FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 6TH, 2002

I started my day as I normally do. I went down to the business center with the laptop and plugged into their slower than molasses network. I chatted with Dart for a bit and checked out some current events. I decided to do some reconnoitering around the Soi 33 area for later in the trip. I also wanted to check out Washington Square. I took the Sky Train down to the Phrom Phong station. Get off on the north side of Sukhumvit and then head west, or walk back towards the Asoke station. You should first come across Sukhumvit Soi 33/1 and then Sukhumvit Soi 33.



I basically just took some pictures and scouted out the area. I wanted to know where I was going for the next time. As I was approaching the heart of the of the Artist bars there, it started pouring down rain. I started making my way back to the BTS station. I decided not to run or avoid the rain, just to walk and enjoy the cooler temperature for a change. This was a bad idea for two reasons. One was the fact I was soaking wet by the time I got to the station. Two, and more importantly, the freezing cold air of the Sky Train on the way back had me shivering throughout the ride.

I had wanted to find Washington Square but the rain put a damper on that. I would look again later. I went back to the Grand President, showered up and decided to head out for Champs Elys’ees Entertainment.

Alright. How should I describe how to get to Champ Elys’ees? The map I have show Din Daeng road coming from the West, Rama IX Road to the East, Rachaphisek to the North and Din Daeng Rd to the South. Din Daeng Road is named that north of New Petchaburi. South of New Petchaburi it is called Asoke Road. Forgive me if I cannot figure out how they decide to name the damn streets in Bangkok. Champ Elys’ees is located on the Southwest corner of the Din Daeng, Din Daeng, Rachaphisek, and Rama IX intersection. The Fortune Hotel is a good landmark and where I told the taxi to take me. It is located just across the street on the Northwest corner.

Champs Elys’ees Entertainment was billed as one of those upscale type massage parlors. So expect to pay a little more here. I walked in and the inside was made up like a street. I’ll assume the Champs Elysee in France? I didn’t see the Arche de Triomphe at the end of the street though. The hallway floor seemed like a cobblestone type street and the walls where made up like businesses and shops. I was escorted from the doorway to the end of the hallway by a mamasan and they sat me down in front of a whole bunch of sideline girls who were sitting stadium style in front of me. There wasn’t a fishbowl. Just about 10-20 girls in stadium type seating sitting on chairs. I ordered a beer and inquired about price. The mamsan pointed to each one and quoted a price that ranged from 2500 baht to the 4900 baht. There was one tiny little girl that caught my eye and before I had decided anything she was sitting next to me, called over by the mamasan. I asked her again how much this one was and was quoted a price of 3400 baht. I decided to go for it.

As a side note, I should say that Club Hombre doesn’t have a lot of information on some of the higher class or the more upscale and non-farang oriented massage parlors. I had the money to spend for this trip and some of my visits to these places were done in the name of research for Club Hombre. Well, not entirely in the name of research but partly in its name.

Bo was 19 and didn’t speak too much English. I snapped some shots of her and she handed me the remote control to the television and cuddled up next to me while the bath water ran.

After I came out of Champ Elys’ees I decided to hit Mirage based on Dart’s recommendation. It is another massage that is fairly close to the Nataree/Emmanuelle complex on Rachadaphisek Road. If you get to Subway you’ve actually gone too far. Turn around and then hang a right on the first side street you come across. Mirage is on the right hand part of the street. You’ll pass a 7-Eleven and The Palazzo Hotel. It is right next to the Palazzo.

You’ll head inside and then take an escalator up one floor. At the end of the hallway will be the fishbowl. “Rainy Days” seemed to be a theme this month (is it because it was the rainy season or do they always do that?) with those words painted all over the place. The fishbowl girls were all in bikinis with a clear (water resistant skirt type thingie) around their waists. There were also some sideline girls here sitting in stools by a counter facing me. Fishbowl girls were 2500, sideline girls were 3500.

There weren’t many girls to choose from. There was only one girl I was interested in and she was not really smiling much at me. She was by far the only girl there I wanted. But I hesitated for a long time given her demeanor through the glass.

After thinking long about her, or about leaving and trying another place, I decided to go for it. (In the name of research!) They called her number and she looked none too happy about being chosen. The room at Mirage was probably one of the biggest massage parlor rooms I have ever seen. It was very large with a big ol’ bed for the fun stuff. Top girl is hot, although 3,400 is pretty damn steep. I guess if you go once a year, the amount you pay is pretty irrelevant. The massage girls get what they ask for from their Asian clientele so other mongers paying high prices does not change anything. I could not even begin to count how many massage parlors there must be. I made it a point to hit a lot and some of the major ones I didn't get to see the last time around. I would imagine if you include both major and minor massage parlors there are about 50 in the Bangkok area. But that is just a guess.

If you want working girls per square mile you really need to check out Pattaya. It's been said there has to be more prostitute’s per square mile in that city than in any other in the world. It's a sight to see!

He has several Thailand trips under his belt and he made a comment to me tonight that sums up the differences between Brazil and Thailand nicely for him. As far as nude pics are concerned. I find it difficult enough just to get pictures of the girls. Nude would be extremely hard. I cut back severely on my TJ and Nogales mongering for this trip. I had long planned for this trip to be a major fuck-a-thon, if you will. I still have the habit of transferring back into dollars what the same thing would cost me here in the US or Mexico. Everyone says I should not do that but oh well. Let's take a look. 3400 baht / 43 (at the time I was there) = $79 US Dollars.

That's about $8 more than the average 30 minute TJ session and about even with the average 12 minute closet fuck in Nogales.

To me, dropping 3400 baht for two hours, a nice room, a cute girl, no early knock, no cramped fucking in a closet, and a session that will most likely be 50 to 100% more affectionate and accommodating than the average TJ or Nogales session is a no brainier. It was a complete non-issue for me. Now if I was traveling 6-10 times a year like you things might be different. But that was it for me. That was my two weeks of vacation. That's all I get for the entire year. So it's not like I am going back this year or even next. My one international trip next year is going to be to Rio. I am not like the other guys on this board that can take 5-10 trips a year. I just can't do it so dropping a little extra coin for the massage girls didn’t bother me a bit and it played into the goals I wanted to accomplish on this trip.

As for the Go-Go girls I pay standard rate. 1000-1500 for short time and 1500-2000 for long time. Very few of the girls ever discussed price with me beforehand (although a few did) and I often just ended up giving the girls something in between the standard rate each time.

Whether or not I had extra money due to the Club Hombre incentive plan is really kind of irrelevant if you are relating that to the reason why I did so many massage girls. The biggest deciding factor in trying to do two massages and one Go-Go/Beer Bar girl a night was logistics. I had the stated goal of doing three girls a day. I did not initially think much of it, until I realized that Japan's GNP is BIG. In fact, I just looked it up. Japan's GNP for year 2000 was 4.7 trillion US dollars (which accounted for 17% of the ENTIRE world's GNP). 1% of $4.7 trillion is $47 BILLION. Japan's male population between age 20-60 (sorry Ben) is about 40 million. Assuming that these men pick up the tab for the overwhelming majority of the industry, EVERY Japanese man spends $1,175 on sex EVERY YEAR.

Of course, not all expenses on sex industry are on prostitution. And a session per hour there ($2-300) costs 2-3 times more than that in TJ ($50 per half hour). At the same time, the above figure does NOT include what Japanese men spend sex in foreign coutries (SEA etc), nor am I sure if it covers an economy at HUGE underground/illegal prostitution (such as widespread prostitution by "non-pro" teenage girls). In any case, Japanese men must be spending more on prostitution than anybody else in the world.

Quite frankly, I am not surprised by $1,175 per man figure. For one thing, the frequency of mongers among Japanese men is ridiculously high compared to, say that among US men. I'd say 80% (or maybe more) of the friends I know from Japan monger, and they don't hide their inclination for their hobby at school or work.
