The Pimps of Salvador
My brother and I went for 3 days to Salvador de Bahia in April 2009, mostly because he had a bad conscience for just visiting seedy Rio, he wanted to show the people back home that he was visiting Brazil, not just Rio.
Of course, we wanted to check the action, and now we know why there is so little
interest in traveling there for the girls. There are girls, but the way it’s done is
expensive and unpleasant.
We stayed at a great little place – the Pousada Encanto de Itapoan.
This pousada is about 25 minutes outside the center, in a quiet pleasant neighborhood,
with excellent restaurants, 50 yards from a fantastic beach with clear water the temperature of your bath tub.
They are guest friendly, but charge R$33 extra. The owners are a British woman and a Brazilian man. He has all the information about where the girls are, and tells you the details with a glimt in his eye.
Night action: There was sex club within walking distance, ”Private” (I hope I remember the name right), with a similar setup as the other more well known clubs, like Eros and Free Night. Unfortunately the setup is a ripoff. R$40 to enter, R$50 to take a girl out,
expensive beer (I don’t remember exactly what the price was) , and only mini champagne available for the ladies, at R$50 a bottle.
This bullshit setup does not encourage one to linger in the club, because it immediately gets ridiculously expensive. We tried to choose a girl and get out as fast as possible. Surely all guys employ the same strategy, that’s why the place was almost empty. Despite us hurrying it cost us R$360 (for both) just to be there, for maybe an hour, in the club, and leaving sober. But at least we had two nice girls with us. The total sounded right, according to their price list, but they did make a small mistake in adding things up, so we paid R$60 more than it should have been.
The girls turned out to be very nice, GFE, but did not stay all night (neither of us wanted them to stay), and cost R$200 each.
In fact, one was so nice, that I met up with her again the next day during the day, but since she apparently lives in annex to the club, she insisted that she had to pay the owner (whom we met the day before – and who is one of the sleaziest Italians I have ever met),
the R$50 exit fee for her. Of course, I will never know whether I was taken by the girl or the owner…. lol.
Day action: What about picking up some girls at the beach? The beach in front of the pousada was quiet and there were no apparent GDP’s. We planned to take a taxi to quite distant Barra Beach, but were told by the owner of the puosada that at Santissima Beach (formerly Cascinhas de Siri) there would be GDP’s, and this beach is much closer.
There we ran into the beach pimps. We tried to connect with two hot black girls sitting in the sand, but they were literally dragged away from us by the restaurant owner, put at a table, and we were then told that we would need to consume something in order to take them with us.
All the girls seem to belong to restaurants, and each of the owners/pimps told us that we would need to consume something before taking any girls with us.
OK – so we did, what can a few beers cost?
A lot, of course, because somehow charges were added for food that the girls had consumed earlier, and the girls confirmed that they had. So the “ few beers” cost R$150, we have been had again.
The girls? Actually, the two that came with me for a dupla (at R$150 each) were great.
(My brother had enough already and told me that he would save himself for Rio).
These two mulattas created quite a stir at the pousada, dancing funk and introducing themselves to the other middle aged British couples there, while forgetting to dress properly for the occasion….
Summary: I know quite well how Brazil works, and have been coming to Rio regularly for 6 years. There is no doubt about why Rio is so popular for mongering, and not just because of the number of girls.
It is that the interaction between the men and the GDP’s is transparent in Rio, clear and fixed pricing in termas, simple negotiation between the guy and the girl about the price, in Help or on the beach. No middle men, no pimps.
In Salvador we could not avoid the pimps, whether it was outrageous pricing at a club or super aggressive muscle guys on the beach. One could not talk with a woman there, without one or several of them running up to us to take charge, and to take his share of the gringo money. To get in contact with a girl seemed to cost almost as much as the girl herself.
Very unpleasant! That the girls were nice and hot, and quite inexpensive, could not outweigh the other problem.
My simple advice: If you go to Salvador, go for the beaches, and for the quite interesting historic center. For meeting Brazilian girls – continue going to Rio.

For some reason Garota 1 doesn't want to post - I sent it to Club Hombre for them to post.

Good rpt.
Salvador is one of only a few cities i didnt like much of the 30-40 cities/towns in brazil i've visited this yr. P4P overpriced, pros unattractive, city & tourism overrated. Beaches dirty & stinky, Nearest decent beaches are at least 100km away on Ilha de Boipeba, Morere, & Itacare. The historical ctr, Pelourinho, is interesting.
Better p4p & nicer beaches in/near Maceio, Recife, Natal, Fortaleza, etc.

Skisandy,
What a wonderful report. Sounds like you found too many ways to get ripped off. The part about paying for what the girls consumed before you got there was especially interesting. Ah, Brazil; there's no place like it in the world!

Just as a side note, Nordestina's generally are not known for their beauty within Brazil. All my male Brazilian friends in Rio can pick-out a girl from the north of Brazil within a second...and "beautiful" rarely crosses their lips in the same sentence. I did not particularly like Salvador very much either. A few years ago I spent a long weekend there and was ready to come home (to Rio) early. I do not think I have ever in my life been bothered so much on the streets for people begging for money. For a taste of the north of Brazil, simply go to Sao Cristovao in Rio. Every weekend it gets going, peaking at 1-2am on a Saturday night. Plenty of Forro, food from the north, and easy women.... just do not expect quality! Quantity, yes...

"I do not think I have ever in my life been bothered so much on the streets for people begging for money."
LOL, it is bad in Salvador, but is nothing compared to what I experienced in Addis Ababa. Not only were there literally thousands of beggars on the streets, but the competition was so fierce that I was fending off aggressive beggars who were tugging at my clothes, dropping on the ground in front of me, and so on. I felt like those people in the Verizon commercials--always being followed by a huge crowd.
Salvador and Bahia are great, but not for mongering. The people I met were incredibly warm and welcoming, and I love both the music and food of the region. But on average, the women leave something to be desired. There are certainly exceptions, but not enough of them to make it a major mongering destination in a country that's full of them.
I'll be spending a bit of time this coming 12 months north of Bahia, mainly in Sergipe, Alagoas and Pernambuco, and hope to explore the p4p scenes while doing so.

Consider the begging an improvement, ten years ago they were taking without asking, often spilling some blood during the transaction.

As usual I like your taste in women Skisandy. Sometimes I feel lucky I only have time for Rio.
