Another extended hiatus from work meant that I had sufficient time to get the hell out of town for a much needed break. I’ve lived in Mexico now for almost three years. And as much as I like living here, I need to get away. With the dollar’s continuing demise, I again choose to head to Asia rather than head back to my beloved Rio de Janeiro.

After deciding upon Asia, the decision then became Angeles or Pattaya. I spent a week in Pattaya last November and, while I enjoyed myself, I didn't have the best time ever. Perhaps my mostly-average trip was due in part because I only spent time with one board member (Phoenixguy) who was in Pattaya on a whirl-wind stop before heading back to the PI to spend time with his girlfriend. Hanging with the guys is a major bonus for any trip and that didn't happen much for me in Pattaya. I knew that Porker would be spending time in AC at the end of March and Bud is there semi-permanently as usual. They are both great guys and would help make the non-session time go by much better. Icarus also PMed me to say that he would be in town for a couple days of my trip. Another good guy. So now I’m leaning toward Angeles.

But here’s the clincher, I know this will be heresy to some Thailand lovers but I’m going to say it anyway, I actually like Angeles better than Pattaya. I know, I know, Pattaya has more girls, is located by the ocean, has better food and, infrastructure-wise, is head and shoulders above Angeles. But still, I prefer Angeles. Maybe I'm just low-rent (and Angeles is DEFINITELY low-rent) myself and like to stay in my element.

Decision made: I am going back to Angeles.

My first trip to Angeles was almost exactly a year ago. Now it’s time for me to see how much has changed in a year. So here goes. But first, the travel log.
