I will open my trip report saying that I've waited quite a bit to see Pattaya again. My 12 days in this beautifull city( at least for me it is )was pure fun and very enjoyable. I will have some pics to share with my fellow Hombre mongers, although not as many as from previous trips. Flying from Chicago to Bangkok is a 24 hr ordeal, but once there, I'am all smiles .

I had the hotel sending a driver to pick me up, but as soon as I got out of customs, I coulnd't find this driver nowhere. So I found one my self for 1200 baht to Pattaya , tolls included but this driver never drove pass 55 miles per hour !
he spoke very good english and we talked about everything till we got to my hotel.

I had reservation made "THE IRISH ROVERS" guesthouse on Soi L.K.Metro at 650 baht per day.
(2 doors down from Lólita's & 3 doors down from HELL's CLUB )
this guesthouse has all the basic accomodations for the average monger like my self, one who's happy with basic accomodations, and doesn't complain too much or not at all !!!!

the next day I've rented my motor-bike and met up with monger buddy GURROCK1 to start our debouchery. As usual we went to Lólita's, I did pick up a cutie, who just gave me an outstanding blow-job...
I do have to say that a lot new construction is going on in Pattaya, looks like every time I go there, more malls open up.

a few years back i had a very long layover in narita. the airline gave me a room outside the airport but i just hung out at the airport instead.

when i got to LAX, i got through passport control and was waiting for my baggage. a customs guy came up to me and called me by my name. i was shocked.

they claimed i was involved in a heroin smuggling operation. a group that operated out of narita. i said, "gee, that is funny. i never left the airport so not sure how i got the supposed heroin". their response was i checked into the hotel and got it there. and i pointed out that the airline did that, not me. plus, my passport had no stamp so proof i never left the airport.

after about an hour of nonsense, i totally lost it. told the whole group of officers to fuck off. then i got handcuffed to a chair for a couple hours and said fuck off to every question that was asked over the few hour period. not kidding. just a stream of fuck you, i want an attorney. over and over.

needless to say, because i lost all control of myself that one time, i now go through secondary almost every time i re-enter the US. you must be very very nice to these brainless idiots. and it is not easy after a long overseas flight.

Sorry THM but as someone mentioned on the discussion board you made yourself a target and fell right into their trap. For future trips when your standing in front of a customs official tell them all of the places you visited with Thailand being last. So if you flew through Hong Kong on your way to Bangkok say you visited Hong Kong first. Then never ever say you visited Pattaya. Say you visited Bangkok. If they ask if you visited any ladies say that your girlfriend in the States would not approve of that. You also never ever visited any "bars". Use only one sentence answers per question with no elaboration. If your worried about photo's take out your camera's memory card and put it in your pocket. If they ask say your camera broke on your trip. If you do the suggestions mentioned above you should have no problems (unless your sweating like crazy and touching your face while having nervous ticks of course).

as i recall, the last straw for me was a discussion over a corporate credit card to prove that i had a job. i didn't have one (a corporate card). i explained that in my job, i paid expenses on my personal credit card and then got reimbursed by the company. a real difficult concept.

last i checked, you don't need a job to go back to your home country. as long as you have a valid passport, that should do it.

i also remember parting with all the fuck you's for a moment when the boys suggested that i hadn't yet entered the US, was in "lawless land", and was in big trouble. i said "really, my plane just landed at LAX. i don't know where you guys think you are but i know, los angeles, california, united states of america." then they talked about crossing some border line (which i hadn't, supposedly) and i just went back to "fuck you".

by the way, they did suggest/threaten the rubber glove was on the way. but i guess someone had mercy on me.

but they see an entry stamp and exit from Thailand !!
2. after my luggage was opened in the front of them, they said "empty your pockets" and pull your inside pockets out, and put everything on this table !!!!
so lets say I had my memory card inside my pockets, that would have raised a red flag even more, as to why was in my pocket and not inside the camera. do you see what I mean ??
3.inside my luggage I had a receit from the guesthouse I stayed in Pattaya, and they did find it while going through my stuff in my luggage. so I tell them I stayed in Bangkok but they find the receit from a place in Pattaya, then what ???
also I had a lot postcards with pattaya inside my luggage,
had I lied about not being in pattaya, they would have found out after about 5 min. going through my stuff !!

It happened to my friend twice at LAX. In fact, they asked him why he had rubbers. He was shitting bricks. Luckily for him he didn't have any fun pictures of Pattaya because they checked everything.

Like you, I like to take pictures. The smart thing to do is not take pictures.

While I don't know anything about the legal system other than you don't want to be dealing with it, I would think that we are talking about 3 different levels of inspection here.

(1) Would be a normal secondary bag inspection. Your "number whatever". and they send you over to the table to open your bag. I see it happen to someone on every trip.

(2) If they ask you to empty out your pockets and turn your inside pockets out. That's not a "normal" secondary inspection, and I would at the least ask them what they expect to find.

(3) While they CAN do a rectal exam, something like this would need to have approval from at least a supervisory level agent.

I have only had one negative experience with the border agents, I got tired of hearing one of them yell at myself and other travelers upon returning from Brazil, prior to getting my passport checked. After clearing emigration I asked to see a supervisor, I talked to him, and was asked to point out the loud mouth.

Like others have said, AFTER they are done with you ask for their name and ID# and make it a written complaint. If anything it lets them know that you are not a sheep people.

Of course if you are dumb enough to bring back something illegal then you deserve to get caught!

Well THM you never want to lie to customs but you do want to leave out some information. So on your entry card you put down what countries you visited so never lie about this. But everything else you say can either omit info or "stretch" the truth. So if you say you visited Bangkok and they find Pattaya stuff you'd say you took a road trip down south. The point of my post was how to avoid going to secondary questioning. Once you do go into secondary it doesn't matter what you say since your already under suspicion. So if they did find your camera's memory in your pocket you'd have said, "oh so that's where I put it". It's not like you'd be in more trouble. Either way outside of them finding drugs or child porn on you they'd have to let you go eventually.

THM, as a fellow Chicagoan, I get the Ohare hassle problem, Ive had it a few times when I get back from LOS or even the DR. When they ask what I was doing there I say screwing whores. Just to add some perspective: there is nothing against U.S. law about going to see prostitutes in foreign countries so long as they are not under the age of 18. The problem is should immigration and customs decide you are a "sex tourist" they may note that in your records and then send you to secondary for harassment on future trips. The pretext they use for this is the Bush/Christian right notion, preposterous as it is, that sex tourism in many cases means perversion. So, they feel justified in monitoring sex tourists.

As to strip searches, they cannot do these willy nilly. They need reasonable suspicion of illegal activity. However, law enforcement is pretty damn good at manufacturing "reasonable suspicion" so the protections against such searches are not as strong as they should be.

The way customs and immigration has been treating us lately pisses me off to no end. It is as though they are KGB wannabes. I just hope (although am not entirely convinced) that when Obama becomes President, and Edwards Attorney General, things calm down a bit.

Regarding the Customs or INS [I guess they call them US Customs and Border Patrol, name is always changing-lol] as Laguy states they can pretty much justify doing what they want and get away with it, leaving you to grin and bear it for the few minutes involved [seems longer].I suggest you stand there thinking of the good times you just had while waiting to clear, trying NOT to smile too much. no other country in the world that claims to be free is doing what our CUSTOM AGENTS are doing, like asking these dumb ass questions,

a. what you do for a living ?
I would expect this question from a Vietnamese or Cuban immigration officer, not a U.S.officer

b. where did I stay and why ?
what places did I visit ? cities ?
if I was back in Romania under commnunism I would expect again these questions, but U.S.?

fooledagain1 !!! I wasnt a smart ass in answering their questions, but my reply that I'am old enough was right at the end, so by then I knew I would see secondary !! I could smell secondary was coming !

I came back from Pattaya and AC last week on a flight MNL-HKG-LAX-IAD and had to pass immigration and customs at LAX.

The immigration guy was grilling me about where I went and why I was there. I said that I was visiting friends in both countries, yada-yada and when he stamped my passport he broke out the red marker and circled the Customs emblem on my customs form and wrote down some numbers.

He must have written down code the customs guy as to what to look for. I ended up going through the full inspection at customs. Before I left AC I had deleted all nude pictures after I uploaded them to picaso. They didn't look at my photos but they could have.

They didn’t give me the full court press on inspection like they did THM and my inspection was only 5 minutes. One weird thing though, when I was done and about to leave, the Customs guy came around the inspection counter and asked if I was wearing socks and had me pull my pants up to show him and then I was out of there. I have no idea why he asked. Does anyone have a clue.

He was looking to see if you had stashed a flash drive, or something else in your sock.

Regarding custom - I remember walking across the Mexican border ïn Tijuana and a custom officer asking me what I was bringing back to the US: I responded with "Ï hope nothing". No anal searches resulted.... things might have changed
