HOMBRECITO RETURNS TO RIO
Driving to the airport I was a basket case. I kept thinking about having 9 whole days in Rio. Sometimes the anticipation of a trip can be more enjoyable than actually being there. I thought about it and decided that had to be bullshit-no way thinking about a Terma beats being there. As I boarded the flight, I was concerned a little bit about being too excited to sleep, but I had brought some Ambiens just in case. Sure enough, after dinner and an Ambien, I passed out within 20 minutes and my next memory was waking up during the breakfast service. Wow-Those tiny little pills sure do work. About an hour later and we were in GIG. What a great feeling when the plane touched down in Rio. I'd finally made it back.
Clearing customs took a little longer, but I was better oriented once I got through and I caught a cab quickly into town. Here's a tip for you-Always keep 40 Reais in your Passport when you go home. You'll need it for the taxi your return trip, and can avoid the crappy exchange at the airport (you can thank GCL for that one). With the time change the flight arrived mid-morning and the drive downtown was much smoother and soon I was in the lobby of the Debret.
HOTEL DEBRET
After a good overall experience last time, I decided to repeat at the Debret. I said hi to the nice receiptionista who helped me out a lot last time. My room was being cleaned, but it would be ready in 30 min. So that gave me an excuse to go exchange some money and run a few errands. I walked to a cambio and was quoted 3.35 R/$1. Better than I expected, but not as good as an ATM, so I walked the 7 or so blocks to the Citibank ATM in Blockbuster. As advertised, it's easy to use and I got 3.54 R/ $1 and I was able to pull 2000 R by doing two 1000 R withdrawls. I don't recommend withdrawing this much cash, but I was told 1000 R was a limit per day by an hombre, and I can verify it is not.
Back at the Debret I got a similar room to last time on a different floor and I got unpacked. Even though I slept eight hours on the flight, I was dead tired and I took a brief nap. I've flirted with the tall morena with glasses (name escapes me?). She's not married, no kids.
