I flew into Bangkok from Cebu and arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 1.15 AM. Strangely enough, it was my first visit to the “new” airport. And the first thing I had to do... was figure out how to get to the old airport.
I didn’t feel like going into town, so I was in no hurry. I leisurely strolled around these unfamiliar surroundings. After exploring the airport, I sat outside and had a few smokes. The further the night progressed, the lower the offers from the taxi drivers. But in the end, I took the bus.
I arrived at Don Muang around 5 AM and enquired about ticket prices to Udon Thani. Nok Air had the earlier flight, but Thai Airways was a little cheaper and would award me frequent flier miles.
Minibuses run from Udon Thani airport to the Friendship Bridge. After obtaining a visa on arrival, I took the bus across the bridge and shared a tuk-tuk into town with a French couple. After more than a decade, I was back at the Lao-Paris Hotel...
Memories
My first visit to Laos was in 1998. I crossed the Mekong from Chiang Rai province into Huay Xai, then traveled south along the river to Luang Prabang. In Vientiane, my daily visits to the Lao Aviation offices were rewarded with tickets to Phonsavan. They only handled bookings for the following day.
After visiting the Plain of Jars, I flew back to Vientiane and once again made the daily pilgrimage to Lao Aviation. In Sam Neua, I visited the Pathet Lao war caves and had my first taste of... rat!
Back in Vientiane, I continued my journey south to Tha Khaek, Savannakhet and finally Pakse, from where I crossed back into Thailand.
I was mainly a regular tourist back then, but did some mongering on the side. The only towns where I managed to get laid were Vientiane, Tha Khaek & Savannakhet. It never occurred to me to take pictures of the girls in those days. I only took photos of tourist attractions. How things have changed!
But I do have pictures of one Lao girl. The owner’s daughter at the Lao-Paris hotel took me sightseeing and... kept my bed warm.

Etoile Cabaret
Ten years on, I only had one mission – collecting pictures of pretty Lao girls I’d fucked. After a late lunch, I walked around town and scouted the location of some of the places I intended to visit. After dark, I checked out the Fountain Circle to see if there were any freelancers around. There were no girls, but the Chinese New Year celebrations were fun to watch.
When I got back to my room, I promptly dozed off. By the time I was ready to go out, it was 9.30 PM already. Way too late!
My first stop was the nearby Etoile Cabaret, a dark nightclub with just a handful of girls. Wee-un kept me company, loved to kiss and seemed desperate to spend the night with me. She looked OK in the dark, but not so good in the light...
Anou Cabaret
The Anou Cabaret was extremely crowded on Chinese New Year. I spotted a few attractive singers and hostesses, but they already had company. Late on a busy night, few girls were available.
Jee-up wasn’t my dream girl, but seemed eager to please. She started kissing me straight away and I figured she’d be good fun. She asked for 1500 THB ST or 3000 THB LT. I countered with 2000 THB LT. She requested 500 THB extra for the mamasan. When I agreed to give her an additional 200 THB, we walked hand in hand to my hotel.
Jee-up wasn’t really into modeling. When a friend called, she wanted to invite her to my room for a threesome. According to Jee-up, she was a true beauty who loved the camera. In reality, her friend turned out to be chubby and average-looking.
I hadn’t slept the previous night and was getting tired. I didn’t fancy fucking both girls, so I decided to send her friend home. Since she was afraid to walk back on her own, Jee-up had to accompany her back to the bar. Jee-up promised she’d be back in 20 minutes... I never saw her again.
