**The details of each bar is in the bars section of Guatemala City. Also refer to my guide for further details although I will make some additional observations at the end of this report.

Took the 1am flight from LAX to Guat City and arrived at 6am to take the free shuttle to Suites Reforma. Put my belongings in the front desk personal safe and took a nap in my room for 7 hours as I couldn't sleep well on the plane.

Chapter 2:

THIS IS NOT A MONGERING CHAPTER

Now that the warning is out of the way, this will essentially be a guide for going to the ruins of Tikal for those of you who wish to take a girl there or go on your own. IMHO, its one of those incredible places on earth that everyone should see at least once in their lives.

In order to get to Tikal from Guat City you have to take a long bus ride or flight. The domestic flights in Guatemala are extremely expensive and my RT flight cost more than my flight from LAX to Guat City. TAM and TACA Airlines are the two airlines that you can use to fly to Flores which is the closest airport to Tikal. The flight costs $213. The alternative rout is to use an overnight bus ride on Linea Dorada which takes about 8-10 hours. The cost of the bus ride is about $44RT. Not a bad option as it saves you the cost of a hotel but I cant sleep on a bus. Linea Dorada is a first class bus with aircon and big seats that recline. You can purchase the flights with TACA on their web site as well. The flight there was on the small plane below but on the way back it was on one of the larger Airbus planes. The flight is 40 minutes.



The aiport is actually in Saint Elena which is a couple miles away from the small island called Flores. FLores is attached to the mainland by a short road. I stayed at a guesthouse called Los Amigos. This place is awesome. I was able to get a private room that is raised up like a treehouse and has hammocks on the outside. The place is owned by a couple of Euro dudes with their local wives. The food here is excellent and cheap. The restaurant is always packed and has people from all over the world. I never did the traveling backpacking thing when I was in college so I always like to be amongst them when I take a side trip from mongering. They usually have a ton of information and there are always a couple hot girls around willing to fuck.

This place is also great because they arrange all of your travel for you. The web site is a wealth of information on local travel. I decided to take the last 2pm bus out to Tikal to check the place out during sunset while the weather was still good. It costs 50Q RT on a mini bus and it takes about an hour. The bus was late but I was able to get to the grounds by 4pm for the last couple hours of the parks hours. The hike to Tower 1 will take about 30 minutes and you should be aware of leaf-cutter ant hills below and giant spider webs above. The climb up the stairs to Tower 1 is gnarly. The steps are straight up and slippery at times. Use the hand rails the entire time. The trip to the top is exhausting but worth it when you get to the top. You can see two of the main towers, including Jaguar Tower from the tower.



It's best to buy a map for 20Q as the place is huge and spread out in the jungle. You will see toucans, howler monkeys and spider monkeys all over the place. Was able to get to the main towers before sunset.








Arrived back at the hostel at 7pm and bought my sunrise Tikal tour package for 160Q. The bus leaves at 3:30am so I knew I had to get to bed by at least 10pm. The restaurant was packed and I found a seat amongst a large group of Israeli's. They were intrigued that a guy in his late 30's would be interested in traveling by himself to places like Tikal. Most of them spoke English and were discussing stories about places in Southern Mexico and Belize. Most of them were on their way to Honduras the next day. Two of the girls were really hot. The tour was amazing as our guide Caesar was an American who relocated to his birthplace Guatemala. He was a wealth of information and even explained how drugs took a part in the Mayan rituals. Arrived in La Antigua after about a 45 minute minibus ride from the airport. Found a guesthouse on the net that has large bedrooms in an 19th century Spanish villa that has been remodeled for a guesthouse/hotel. It is called Ashanti's Place and here is the web site:

The city is really quite stunning and all the roads are cobblestone with hanging gaslamps and really ornate doors, etc. Would be a great place to take a chica you dig in Guat City. Its a short trip from Guat City so you could easily make a day trip out of it if you wish.

A lot of the great places to chill center around the central park in the middle of the town. The only transportaiton are tuk tuks as the roads are just too Euro for big buses and such, although there are a couple buses on the outskirts that go to Guat City every 30 minutes or so. It's actually cheaper to get to Guat City coming back as all of the travel agents only charge $5 to get there on a minibus.




Almost as many travel agents as coffee shops and many people like to go to the local volcanoes or Lake Atitlan. Several towns around Lake Atitlan where the sale and use of marijuana has become accepted in public and restaurants...really bizarre.

Some recommendations for places to eat are: Kafka's, Cafe Flor and Cafe Condesa. Cafe Condesa is an old ruins that has been rebuilt into a really cool outdoor/indoor restaurant that is perfect for breakfast and your morning paper. It's all health food similar to El Yogurt Place in Playas de Tijuana. Every place has happy hour and many places serve Gallo on draft which is excellent.

Only a 45-min drive from Guatemala City also visited Antigua, colonial capital of Central America when Spain ruled. Cobblestone streets, old bldgs & churches, baroque architecture... Another popular attraction near GC is Pacaya, the country's most active volcano. Didn't have time to go to Lago de Atitlán or Popán in Honduras. Maybe next yr.
