This report picks up where my Costa Rica trip left off. Met up with Jonesie and the Good Doctor(a physician from Costa Rica) after checking in at Taca Airlines for our 2 hour and 15 minute trip to Havana.

Couple things about leaving CR to Cuba: 1. You must pay your $26 exit fee before checking in. 2. You must purchase a $15 Tourist visa card from the airline and fill it out. 3. You must fill out your departure card from Costa Rica. 4. Exchange your US dollars to Euros before you get to the airport or while in the States...whichever gets you the best rate.(more on that later)

Arriving in Havana is a total mindfuck. There are individual booths that you must go to and getting the right immigration official is a crap shoot. Probably better off just writing down a fictitious hotel instead of dealing with questions about the Casa Particular you are staying in. The lady at immigration was interrogating me for a good 15 minutes of stupid questions that she knew the answer to. They had two other officials talk to her and she finally let me through. You go through customs and then be prepared for about an hour wait or more to get your bags. Cubans bring the equivalent of an entire apartment and there are tons of giant duffle bags filled with goodies. They do check to see if your baggage claim tag matches your bags so dont lose them. Jonesie had to bring a shower door for our contact guy so it was interesting getting out of there. You should exchange all your money at the airport. Remember that the US dollar gets fucked when changing to the Cuban Convertible Peso. They have it listed as .9 to 1 dollar and they put a 10% "fuck you" penalty on top of that. Using Euros will get you about 15% more in your exhange for equal value. Sounds crazy but true. A trip from the airport to your hotel should cost anywhere from $20-25CUC.

You lose an hour going to EST so we didnt arrive at our Casa Particular until around 1am or so after arriving around 10:30pm. We met one of our Miami Cuban buddies at the lobby at the Melia Cohiba and discussed a game plan for the week. We were staying at a nice Casa Particular with an ocean view in a 17 story building two blocks from the Melia Cohiba Hotel. The place is a classic Cuban home with the interesting older furniture. The owner was a heart surgeon and had modern art all over the house. I had the room with the ocean view. It costs me $30CUC a night and breakfast in the morning was $6CUC which included eggs, ham, fresh fruit, fresh fruit juice, coffee and bread.

We didnt get out to look for girls until 3:30am. Our first stop was the "Candy Store" at the Havana Libre Hotel and it was then that I received my first major blow to my trip. The Candy Store is an amazing place with hundreds of insanely hot girls every night and the place was being CLOSED for renovation....FUCK! We then went by Salon Rojo and it was slow so eventually made it over to Delirio Habanero in Varadero. Its a small disco with a DJ and/or karaoke type artists. There is a small bar to the back and you can order food if you like. Very few mongers there so we were surrounded as soon as we sat down. I did notice a real hottie right off the back and she wanted to leave right then but chose to keep looking instead(big mistake). Jonesie ended up taking her.
