But Medellin is very spread out and has around 3.3 million people in the metro area. One thousand Gringos in MDE would have much less influence than 100 in CTG. And MDE is much more dangerous than CTG.

Having lived for a year in MDE now, I don't feel that either place has been ruined. I like them both and will be in CTG for 6 weeks after the Christmas horde leaves.
