It's been awhile since I've been to Argentina. Not a whole lot has changed, in my opinion a good thing.

In the past I've stayed in rental apartments, places I found on recommendation from discussion forums. I did the same on this trip, utilizing the services of apartmentsba.com. I found a deal for a studio for 7 nights for $420 USD. I had to send a 50% deposit plus 3.5% for paying via Paypal. The other 50% plus a $400 USD deposit was due upon arrival, so I made sure I had the $610 in cash before I left the US.

The only thing that I didn't really like is that they charge $50 for early check-in and $50 for late check out. With many flights arriving mid-morning and leaving in the evening, the extra $100 will likely be needed. I didn't want to pay the $100, so I decided I'd visit an internet cafe for a few hours when I arrived and find a cheap hotel my last day to keep my stuff until I was ready to leave.

Only interesting thing about the flight is I got a free Business class upgrade from JFK to EZE because coach was full and I have elite status. I also got lucky because the guy seated next to me in coach was too big for the seat, he wouldn't fit without lifting up the arm rest between us. My new seat was mostly comfortable but I had to put a pillow behind my back because the head cushion was too thick and had me hunched forward otherwise. I drank some free wine and had an excellent steak dinner. The 10 hour flight didn't seem to bad in Business.

We got in a little before 10am. One of the first things a hobbyist notices about Argentina is they have the babes on display just about as soon as you arrive. You'll see these beauties working in front of the shops when you arrive and when you leave BA. Immigration and customs was quick. Don't bother changing any money because the airport gives a shit rate and everyone accepts dollars anyways. Airport was giving 2.74 when the minimum around town was 3.00. I paid $20 at the Ezeiza taxi stand for a ride into town.

One of the nice things about BA is the abundance of cafes and internet outlets, also called locutorios. We found one two short blocks from my hotel, so I passed time there until it was time to check-in. After getting the short tour of the building and my keys, I set out to buy a chip for my cell.

The three cellular services in Buenos Aires are CTI, Personal, and Movistar...AFAIK. I found a CTI store nearby and bought a chip with some minutes for 30 pesos/$10 USD. The woman at the counter didn't speak any English and my Spanish/Castellanos wasn't good enough to understand a fair amount of what she said, but believed she said the phone would take 30 minutes to become active.

Important Note: You are supposed to have your passport number to buy the chip. I didn't have mine but the agent took my drivers license instead and the transaction went through successfully.

Next stop was Cafe Orleans in Centro. The available women are older, but I've generally liked the atmosphere there. A couple were younger and attractive. One was a little overweight, but I liked her face. I chatted with her for a bit but she wanted 300 pesos/$100 USD which was more than I was willing to pay, I forget her name. After that I spoke with a cuter, skinnier blond after that but she also wanted the same price and wouldn't come down. I considered paying the price if she'd come back to the apartment, but she was insistent on using the nearby transitorio, or short-time hotel. After Cafe Orleans I tried to call some of the escort numbers I had, but I couldn't connect to any of them. I would discover later that even though they say it'll be 30 minutes to a few hours, it might not be until the next day that your phone gets activated, at least from my experience.

For my first evening in BA I decided to hit Madahos. Entrance fee was 50 pesos, roughly $17 USD to be surrounded by a bunch of attractive women you can take home for the evening and a free drink. This place isn't cheap. Additional drinks are another 50 pesos and drinks for the women will set you back at least 80 pesos. You'll have to buy at least one to take a date out and they are non-transferable. If you buy a drink for one and decide on another, you have to buy another drink.

There were so many attractive options it was difficult to choose. I ended up buying a drink for brunette from Argentina named Maya. She wanted $100 USD which was a decent price for Madahos, but I didn't think much of her attitude so I cut her loose. Two blonds named Fernanda and Jenny wanted me to take them both, but that was more than I wanted to spend and I was only attracted to Jenny. Of course Fernanda was the more aggressive one. A cutie named Karina had her eye on me for a good part of the night, but when I finally went to meet her I was more attracted to her brunette friend Marlen. I felt kind of awkward so I wandered off after a short chat with the two of them.

It was starting to get late so I finally picked up Jenny who was now alone. I tried to get her down to $100 USD, but she didn't want to go below $120. Since it was late I just decided to take her after buying the required drink.

The exchange at EZE is crap only if you use the small exchange booth where the luggage arrives. When you leave that area and go past the last security check, you'll see a Banco de la Nacion Argentina on the right (large blue and white sign). They always give an excellent rate. They're probably giving close to 3.10 now. You can exchange $1000 US and they won't even ask for your passport (they didn't for me last time, anyways). I load up on pesos here now every time I go to BA.

I think I may know those two blonds from Madahos. Was Jenny shorter and a little chubby, and Fernanda taller, slimmer and more refined looking? There's no such thing as the best steak in BA. Way too many places with great steak to try and make such a distinction.

The OP wasn't on the budget program. Lots of private apartments around where it's $US20-30 for 30 minutes with decent girls. BA is generally less expensive than Rio unless you are planning to spend your time in VM. Unfortunately, BA doesn't have termas. Private apartments are more like the houses in SP.

Day 2/Thursday

When I tried to use my phone Thursday to call some escorts, I was receiving a different message than the day before. If I understood correctly, it basically said that I didn't have any credit on the phone which sucked because I was told and paid for some credit on the phone. Early Friday afternoon I visited a nearby locotorio to buy 20 pesos of credit for my Personal chip, but when I tried to enter it I got an error message. I asked for help from the guy at the counter, he told me the phone was not active yet. Frustrated, I bought 10 pesos credit for my CTI chip. Fortunately, that one was now working.

Day 7/Tuesday

I did a lot of sightseeing and shopping today, but still managed to fit in both afternoon and evening sessions.
