Porto Alegre to Buenos Aires is like going from Frankfurt to London; at least it felt that way to me. Buenos Aires really is the capital of South America with its politics, economics and cultural life.

There are a number of really good hotels in BA and the Holiday Inn in Puerto Madero is not one of them although the staff are friendly and helpful. It is one of the most depressing hotels I’ve been to and after a quick inspection of the room asked to be moved to the Crowne Plaza nearer the centre.

Santiago de Chile is a very nice and clean city. Food is as good as Brazil and the wine is world class. The mountains are too grand to describe but I’ll tell you this much ; I felt awed by the view and very close to tears and euphoria at the same time.
