NAKURU

A small city of a couple of hundred thousand. Less hectic than NBO, more of small town feel with the locals a bit more engaging and eager to hang and be pals. Made some good real friends there who I am sure to party with again. Most of the girls are non-pros and even the semi's what they really hope for is to score a boyfriend. Did not run into any hard cores but I am sure they are around.

Getting there: 2 hours northeast of NBO by bus. You can catch the minibus at the main bus depot downtown, any taxi can get you there. Is not too far from Simmers. The mini's leave every hour to two hours, a bit unpredictable as they wait until they fill up so try and find one that is almost full but it must be direct. I forget the exact cost but is posted everywhere, less than 500K.

Things to do: a couple of lakes nearby to go hiking and check out pink flamingos. Also a gateway to one of the big safari trip areas about an hour away.

Places to stay:

Merica Hotel is likely the best place. I was quoted 4000K/night. A very nice hotel with a pool. Did not stay there as a local buddy recommended a much better value place where I was happy to stay at.

Dimples has rooms on site for 1000K/night. Basic but clean and adequate and in a pinch can serve for more than a one night crash site.

Avenue Suites: this is a key rec. Very good value for 1600K/Night. Center of town, close to all the venues. Safe, clean, comfortable, air con, hot water, no pool. Restaurant in premises (chinese) adequate (which is to say a lot in Kenya).

Mongering sites/ places to meet chicks:

Walking around, market, Merica Hotel by the pool. Millennium Hotel on Government Ave or Kipchoge Ave. At night they make room for a dance floor and place music. The place is mostly outdoors, with 3 separate bars, 4 pool tables, and seats about 100 people. On weekend nights the place is packed with twice that number.


Dimples Disco is small but always lively on the weekends, pretty happening on Wed night as well. It's located at the west end of Kenyatta Rd, near the roundabout. I scored 4 chicks here and could have scored many more. Details on the women's section.

Coco Savana Disco on Club Road, big place with two levels: dead on wed night when I checked it but supposedly pumping on weekends. This is where the hardcores gravitate to suppossedly.

Taidy's restaurant is an eating and party joint located along Ebrahim road. it includes a nightclub that is a popular hangout for the youth on weekends. Good place to hook up. I met a lovely non pro here who sexed me up big time, the girl was always ready to go, pure GFE, never asked for one bob.

I also went to a couple of "locals" bars along the main road. In fact one is close to Avenue Suites, forget the name, if you are coming out of Avenue Suites make a left, at the first intersection make another left, shortly after turning look right and up...there is a bar/dance place there. Please do not walk to far down this street....very sketchy...I did only cuz I had my Kenyan buddy with me (who happens to be very buff) and he took the role of bodyguard to keep the nasty street walkers and sketchy drugged out urchins away from me. At any rate at this bar I picked up a chick who was making out with me like it was going out of style...talk about having a vaccuum in your mouth. Details in report later. This place is all locals, I was the only white. Everybody was super cool there, the manager was treating me like I was some kind of VIP. Every chick will check you out at least once. The guys were chill, not one of them gave me so much as a dirty look.

Tickles and XTC disco were mentioned, I checked them out and they were shut down (permanently?) when I was there.

Nakuru is ok for a couple of days just to get more of a different feel than the big Kenyan city.
