Finally!!! Here's the new (7th) edition of the Rio guide. I've tried to update everything possible. Also added a few new sections, expanded some others (more info on cheap "fast foda" casas; more restaurants), updated others (escort agencies, changes in termas, etc.). Enjoy!

This time I've only made it available in pdf format. This was done in part to try to discourage those who pirate it and try to profit from it. One of our members took my last version and was selling it for $10/copy on a commercial site. A note from my lawyer put an end to that. It's intended to be free, a partial repayment for all the help other guys gave me when I was a novice back a few decades ago. So, please don't sell the damn thing, but feel free to share. Contact me, though, if you want to post it elsewhere. It is copyrighted, so you need permission to do so.

I saved it a reduced format so it should fit easily on Blackberrys, iPhones, Treos, etc.

Back to Rio in about 45 days for me. An investigative journalist's work is never done!

It's been almost two years, so everyone needs to put sometime next March 2010 on their calendars as the second funeral for Sweet. His three years in the wall will be up and I assume/hope the plan is still to have the cremation done and the ashes dropped into the ocean in Copa as he wanted.

A yr ago when i visited Vargas 590 rm 1317 it was no longer a massagem (moved out) &
Evarista do Veiga 47 apt 501, 502, 701, 702 were gone (see my January 23, 2008 post in Massage Parlor Discussion thread)
Termas Aquarius door was only 5 when i was there last yr (per my January 31, 2008 post in Termas: Aqarius Termas, Downtown Rio thread)

Sweet was a good guy. It's hard to tell the story here. There are some posted stories about Sweetmesquite from around the time he passed away. If you search back a little less than 2 years, you should find lots posted here. Maybe someone else can point to some good links.

Is there an HTML version? For whatever reason I am unable to view a PDF file.

You just need to download Adobe PDF reader. If you already have, two things could be the problem. One, you have full Adobe or an older version of PDF reader that's conflicting with a later version. Or, when you first install it, the first time you try and read a PDF, a small box pops up that you have to select "accept terms and conditions blah blah". Sometimes this pops up in the background and you may not see it and think the PDF won't open when, in fact, it's Reader needing a prompt.

A few updates:

Help is still open. I attended "closing night" and there were reporters and TV crews covering the event. It seemed a little more like a funeral than a celebration. And the next evening Help was open! The owners of Help and the government did sign a binding agreement indicating that Help will close by Nov. 15th, meaning that the last night, in all likelihood, is Nov. 14th. We'll see.

Termas 53 on R. Sá Ferreira is closed. There's no sign on the door, and the closing seems permanent. Its sister Copacabana termas, Termas 22, is still open.

Restaurants come and go. As has been noted elsewhere, Kilograma is closed and will be replaced by Frontera. There are bunches of good new restaurants...Rio is a great eating city. It's no longer an inexpensive city for eating, but the options are many and mostly excellent.

If you believe the signs, the metro station at General Osório Park will open in mid-December. This will make stays in the upper end of Ipanema more convenient.

And here are a couple of answers to the most Fucking Annoying Questions (FAQ) I get asked:

Q: Which termas is the best?
A: Whichever one you're in. The character of the termas changes constantly, as does the composition of the girls working in them. Add to that the fact that guys' tastes are quite individual, and you can see there's no good answer to this question. Last time I was in town I hated Centaurus--absolutely hated it--and one of my friends loved it. This trip I spoke with a guy that told me that MC sucked. I went and had a blast. There are no shortcuts--you have to go and figure it out on your own. You may pass on some because of their location (I rarely go to Praia Club 400 because of the distance) or policies (Centaurus and their gringo tax), but if you want to figure out which ones are right for you, you can't rely on the opinions of others.

Q: Which termas has the hottest girls?
A: See above. I see guys fucking girls I wouldn't touch with DonGringo's dick, but they think the girls are hot. I'm sure there are guys that feel the same way about some of the girls I pull. That's the ways it is. There is no "Termas With the Hottest Girls" in Rio. If there were, it would be too crowded to get into. And every termas except possibly some of the small 2nd tier places will have a few very doable girls.

Q: Which girl is a "Must Fuck"?
A: See above. It's all about chemistry. There was a girl I fucked who was a top-25 fuck--three-holer, BBBJTC (swallowed), and totally nasty but affectionate as well. Another guy told me she gave him a Rio Tourist Fuck--hurried CBJ, starfish sex, and no anal. I've done girls that received rave reviews from others where I thought they were mediocre at best. It's possible our standards were different, but more likely that the chemistry was different. When it comes to sex with GdPs, YMMV is the operative phrase.
