On my virgin trip a few years ago I stayed at Chang An hotel, but nowadays I will only stay at the Hua Yu Spring Hotel which is a MUCH better option. It is conveniently located a rock throw away from 2 of the best asian massage parlors (AMPs) in Zhuhai. This hotel is much newer than the Chang An and the rooms reflect this, being bigger, more modern and more styling as well. Walk in prices are a bit high, but if you email the hotel manager, and request a discounted rate based on a recommendation from a friend from the states, you’ll probably get charged under 250rmb/night.
Directions: walk down LHL past the beer bars, then cross the street with traffic. Spring Hotel will be on your left side right before you hit Jin Yu Hotel/sauna. You will probably see 1-2 lovely Chinese girls trying to get you into the hotel for their foot massages which are great but somewhat pricey at 35rmb/hr or approximately $5 usd/hr.

Hopefully the manager speaks some English, many hotels near the fun had smallish rooms, and very few of the staff spoke any English.

That does raise the question...can you get along with no Chinese language skills? I didn't see any signage that didn't use Chinese characters, other than the street signs.

BD, it is a challenge in Zhuhai if you don't speak at least a few words of Chinese (u eat a lot of wonton soup), but its part of the adventure. Even with no english, it is next to impossible not to get a hottie there, just stand outside for a few minutes. But the trick is negotiating services, rates, ST/LT etc. In the Saunas, they give you a card full of "services" in Mandarin, I just point at random and have gotten some crazy sessions. Gotta get all biz cards to where you are going and where you are coming from.
Ironically, lots, lots of people want to practice their "English" with you once they discover you're from abroad. One guy I met at the outdoor bar, I couldnt understand his English; when I asked what he did, he said he taught english!

Merl, the manager speaks decent english. If you go to Zhuhai, give me a ring and I'll let him know you're coming.
Bwana, thanks for the link! Yes, you can get by without chinese but it's best to learn some for dealings with the street girls. Still, it's not necessary.

The language is Mandarin or can you get by with Cantonese? Are the asian mongers that you've seen locals or Japanese and/or Korean?

Thanks, Merlin and Socrates. I've traveled elsewhere in China, but in places where I was able to function without language skills. I have a trip to Hong Kong coming up, and am considering a quick trip to somewhere new. Zhuhai might be a challenge, but it looks like a great place.

I want to add, it's important to stay on or very near lhl for the sg action and to be close to the amps as well. This will make it easier to get sgs, and play the numbers game if you have to.
