated Phol Pot. The room rate is US$30 a night for the deluxe room. I have to believe that there is something better out there.

Siem Reap
The boat ride was fun as the Pope slept I chatted with a retired Israeli long shore man and sat on the deck watching the world go by. The arrival in Siem Reap about five hours later was the most hectic part of the trip as we where set upon by touts, taxi and tuk-tuk drivers as well as venders selling a mighty array of items. It seemed that the only person not at the dock was our guide, recommended and confirmed by Ben Wee, Mr. John. So after a wait we arranged a taxi to the hotel. I guess we where very luck because our taxi driver turned out to be a top notch guide. He sat in the hotel with us arranging our plans and making suggestions for about an hour then headed off to give us a chance to check in SS&S and get a bite to eat. On our way back to the hotel from lunch we ran into Mr. John’s associate, I guess that Mr. John had taken a leaf from Ben Wee’s book and didn’t do anything himself. When I told him we had found another guide it got quite ugly but eventually he got the message and sulked off. In the afternoon we visited the war museum and in the evening we saw the sunset at Pnom Bakheng before heading out to dinner and hitting a few bars.
Mr. Khus was not much of a mongering guide but he did his best and we hit a few bars and clubs but we couldn't go to bed too late because we had a 4.30am wake up call. We headed back to the hotel and the Pope headed up to his room to sleep the sleep of the innocent I had a different plan and headed out to Top Town where I had met Samma last trip. I saw Mr. Mike the manager who gave me his card last time, and greeted him like a long lost brother much to his surprise and headed into the fish bowl, Samma was there but didn’t seem to remember me. I was heartbroken but decided to drown my sorrows in the ample bosom of Lee, Lee smiled at me as soon as I entered the fish bowl there was only about a dozen girls under glass and she would have been my first choice anyway but I waited a few moments before making my final selection. I had already decided but I asked Mr. Mike conspiratorially “number 36, any good?” he gave her an enthusiastic endorsement. I cursed myself for forgetting my camera at the hotel. Lee was tall for a Cambodian girl and had almost Indian features except for her light skin and long mousy brown hair. She had a ready smile and better then average English I wish I had taken time to get to know her a little better but the hour was late and I was on a mission. She was very enthusiastic within limitations and I had a great session, I headed back to the hotel with a smile on my dial. Last time with Guide fees, driver’s fees, tips and girl fees I had spent almost US$80 this time US$20 for the Lee, US$5 tip, US$5 for Mr. Mike and the same for the driver. I still think at US$25.00 I might have over paid, but I wasn’t complaining.
We started the tour at 5:00 am. to see sunrise at Angkor Wat. Having seen both the sun rise and the sun set, the sun set is better but at lease at sun rise there are fewer people and you get to see Angkor before the tourist invade.
Then we visited the South Gate (visiting the giant 4 faces of the gate) then Banteay Srei (beautiful and intimate 10th century temple built of pink sandstone), Banteay Samre and east Mebon . You have to see these places words and pictures don't do them justice.
In the evening we headed to the night market where the Pope bought a few gifts for friends and family and then on to one of those dance buffets, it wasn’t bad but I was wrecked and falling asleep into my nameless desert. The Pope was at a loss to figure out why I was so tired and suggested that maybe I had a little heat stroke, he could have been right or it might have been the fact that I had only two hours sleep the night before. But Mr. Khus had done a little research on the mongering seen and had a few new places to show us, so I dragged my tired ass around a few clubs but the pickings where slim and I was way to tired to be horny.
On our last day in Siem Reap we visited Bayon ( 54 towers with 216 faces of Buddha ), Terrace of the Elephants, Terrace of the Leper King , Phimean Akas, Baphoun,Ta Prohm ( Giant roots of tree on the temple's structure ). We even did the hot air balloon over Siem Reap, which I have to recommend although I am dead scared of heights. (US$15.00)
I paid our guide US$100.00 plus $20.00 for petrol for the three days I know some of you might think that that is a bit much but he continually made suggestions, was always helpful and never complained even when we kept him up way past his bed time.
A quick hotel revue
I can’t recommend this great hotel enough. Fantastic staff, good breakfast, nice pool and well located in a quite street just over the bridge from the night market. It is a modern new hotel with a lot of Cambodian charm. No hassles with the check in or check out and as far as I could find out no joining fee. At US$30pn the hotel is a great deal.

Chiang Mai
We arrived quite late in the evening and once again our rooms where not ready. They tried to put the Pope in a room with two single beds which was totally unacceptable and the next morning had to move him to another floor. More then a little frustrated with the hotel the Pope dubbed the hotel the Porn Palace. After taken our luggage to the rooms we headed out to the night bazaar and have a bite to eat.
The 3rd May was a festival day and we head out with our new found best friend Mr. Black an elderly Taxi driver who hangs out outside the Porn Plaza. A very colorful old gent that seems to know his way around, first stop the temples (Wats), The mountain top Doi Suthep temple, was the highlight even though the Pope made me take the over 306 steps to the top. There is a cable car but the Pope was a temple traditionalist and insisted on doing everything the hard way, after all the Pope does not want to be upstaged by Buddha.
In the evening I wanted to see a little action and got a Tuk-Tuk driver to take us to the go-gos and Beer Bars on Loi Kroh Road although they where in easy walking distance of the hotel, The Popes curse struck again everywhere was closed thanks to the festival and after a few drinks and a foot massage we dejectedly headed back to the hotel.
The next morning we left at 7.30am for the essential Northern Thailand experience. Includes a visit to a Karen Long Neck settlement to see some of the world famous Karen Long Neck Ladies. The highlight for Pope was the Elephant Ride through the forest to a Lisu village and the watch an Elephant Show.
We also float down a river for an hour aboard a Bamboo Raft where the Pope got to play guide and visited an Orchid and butterfly farm. In the evening we headed to the Night Bazaar again. Had dinner at one of the restaurants near the Vieng Ping Night Bazaar
Chiang Mai in March is cooler then BKK or the Thai coast which makes walking around the market at night a pleasure. The day had been long and without a fellow monger to encourage me and in the sure knowledge that the curse of the Pope would strike me down if I even tried to find some female company dejectedly headed back to the hotel in the sure knowledge that we would be heading to Pattaya next and there my Mo Jo would be stronger then the Pope’s, or would it?
We did a little shopping in the morning before heading for the airport courtesy of Mr. Black.

Very old world and a little run down with staff that make the Nana’s look down right friendly , great buffet breakfast. Nice roof bar with great views of the city, OK bathrooms. No joining fee. The rooms where a nice size and have decent views, but the TV had very limited channels. The room rate is US$30 a night for the deluxe room. We went past a few hotels that seemed to offer better deals.
Pornping Tower Hotel (Porn Palace as it was dubbed by the Pope)

Pattaya
We where back in my part of Thailand again and in need of a break from the incessant touring. The plan was just visited some of my old haunts have some great Mexican and Cajun food and spent the nights visiting the bars on Walking St.
After we checked in the day was spent trying to find a Bangkok Bank to make a deposit for one of the Thai girls working in SA. She had told me that there was one at Big C. I eventually gave up looking and sms’ed her to arrange for it to be collected from the Hotel.
In the evening I took the pope to Tequila Reef Cantina on Soi 7 for dinner it was not up to its usual standard, thinking of it seems to have steadily gone down over the past few years, but still an OK place. After dinner the Pope had his first taste of Walking Street.
We started with the show at AW, which is still not up to the standard of the one at AW BKK and then we took a slow walk down walking street stopping at living dolls, happy a go-go and many more. It was an experience watching the Popes reaction, he had made it very clear that this was the part of the trip he was dreading, strictly a concession to me and my weak immoral ways, imagine his surprise then he discovered himself having a good time and actually enjoying himself. Although by this time the Popes resolve was weakened it had not totally cracked that would have to wait until tomorrow. There were plenty of girls around but the Pope’s Mo Jo was still working and keeping them at bay. So at about one we took the Baht bus back to the hotel, the pope went to bed to sleep the sleep of the innocent for one last time and I headed off to world a go-go on beach road. I sat down and ordered a Jack on the rocks, without the Pope there to mess with my Mo Jo I cute girl name Kim joined me and we where well into the interview by the time my drink arrived. BHT2000 including bar fine and we where out of there, in the moon light she looked a little older then she had in the club, but still very acceptable. She was a giggler which was quite endearing in the club but not exactly great encouragement in the sack besides from that little problem it was a pleasant session It was supposed to be a short time but she stayed the night. The next morning’s session was interrupted by the Pope giving me a wake up call.
After a quick shower and getting rid of Kim, the Pope and I took the boat to Koh Larn, is a large island a few kilometers off Pattaya. I had never been there before and I was pleasantly surprised, it was as nice as any of the Islands off Phuket but it lacks the vistas and rocky outcrops. But for swimming and sitting on the beach drinking beer and people watching it is a fun way to spend the day, we stayed on Ta Waen Beach. Next time I would like to explore the island a little more. We took the 9am boat and returned at 4pm, the trip wasn’t bad and the boat was quite festive, not a bad outing for BHT150 compared to the BHT1800 for the trip to Phi Phi Island.
After we got back we headed to the big C to do a little shopping. As those who have visited Pattaya will know, the Big C is right across the road from Sabai Dee and it was time for the Pope to be introduced to the art of the soapy.
The Popes first time at a fish bowl was a surreal experience to watch, he sat in the booth nervously chugging his Heineken, with bulging eyes, sweating and chewing his fingers until they literally bled there wasn’t the greatest selection but I was convinced that if we left Sabai Dee I would never get the Pope within a 100meters of a soapy again to help him with his dilemma chose I chose Lin a real buxom cutey with a ready smile and passable English. When I told her that the Pope was a soapy virgin she insisted on helping and the pressure on the Pope mounted. The poor guy was almost a nerves wreck.
This is a guy who makes decisions for an international company on a daily basis and he was cracking under the stress, eventually he chose Meow, a lady who was not his usual taste. Now here is the quagmire, I had sessioned with Meow on a previous occasion ( check my past trip reports) she is not the best, but if I say anything to the Pope he will take it as a sign from a high power and decide to opt out and do the 100 meter dash, if I say nothing his first soapy is not going to be great. So what do you do? I decide to say nothing in the knowledge that a less then excellent soapy is better then no soapy. Did I o the right thing? Only time would tell.
My soapy with Lin was great and I will session with her if the opportunity arises again. She had a great body and a lovely way about her. She is very sexy and extremely comfortable in her sexuality, reminiscent of a Terma girl from Rio…almost.
Photos: Lin 01 02
I arrived back at the fishbowl and the Pope was already there, the giant grin on his face was all the proof that I need that I had done the right thing. He was alone, Meow was back in the fishbowl and he excitedly told me about his session that was marred by Meow continuously asking for more money which was the same problem I had when I sessioned with her, but for a first time it didn’t seem to go that badly and more importantly the Pope had lost his mongering cherry after only 12 days in Paradise, hopefully the curse was lifted.
Photo: Meow 03
In the evening we went to see the Tiffany Show, it was the Popes idea and I have been to Pattaya more then 10 times now and have never seen the Tiffany Show it was a little to camp for my taste there where some entertaining parts but they where few and far between. On stage was the crème della crème of the lady boy fraternity and if you where not paranoid before about your ability to spot a lady boy at a hundred meters you would be afterwards. In a way the show is just plain scary.
We had dinner at the Russian Restaurant at the end of walking street I don’t eat pork, but the Pope was born in the USSR and he loved the food. Good Old Russian food like comrade mother used to make. We stopped at a few bars, visited Sio7’s bars and did the rounds. The Pope was still bathing in the afterglow of his first soapy, which was a big step for the guy. He was walking around like a giant weight had been taken off his shoulders and for the first time he should a genuine interest in the mechanics of Mongering, asking practical questions about bar fines, short and long times, GFE’s and how to make sure she is a she. The obvious inclination was to fuck with his mind but I resisted and tried to answer his questions as accurately as I could. From a guy who three weeks before had never seen a “doable” Thai lady, he now seemed to have a plethora of opportunities, the temptation was, of course, to tell him that every girl he liked was a lady boy but once again I should great restraint, perhaps I should change my name to the saint.
The next day we had a laid back, relaxing do nothing, sit by the pool day. I guess that the one of the first signs of the emergence of the mongering jean is a diminished desire to fuck up your day touring and save your energy for the evenings. We had lunch at sizzlers, salad buffet for BHT138, I know some of the more discerning pallets on the site don’t like sizzlers but after a heavy night out on walking street the soup, fruit and salad are a great deal.
In the evening I suggested the New Orleans Restaurant across the road from the Penthouse for dinner. My dinner was nice if a little expensive but the Popes Jambalaya had little resemblance to anything either of us had ever seen in the Big Easy. After dinner and hitting a few go-go’s I took the Pope to Secrets, my favorite place of the moment. Some of you might remember that I had my birthday bash there last year and was very impressed with the place. I hadn’t taken the Pope there before out of an irrational fear that the curse of the Pope would strike again in some evil and unforeseen way, but now that his evil Mo Jo had been all but destroyed at the soapy I thought he could do no more harm. I was pleasantly surprised when Mamma San and some of the girls greeted me by name it also impressed the hell out of the Pope. Rin the lady from my birthday bash bounded over (she is not a small girl) and seemed genuinely pleased to see me, either that or she was doing a course on how to do a tonsillectomy only using her tongue. One of her friends joined us and sat shyly next to the Pope. He informed my that she was not his type and he really wanted to get to know one of the dancers better, but as the evening wore on he became totally besotted with S and by two in the morning was ready to bar fine her. I was so proud, much like an eagle who watches his young leave the nest for the first time. I bar fined Rin and we headed back to the hotel. Rin is great fun and we had one hell of an evening together, I was not at all surprised when the Popes usual 7am wake up call never materialized and after I sent Rin on her way at 11, I gave him a call. It seemed that I called at a most inopportune time and the Pope was making up for his long period of celibacy about two hours later we met in the lobby to head out for lunch. Can you imagine my surprise when the Pope turned up with S on his arm, hand in hand nuzzling like teenagers or dogs on heat?
We headed off to the Fuji Restaurant at Big C for a pretty decent Japanese meal. The Pope was in love or at least in a deep state of lust. It was a wonder to behold the guy had done a full 180 in less two weeks, not only had he had a soapy and his first girl from a go-go but he was involved in his first GFE, If this was an educational trip for the Pope then he had just graduated. We had planned on leaving for Bangkok after lunch and I wondered if the Pope would ask to extend our time in Pattaya a little longer, but he didn’t and at about 4 o’clock a little later the scheduled we headed out. The whole way to Bangkok the Pope had a stupid grin on his face. He was languishing in a state of euphoria that was long overdue. My friend was going through a tough divorce and this was the first time I had seen him really happy for a long, long time. He sat there with a silly grin on his face and it was contagious I couldn’t help but laugh.

A quick hotel revue
I can’t recommend this hotel my last stay here was a disaster the only reason I booked at the SS again was because of the restraints of traveling with the Pope and I tried a number of hotels before rebooking at this hotel. The staff is not exactly friendly or helpful, no breakfast, nice pool on the 3rd floor and well located no joining fee. At BHT1500pn for a sea facing room this hotel is a good deal, but only if they live up to their word and promotions last time they didn’t this time they did.

The ride to Bangkok took longer then I had planned because we left Pattaya late and court the afternoon traffic. When we finally got to the Nana our rooms where not ready, but the staff where down right friendly and after a small gratuity so and chat with one of the managers we were upgraded to two of the bigger rooms. It took a wile but everything was sorted out and the Pope and I headed for the little pub down the road from the Nana for a bight to eat , the Pope was still talking about S and they had already started smsing each other, ain’t it cute.
It was late and time for the Pope to get his first taste of Nana Entertainment Plaza. We headed for Angle Witch so that I could say hi to Dave the rave. Dave was the amiable host as always and we court up on the latest mongering news, he introduced me to one or two CH members and we chatted for a wile. In a bizarre twist the Pope didn’t want to bar fine any girls from AW although he saw more then one that he liked because he was still pining for S and they where call and SMSing each other like love sick school kids. My plan was to get a girl from the parking lot at Nana, which I did after a few misses. The first two girls I invited for a drink shot me down. But as I headed back to the entrance of the hotel feeling totally dejected I was set upon by a cutie, whose name escapes me if she ever gave it. She was all business but not a bad session for BHT1000. I think if the girls know you are staying at the Nana they figure you for a seasoned monger and that cuts down on their usual shit.

The next day the Pope got to see Royal Palace we where supposed to do the Wat tour in the afternoon but there was a fuckup and we rescheduled for the next day instead we headed out to the Chatuchak Weekend Market with its 1500 stands, and a stop at the Paragon shopping center were I buy most of my spices and food stuffs to take home, Paragon has a great food hall. Off course the Pope was on the phone to S most of the time.
That evening we head back to AW and met up with Dave it was a fun evening and I bar find a dancer Dave suggested…a real good suggestion. She stayed long time and was a fun session but camera shy.
The next morning the Pope got to see the three Buddha’s, the emerald Buddha the reclining Buddha and the Gold Buddha the last things on his list of must-does in Thailand. I can’t help but wonder if that to do list that he had written up before our trip wouldn’t have been a little different if had known then what he knows now.
After the tour we headed to the Indra Plaza (behind the Indra Hotel) and Pratunam market to do a little last minute shopping, the next day was our last day in Thailand how time had flown. In the late afternoon we headed for the hotel pool to cool off, wile we where relaxing the Pope had a revelation, why not get S to come up to Bangkok for his last night in Thailand. It would be fun the perfect ending for his first sojourn in LOS and for that reason he decided not to do it. The Pope has the habit of spending long hours deciding what will make him happy and then torturing himself by not doing it. Don’t ask me to explain this kind of thinking, it could be some form of guilt but I don’t get it either, but this time I wasn’t prepared to stand for it, it took five hours but eventual he called her around midnight and she hopped the first taxi to Bangkok getting in at 3am. The Pope spent the whole evening in giddy anticipation. He headed out to dinner on Soi 5 at the soi five diner recommended by Dave, it wasn’t bad and really well priced. I had other plans for the evening and wile the Pope waited for his beloved I headed off at about 2am with another girl from AW, the selection there has really headed up a notch and there are some real cuties in the place. The pope also loved the show and there is always a nice crowd in the place. This time I made up for the curse of the Pope in Chiang Mia and bar fining Jay(?) from that lovely city. She had light skin and brown hair with a lovely natural chest that I could, and did play with for hours.
In 9th –out 12th late checkout (20.30)
This was my last day in SEA and strangely I felt no desire to get home. Normally after a hectic trip I feel the call of my own bed and my shower, but this time I felt only regret that my trip was coming to an end. I had some business to take care of and the Pope was in S’s cable hands. My business didn’t go well and I was supposed to meet Tayor for lunch, she was a girl I new from back home that had returned to Thailand, and we where supposed to meet at Paragon to catch up, but she never arrived and after waiting for over an hour I headed back to the hotel to pack. As our flight was leaving after midnight the Pope and I had decided to check out of one room and keep the other for a late check out. I met the Pope and S at the pool and we chatted for a wile he then asked what my plans where for what was left of the afternoon I realized that he had plans with S that would result in no last minute nooky for me as the Pope wanted to commandeer the room. So all alone and dejected I headed out we meet up at the hotel later for dinner, and we went to the dinner on soi 5, the same place we had eaten at the night before, after dinner we headed to the airport were s and the Pope said their tearful goodbyes.
A quick hotel revue
The Nana is the Nana, it has been around for ever and looks it but there isn’t a better base for mongering. The hotel staff are more friendly then they see that you are a regular guest, hell after 4 stays they might even crack a smile, but just one. Better then fair breakfasts. Big clean if a bit old world rooms, but only if you book a deluxe or better room. The regular rooms are disgusting.

Conclusion
I think in future I will give Phuket and Cambodia a miss though I would highly recommend visiting Siem Reap. Phnom Penh has very little to offer, it has the feel of a city in recovery there are none of the great wonders of Siem Reap and the nightlife feels limited, although that could be because of the lousy guide we had, the girls are attractive and mongering is cheaper then in Thailand but these advantages are more then off set by other expenses and the lack of other activities. Phuket is expensive by Thai standards and although it offers a little bit more in scenery it has way less to offer in night life then compared with Pattaya. Chiang Mia was a pleasant surprise and I will travel there again time and cash flow permitting It could be a enjoyable substitute then the heat of BKK or Pattaya gets to much.
Although I have been to SEA over a dozen times in the last few years this was a different kind of trip, usually I travel by myself or with a mongering wingman. This time I was traveling with a long time friend who was going through a very tough patch in his life, one that those of you who have been divorced can empathize with. I didn’t know what to expect and it turned out to be a great trip but it wasn’t really a mongering trip in the classic sense, I know that as the trip wore on the Pope was exposed to a lifestyle that I have to believe has some appeal for him. I can’t help but think that he must be mentally kicking himself when he thinks back to Sharkys and the clubs in Siem Reap. The Pope was quite fore a long while after we boarded the plane, and I was wondering if he felt the trip was worth wile but then as the plane took off the Pope broke his silence, smiled and said “tell me more about these Termas places in Rio?”

You took the speed boat ride to siem reap, a great ride.
Benwee giving bad sevice again, i personally have my own driver in PP, but i would not recommend him on the board in case of the bad service reflecting on one`s self
it seems you made good use of the information on the board, which is whats it for, i love to go to cambodia, its a lot cheaper than Thailand, great report brings back memories for me.

Very entertaining report. I really like to hear about other things to do and see besides monger all night and sleep all day. I am planning my virgin SEA trip for the first three weeks of September and hope to visit many of the same places at a less hectic pace.

Excellent report! Maybe sometime our paths will cross in Chiang Mai; assuming it hasn't changed much in the last few years there are some interesting possibilities there, but they don't jump out at you the way they do in Pattaya or Bangkok.

Thanks to the curse of the Pope the interesting possibilities stayed well hidden. We are planning other trip later this year (Sept-Oct) but we have not decided where yet iether back to SEA or to Brazil.

Hi HM
I thought your report was very informative and the pictures where great, you have good taste (ie the same as mine). I am suffering from LOS with drawl in a big way. Its a shame that we keep missing each other in LOS. We will have to do something about that next trip.

Great report Isawal. I too enjoy hearing about the touristy things to do in these countries. I was in Phuket two weeks before the tsunami hit so it's nice to hear that they're on their way to recovery. Sounds though like they need to find a way to bring back the bar girls along with those plam trees they're bringing in.

Hi Rocket
We sat around at the dock for almost half an hour but neither Mr. John nor his asst Mr. Dara turned up, that’s why we went with another driver. Mr. John's man eventually turned up at the hotel in the late afternoon about 3 hours after we arrived and instead of apologizing for messing us around became quite belligerent and rude. He kept calling Mr. John on his phone but when I asked to speak to Mr. John refused to speak to me. At that point I told the guy to get lost. I have no regrets Mr. Khus was a top notch guide.

Isawal,
Wow, what a fantastic report. You pulled everything together beautifully and wrote an informative piece that has piqued my interest in the Far East. Your pictures blew me away!

High praise indeed from the master, thank you.
I still think that with your taste in women you should come visit me in ZA.
BTW any chance you will be in Rio in late Sept earl October?
