Conclusion: Zhuhai is no Chang Ping as far as quantity, but you’ll be sure to find the quality and service great enough to satiate your needs, and the low-cost amps and shopping can’t be beat! If you’re by the area I recommend at visit!

Great Report Socrates! The best I have seen in a while on China!

By Erip on Thursday, May 07, 2009 - 01:40 pm:  Edit

Add me to the chorus Socrates. Motivated me to do all kinds of research on this city and area of China. I wanna go....with someone who speaks Mandarin or Cantonese. Shit do I love the chinese girls! And the whole region looks to be worth traveling to even if you don't monger.

What about hiring a translator/guide when in this part of the world? It is safe to say that there is no fucking way that I will ever be able to learn more than 10 words of Mandarin, and that would be an ambitious estimate.

Wickipedia acknowledges that this city is famous for "rent a hotties", but warns that prostitution is clearly illegal and that it would be a very bad thing to get nabbed by the police. I assume this is a typical cya disclaimer (the comment was in the travel section of the site), and that prostitution is wide open and fully tolerated within its bounds as evidenced by the fact that you and Merlin have visited over many years. But do you have any comment to add as to legal risks?

By Crazier on Thursday, May 07, 2009 - 04:13 pm:  Edit

Prostitution has always been illegal in China and still is today.

There were 3 notable "sweeps" of vice activities in recent years.

1) In Zhuhai, some Japanese corporation organised a huge mass orgy in a leading hotel with hundreds of Chinese whores and it was just too much at one venue drawing too much attention. They made sure the Japanese and their local contacts learn once again that China has never forgotton nor forgiven the Japanese for the "Nanking rape" during the war.

2) The island of Hainan was once the epicentre of whoring in China and some said that there was a willing girl to be found under each coconut tree then. It just got too big to be tolerated. There was also the ambition that Hainan become a leading tropical island destination to rival the best in the region. So, the island's pickings are a shadow of it's old self not that you cannot find enough to keep you busy for a visit.

3) In one of the districts of Shenzhen which is a huge city, it got too rampant at one locale and the Cong An moved in, arrested the ladies and some of the customers and paraded them in public. This made the news all over the world.

4) Prior to these recent enlightened years, Chinese authorities arrested Asian mongers from abroad and stamped on their passports that fact. Family members (preferably wife) were required to show up for the mongers to be released. Notably, a Hong Kong opposition politician was "exposed" mongering in China and arrested with huge public shame.

Unless you are obnoxious and just too high profile, or making too much of your presense, the local authorities will likely ignore your happy enjoyment. They do target the girls for supplementing their income - when the rope in the girls into the wagon on LHL, the mamis have to pay a "ransom" to get them released or, the girls spend the night in the lock up doing chores so I am told. Forget what the amount is.

Warning: some local thugs do target unknowing foreigners with all sorts of scams, e.g. you have a girl in your room and the door bell goes and outside the "husband" starts to kick up a huge fuss about you seducing his wife! And more .....

Hope this helps you get some perspective.

Great summary Crazier, I'd add that wife #2 can bail you out as well :-)

Erip, I've not had any problems in China, but I do try to stay extra low key -- i.e. no 200 gal orgies like the Japanese dudes. I wouldn't say hobbying is wide open, like in Thailand, or fully tolerated. IMO, the Chinese govt, like other Asian countries, seem espec. sensitive about getting embarassed, and I often see crackdowns coinciding with major events or if they sense things are getting too out of hand in one venue. They cracked down hard in certain areas of Shanghai and other cities right before the Olympics. All in all, the odds are with you that you'll have a good time. I got to know many guys that travel regularly to China and have not heard of any arrests or bad experiences.

crazier, thanks for your insights on china!

erip, glad you enjoyed the write up.

Personally, I wouldn't hire a translator, too many cons in zhuhai. Best to go to the outdoor cafes as there are worldy people there who can help with translation even some of the cafe bar girls! At the least you should learn to say: yes, no, thank you, no thank you, as well as counting from 0-10, 100. Good luck!

Soc, thanks for the report, describing one more out-of-this world destination and why it is so good. Your specifics are appreciated, I just hope I can utilize them one day soon.

Soc, Great report. It's making me think I need to take the ferry back over there to give ZH another try.

Guys, take his advice and start learning at least a few words of Mandarin. Your life will be MUCH easier here. And please don't over-pay! LOL

Also, take Crazier's advice and remain low-key. A big poker game here in Shenzhen that was quite popular got closed down because it was too visible. The host of the game is a Chinese-European and was in tight with the local cops (which is how it was able to grow), but the game got so big and well-known that it was causing the next higher level of police to notice it so they had to shut it down. You can't VISIBLY flout the laws of China!

Whenever vice crimes get too obvious, then Face trumps Bribes and so they have to do a raid. The vice goes back below the radar, Face is restored, and money starts to flow again. Win/Win... at least as long as you were not the one they chose to make an example of!

Play safe, and Hao3Yun4 (good luck).

Soc, but how do you know what you're saying "yes" and "no" to??? But yeah, suppose I could attempt the challenge of perhaps the first 1-2 Pimsleur lessons. But lets face it, for most of us, Chinese is not just another language, it's as good as interplanetary. Hey - even an old expression: "It's Chinese to me" - i.e. fagetaboutit! Downloaded Pimsleur Japanese lesson one just on a lark - and was laughing about a minute into it at the idea that I could say those words without a live teacher putting me through it.

Anyhow, I despise and envy you. If you are EVER in L.A. again, give me a scream out. I'll take you to Lawry's for Prime Rib (to make sure I don't have to watch you eating bugs and snakes), and ask you a few million questions.

Crazier & Merlin, thanks for the responses. The big bust of that Japanese party made news in the U.S., but I didn't take note of the city where it happened. But did they have the jail space to hold hundreds of hookers? My Mexico mongering grounds aren't stricly legal either, so I can understand the the balance you're describing between the "industry" and the police.

And btw, I got plenty of girls, but no coconut trees. So if Hainan has got coconut trees and some have beautiful chinese girls growing alongside the coconuts, that's appealing!!!

Thanks Caballeros (that's spanish - spoken in Spain and many parts of the Western Hemisphere in multiple dialects)!

By Crazier on Saturday, May 09, 2009 - 02:27 am:  Edit

In Hainan, the girls have gone from the coconut trees into BBS, KTVs and Saunas.

As usual, prices have escalated given the shrinkage.

I would not recommend Hainan today as you can get coconut trees almost anywhere tropical / equatorial but girls, CP & Zhuhai are recommended.
