My taxi arrived in Pattaya at The Vault Hotel where I was greeted by Priew…who was presumably as happy to see me as the bottle of Dalmore scotch whiskey that I extracted from my luggage. Returning “home” is always better when you’re greeted by a good friend. We like to joke with the bargirls that we’re “brothers”…and as they would glance skeptically from ebony to ivory we would offer the familiar refrain “same mama, different papa”, lol! I’ll digress a moment to explain the joke for those who haven’t had the pleasure of frolicking with Thai bargirls…they commonly try to extract a lady drink from customers by introducing a “sister” who looks nothing alike and when questioned about the obvious dis-similarity they always reply “same mama, different papa”. We just reversed it on them and they always seemed to appreciate the humor.

Rather than reserve a room at Nova Park (executive serviced apartments) again, I was determined to try to find a better value accommodation. I spent the first 3 days looking at dozens of apartments around town but alas, nothing compared favorably to Nova Park. So after 3 nights at The Vault, I returned to Nova Park to settle in for the duration. I was actually glad it worked out this way because I keep all “my shit” stored at Nova Park when I check out and leave town. It was convenient to get it out of storage and move it up to my room. Plus, I know everyone there; I’ve been a resident for several years.

I expected this trip to be like all the others…eat, sleep, chill out, drink, fuck and just generally have fun. In fact Priew ended up appropriately naming his trip the “Welcome to the Good Life Tour” and that was certainly how it started for me too. But before long it became the “Yikes, I’ve Become a Sexaholic Tour”. For starters, it turned out to be the shortest trip (10 weeks) ever. I didn’t think it was possible for someone as hedonistic as me to get bored in the most hedonistic place on earth…but I did (for reference sake, I spent 42 weeks in Thailand last year, 37 weeks the year before that). I was afraid I might scream when the next bargirl asked "what your name", "where you come from" and "how long you stay Thailand".

I also discovered that I had become obsessed with sex. Even when the well was empty, as soon as one girl walked out the door, I was thinking about the next one. I mean its one thing to be a monger, or a “hobbyist” as some like to say; it’s something entirely different to be an obsessive/compulsive monger. I liked being the former. When I realized I had become a sexaholic, I knew my lifestyle had become unhealthy. Shit, I’d innocently go to the store to buy groceries or something and see yet another beguiling Thai sex goddess and reflexively make a hit. Mouth-watering temptation is everywhere you turn in Pattaya and it’s safe to say I had a bad case of yellow fever. I had to extract myself from the temptation. I had to leave that shithole paradise called Pattaya. So I cut my trip short (for me).

Not surprisingly, re-hab back in the states is going splendidly. I have absolutely no temptation to P4P with an over-priced American bitch.

I’m now considering the possibility that some latin spice might help me recover from yellow fever which partly explains why I joined CH. I also had to consider if it was just a coincidence that Priew was the first buddy I saw on this trip, Cubanut was the last, and I hooked up with Bwana dik somewhere in the middle…I don’t know? I do know that Cubanut’s video of the girls in Medellin is worth the price of admission. Anyhow, advice and suggestions to help my “recovery” are welcome.

Hey buddy I think you owe it to yourself to try some latin poon and at least have something to compare Thailand to. I know Bwana probably parised the wonders of Brazillian women as much as I praise the Colombian women.

Truth be told though, if Cuba was anything like it was from 94 to 99 I would say you'd become adicted to the island as I did. Unfortunately that is not the case now. So of course there is Costa Rica and Dominican Republic but I see more and more of the guys in Medellin and Cali who used to go there as well. Argentina has real gems as does Peru and Uraguay but it can be a search that takes up valuable monger time.

However, for the ease and no brainer monger trip to a land filled with beautiful women, Colombia is still a great place to hobby.

Of course Brazil, especially Rio is off the charts in women who are just sexually charged animals. But the distance and cost to get there and now the ever falling dollar and rising garota prices makes Brazil a not so bargain hobby location.

I am amazed at your staying power. I hit the wall at about the two week mark. Then Murasaki needs to scoot off and do a bit of fossil hunting to recharge the batteries before resuming. Otherwise I get so "fucked out" that I lose a lot of interest.

To spend the amount of time you do in Pattaya (and not being retired and living there) is astounding. I've never been able to make it past 4 days in that town. I get so damned bored of the place. Guess I'm just a natural fit for the big cities....

Murasaki…the first couple of years I was much the same as you. My tolerance level was limited. I was never in Pattaya for more than a few weeks or a month at a time. I would travel up-country or go to Phuket, Chiang Mai, Samui or BKK for a change of pace. And my monthly visa runs took me to virtually every country in Asia, usually, but not always, in search of P4P. Last year Thailand started enforcing their new visa regulations which altered everything for me (and many others). Coupled with that, I had a consulting job that required daily output, so it became most appropriate to stay in one place, so I stayed in Pattaya and got used to it. Working every day, if only for 4-5 hours, kept me intellectually stimulated. Meeting my buddies at night to prowl around Walking Street was my play time. I didn’t get bored. When I returned this year, I wasn’t working. I didn’t have anything to occupy my mind but the thoughts of a thousand and one lovely Thai bargirls. Maybe an envious position to be in for some, but for me it became insidious. The truth is, the best medicine for my yellow fever is work.

just the other day i was thinking how much more i can go with my current regimen. i've spent most of the last two years in pattaya and phuket. along with a few trips to vietnam. shockingly, the bar hopping and girl chasing starts to feel like work after awhile. i might have to see a shrink or something.

i spent april in southern california and had a blast watching sports and hanging with old friends (with no hookers and very little booze). when i got to pattaya in may, i left almost immediately for phuket. pattaya just didn't have a good vibe for some reason.

i never thought it could happen but i might move back to california and live life there again.

Ah, that working component does make a difference. I can see it as being much more feasible if one were working on a daily basis and then going out for a bit of a "night cap" as opposed to the mongering being the sole purpose day in and day out. Working throughout the day I think would actually increase the appetite for a little sanuk in the evening; as opposed to the diminishing returns one confronts when doing nothing else.

I have talked to a few retirees there over the years, and have also done some reading of posts on the net by other retirees. Seems that the universal consensus is that when you are living there with no job, the partying and mongering gets real old real fast. Many of them ultimately wind up in long term relationship situations. Everyone finally confronts the fact that there can be too much of a good thing, and that we all have our limits.

Well my rebuttal to your rebuttal is that you can find plenty of hotties in Pattaya when you are there for 10 weeks...try doing it in 8 days and then try finding ones who will accept photos. I think you get into the groove of a destination once you are there for a week or so. By the end of my trip, my cell phone was blowing up from gogo girls wanting to come over during the day but by then I was ready to return home.

Yes, the whole photography thing is a crap shoot. I've often called it combat photography, due to the conditions we often shoot under, in those situations where it is allowed.

Actually I had a 3.5 month mongering trip, primarily in Pattaya, and I was out every night and acted like I was there for only 2 weeks. I got really burned out after 1.5 months but kept on going. After doing all the hotties in town I got really bored (plus since you get used to banging chicks every day it becomes harder to find hotties). My phone was also going off the hook but it got so annoying I stopped giving out my number. If I ever lived out there I'd have to find some kind of job or daily hobby or I'd go crazy. BTW I was there for two weeks in April and only 3 chicks rejected photo's, all from go-go's.
