As life would have it, I wind up spending a lot of time in the Dominican Republic – the city of Puerto Plata, to be specific. Everyone says, “RT, you’ve got it made. The DR is the place for all the action.”
Santo Domingo, maybe. Puerto Plata is another story. Chicas are available here, but not as easily, plentiful, or cheaply.
The ‘city’ of Puerto Plata exists, as far as I can tell, to service the virtually non-existent tourist trade on the north coast of the country. The city is poor, electricity is hit-or-miss, and it is ALWAYS too hot and humid. The place is not English-friendly (lots of people *think* that they speak good English), and it’s expensive to live here. Maybe you can guess that Puerto Plata wouldn’t make RT Gooch’s Top Ten Places To Visit. You’d be right.
However, after several months of close research, I have some experiences to report. Spanish helps *a lot* everywhere. With my rudimentary skills, I can converse a little. If all you want to do is negotiate and get laid, no Spanish is needed, just bring a pen. I will quote all prices in dollars; the currency here is the Dominican Peso, of which there are 18-20 to the dollar. Here they are (the action doesn’t seem to start before about 10 pm anywhere):
EL BOHEN – Named after the first cruise ship to visit Puerto Plata, El Bohen is the jewel of the local chica scene. This is a strip club/whorehouse with rooms on site. The girls live there as well, and I have had the pleasure of visiting with chicas in their own rooms. It sure is strange having to move the stuffed animals out of the way to do the deed.
A normal evening will find 20-30 pretty girls in attendance. There is no cover, and beers are cheap. Mixed drinks are slightly higher, and the drinks for the girls run about $5-6. The girls are attractively dressed, and need little urging to join you at your table. As it is all over the world, there are aggressive ones – as it is all over, steer clear of the sharks. They quickly suggest going to a room. Asking price is a uniform $100. I have negotiated various rates from $70 to $85. This includes all room fees and charges to the club. The sessions are all over the map – ranging from long and passionate to quick and mechanical. Many ‘extras’ are open for discussion, and asking nicely seems to do as much good as offering tips.
Just last night, I took a girl that I had seen before out to a ‘Cabana’ rather than her room. Cabanas are short stay motels that are clean, air-conditioned, and serve food and drink, all for about $10-18 for up to four hours. They’re all over the place; I guess Dominicans often can’t wait to get home. She wasn’t thrilled about leaving the office, as it were, but she knew and trusted me. I got a nice photo session out of the deal as well.
KRYSTAL – A poor man’s El Bohen, in every way except price. The place is not as nice, the girls aren’t as pretty, and the rooms are much worse. All for only about $10 less than El Bohen.
ACROSS THE STREET FROM KRYSTALS – Are about four or five open-air bars where free-lance girls can be found. Beers are cheap, and it’s fun. Once, another guy and I hung there for about an hour. We had three drinks total, we bought a few beers for the girls, I had two girls on my lap, and he had made one good friend. We flirted and fondled, all for $20, including a tip for the bartender. Another time, I found a chica there, took her to a Cabana, and received the Mother Of All Blow Jobs. I overpaid slightly at $50 + $12 for the Cabana. Just to make sure, I went with her a second time, and I was correct. Unfortunately, I haven’t found her since. There are girls there every evening, styles and quality is pretty random. But they’re all friendly.
MOUNTAINVIEW HOTEL – This joint is in the middle of town. I have never taken a girl from there. One night, there were a bunch of unescorted, friendly women. The next time I went, guys were there with their wives; no solo chicas to be found. Third time, girls again. It’s very confusing if you don’t speak Spanish.
EL PRINCIPE – Is a roadside strip joint on the outskirts of town. It’s right near my hotel, so that helps. There’s a show at about midnight (nothing special), and the girls will all accompany you to a Cabana for $40-50, plus the price of the room, plus $15 to the house. The two girls I’ve taken from here didn’t seem to be in a rush – it wasn’t like they were hoping to get two jobs in an evening. One date seems to be an event around there.
THE MALECON – Is the 'strip' along the beach in the city. I have seen a couple of bars that had unescorted women sitting around, looking bored, but I haven’t investigated further.
CAR WASHES – Are actually Car Washes. You get your car washed there. As there are few automatic machines of any kind in Puerto Plata, the cars are washed by hand. It takes about 30-40 minutes and costs a hot $3. Since you have to wait, they built bars to kill the time at. At night, the car washing stops and the bar takes over. These places are another opportunity to find professional women. I have been to car washes, but have not left with a girl. I imagine the prices run in the $40 range, plus Cabana costs.
BARS/DISCOS – It has been my experience that a smile and just an attempt at Spanish will get the attention of a regular girl just out for the evening. These girls are not pros, but are fairly open to spending an hour with a presentable gringo. They generally ask for something “for their baby” or whatever somewhere along the way. $50 has always received a warm response. I have been hit on by some semi-pros in some of the casinos, but I passed on the opportunity.
CABARETE – Is a beach town about 30 minutes away. There is one bar I found with plenty of chicas available for take out to a local Cabana. The one girl I left with was so happy to be in a clean, air-conditioned room, that she asked me if I would stay for the entire night. What can a guy do? I stayed. She was happy with the $50 I gave her, plus the $8 to the bar when we left and Cabana charges.
SOSUA – Is a town in between Puerto Plata and Cabarete. Supposedly, action is to be had there (they do have car washes), but I haven’t checked.
Well, now you know all that I do. If I didn’t have experience elsewhere, I think that I might be more enamored of the entire situation, but I do, so there you go.
Take care and have fun.
