As the GB£ heads south and the UK economy slides towards third world status, the prospect of being able to travel to distant lands for my mongering delights becomes a far-off dream. So what better time than now to revisit some of the home-grown opportunities that exist here in London.

In the past I have frequented the excellent Sacred Rose Parties and had some delightful experiences, and I have been meaning for some time to post a TR on this board describing the fun to be had at these events. Sacred Rose closed down for the latter part of 2008 while it went through some sort of reorganisation, but it re-opened with a 2009 New Year party. I decided to check out their new setup, and booked up for one of their afternoon sessions. They now offer three 2-hour parties per day during the week: 12-2pm, 3-5pm and 6-8pm. Price is £100 for a whole 2 hours and £80 for one hour only. I decided to book for the 3pm party on the basis that most people with a regular job would opt for one of the other sessions. This strategy worked with a vengeance: I was the only punter there!

I was greeted by Mel, one of the delightful hostesses and introduced to Nicole, who I had met at a previous event last year. The third scheduled hostess was not there; presumably she was not called in due to the scarcity of party guests. Never mind, a 2:1 ratio in my favour was OK with me. Normally Sacred Rose aims for a ratio of 1 hostess per 2 guests, which works quite well, so one would normally expect 6 punters and 3 hostesses at an average party. I was looking forward to having two girls giving me their undivided attention.

About 50% of Sacred Rose girls come from Brazil, with the reminder being a mix of Polish, Brits and other European. Both Mel and Nicole were Brazilian. I concur. I visited sacredrose while going thru London last summer. At that time they had some sort of special for a 2 hour party with 3 girls for 90 quid. Even at the 2:1 exchange rate that was cheap for first world sex.

The decline in the pound has made some things cheaper, but in terms of hotels, food, etc, the purchasing power of $1 = 1 pound, pretty much. It is expensive to hobby in the first world.

As a Londoner, I probably know less about where to get cheap accommodation in town than most overseas visitors. What a lot of tourists do is stay in an out-of-town hotel, of which there are three close to where I live (chains like Holiday Inn, Travelodge, etc). These can be had for as little as £25 a night. Downside is that you have to spend £5+ for a return rail ticket into the center of town. Taxi fares in London are of course outrageous.
Conclusion: its never going to be cheap to hobby in the UK unless you are staying with a friend.
