What to name this report, I mulled with several names, such as: Lucy, I am home……BabaLuuuuuu…….Land before time……or even Back to the Future……however; the truth be known….if it is not nailed down…it will be gone……..
Travel to Cuba from the U.S. is interesting in itself. It is advised not to go via Canada as Air Canada supposedly shares the manifest with the U.S. government. For me, Canada would have been the easiest entry point.
When you arrive in Havana, you feel as if you have stepped back in time. Cars do not have catalytic converters, pollution is high and in the factories, there is no automation……only Manual labor……
As a matter of fact everything in Cuba is different; you can walk down the street, make eye contact with a girl and as you pass, you will hear “psst, psst, this will not be a working girl, but someone who is looking to make a few bucks on the side. It really adds another side to the mongering scene. On our (Copa, Jonesie and myself) first day, I saw a cute girl walking, I pointed her out to Jonsie. He asked me if I wanted her….and since it was so different, I decided to pass. Jonesie talked with her for a few minutes, cut a deal for himself and while we were all waiting for a cab, we watched as 3 undercover cops surrounded this girl and asked for her ID. These cops looked like tourists, one had shorts, one had jeans on and the third was dressed in linen pants. It was funny, the one cop in shorts, looked just like Elvis. After the cops left, we asked he what it was all about; (it is illegal for the local girls to be with tourists in Cuba), she said the cops asked why she was talking with tourists and she told them that we were just asking directions.
The key difference in Cuba for our hobby is the girls have to take a different taxi. They cannot be seen with us. However, there are several clubs similar to Help and very crowded to the point that you cannot even walk in them. Again, after you cut your deal, you have to take separate taxis back to your apartment or home.

Nice report Diversity. Did you you partake in their free health care? lol. How big were the Help clubs? How many gringos in them? How scared were you that Castro would join you in a three way? The real question is would you return?

Is this the National Geographic website or the Club Hombre website? I'm confused.

Diversity,
I for one enjoyed seeing the pictures of the local sights, especially the old cars. As you know I would have gone with you guys had I not had previous commitments. [ Next time!] And I KNOW you have lots of the "other kind" of photos too-lol

Diversity, most of those pictures would never be in Nat Geographic or anything touristy, trust me, in Canada they ALWAYS are advertising Cuba and you would never see pictures like that, those pictures really show the poverty and emptiness in Cuba. Wow. Cuba is different from other mongering spots, and I for one like your lead-in. I expect you will follow up with more about the chicas later.

Furysys....it was funny, I remember asking if I needed to wash the pesticide off of the fruit before I ate it.....guess what they cannot afford pesticide.....and it is obvious....they cannot afford paint either....but the girls make a great living.....as long as they don't get caught.....or they will be cutting sugar cane....

Hey JohnLennon-
Imagine not dredging up old posts just to offer fairly meaningless comments...

Branquino......are you kidding?...Johnlennon90210 is a breath of fresh air on this site. I am enjoying reading his posts and re-reading the old trip reports from the masters. Have you noticed how the trip reports lately have been few and far between. Keep posting Johnlennon!!

I'd agree with Jonnyroc. I'd be happy to read through some new reports rather than commentary from an enthusiastic new member.

As per definition any report over 72hrs old automatically goes into the archives. Only continued posts will keep it 'alive', even then the earlier posts will be archived and out of view. I don't know about anyone else, but I still haven't read all the archived reports/posts . This place is like the Library of Congress on many subjects! Having said that, it flies in the face of reason for anyone, new or veteran not to review the archives and if inclined post a comment. The quality of that post is not the real issue here. It is expected that everyone 'do their homework', now it's being criticized. It is every members right to review these archives and comment on them. If Hombre did not think them of value they would not be saved, archived and retrievable. Apparently it isn't a waste of band width as some members seem to indicate.
"ad nauseam"
