It all started with a shirt. Over the last few years as I’ve moved up the corporate ladder, I started getting all of my shirts custom-made. They weren’t cheap, but I looked great. Next I wanted to get some suits done, and I did the comparisons from cheap Dominican tailors on the Lower East Side to the upscale Madison Avenue shops to the visiting Asian tailors in the hotels. I couldn’t find a price/quality combo that made me happy. I had been told by several people that the cost of custom-made clothes in Hong Kong is unbelievable – so I started doing online research. In addition to Hong Kong, Bangkok kept coming up, and if the websites were to be believed, they offered even better value for the dollar. So I started doing research on Bangkok. This was around July 2002. One search led to another and somehow I clicked on the Stickman’s Guide to Naughty Nightlife in Bangkok. Call me naïve (and I’m not from a New York point of view) but I got hooked fast. I’ve always liked Asian women and love Asian food, Thai food in particular and I started thinking, why not? I have a ton of vacation time accumulated, things are going great at work, I’m doing better than ever financially and I haven’t been in a committed relationship in almost a year. There was no reason not to go. I spent all of my free hours for the next two weeks trying to learn everything I could about Thailand. Man, there’s a lot of information available. Thankfully, in one of my searches, Club Hombre came up and it bolstered my need to go even more. Now, I don’t consider myself a Monger and sexual adventures were not my only (or even main) reason for going to Thailand. But I’m not one to back away from a good time. I decided I would leave for 10 days and set the target date as November 1. As background, I’m 38, white, never married and live in New York City.
