Depending on where you are traveling from, most flights to Rio are red eyes. Leave late at night, fly all night and arrive early morning. I live in Fla. and depart Miami.

I would recommend you fly Thursday or Friday to Rio (American, Delta and many other domestics)then catch Varig or Tam to Fernando de Naronha (I'll have to check on the closest airport. (Cant recall name. Too many airports over the years.) You will be able to secure a dive package through a local dive shop. They can probably recommend the best places to stay locally and probably have all inclusive package deals. Do an internet web search on the city. I'll bet there are dive shops listed. I would do an afternoon dive (just 1 on first day because you will be exhausted) Get the dive guides to tell you where the local chicas are. I would consider either two or three dives the next day and blowout the evening.

Next day, I would fly Varig or Tam to Porto Alegre or Santa Catalina and plan the rest of the week there. You will be impressed with the fair skinned Europeans there and like most of Brazilian women, they keep themselves in very good shape. Lot's of blue eyed blonds.

To find them; first look in the local paper Zero Hora in the classifieds. Only on Tuesday (the day you arrive), Thursday and Sunday Look for "Classificados Servicios Professionais", 06/03 Acomphantes. Literally, hundreds of ads. Maybe three to four pages. I also suggest buying a guia das ruas (street guide 200+ pages for about RS10)available in the liviaria Globo bookstore downtown. Remember, this ain't Rio so it is easy to get around and walking is pretty safe as are the Taxis.

There are lots of houses advertising programas for everything from plain massage to completa. One good thing about Porto Alegre is the prices. About half of Rio prices.

Streetwalkers: -Rua Voluntarios da Patria around the Vitoria Hotel, some decent looking and fairly young (18-24) girls hang out and will somewhat accost you without being pushy. Programa is to take you to a local love hotel for 15-60 minutes. Price varies with time; -During daytime, you can find them around Praca de Alfandega near the Shopping Rua da Paraia no rua das Andradas. -late afternoon, I had good luck near the Hotel Bandeira on rua Pinto Bandeira.

There are a lot of clubs near the airport. Most of them are listed in the tourists magazine "programa". They are available in most hotels...he he!

Best ones I recall- Vermelho 27, Rua Pelotas Madrigal Av Farrapos Swing Night Club Av Farrapos Gruta, Caleche, Kymball, Erectus, all on Av Farrapos They are everywhere

Escort agencies;

They advertise university students and models. More expensive. $150-200RS for 1-2 hours. They will show you photos and girls are available for sex (of course)

Botique de Camelias-All girls supposedly have regular jobs (or so they say). Normally ST for 1-1 1/2 hours. You can see photos here as well.

Flirting: Something I really enjoy in hopes of finding a non-pro GF for a couple of days. Try the Dado Bier (about 15 minute taxi ride from downtown) or la Comorra in Av Guerte. Many like to watch the sunset at Gasometro (gas storage).

Ok, now with the language;

I called and then visited a local language school and hired an advanced student who was willing to be my guide for free just to be able to practice his English. I paid him $15-20 per day depending on how long he stayed with me based on the fact a full time secretary receptionist only earns about $150-200RS per month. It was a real bargain. Be careful here though. The first two I interviewed were girls. I didn't think it would work out well for my intended purposes. One of them got the picture real fast and started coming on to me. Said she had lots of friends who would like to meet me and started pimping. Funny as hell but I declined. The guy I got was a young college student. Pretty handsome young man. During the interview, I told him I was interested in some sightseeing, we would rent a car and drive around or take taxis. I slipped in I might like to find a female friend to accompany us and asked if that would be a problem. He got a sly grin on his face and said, "mister, I will show you where all the most beautiful women are in Porto Alegre" Hired him on the spot. Know what? Turned out to be a great coup for him. Bought his drinks, food and he was prancing around everywhere we went showing off his catch (me) to his friends and family. He earned it though. Everywhere we went he helped me pick out the best girls, with the best attitudes and negotiated local Brazilian prices for their services. Beat up the taxi drivers on their fares and more. One night, I saw one I thought was a knockout. He told me to stay away from her that she was a real bitch. Another night he was pushing me towards one that was about a 7. She was surrounded by 8's and 9's. He kept telling me, "the best in the house" I finally succumbed. One of the rare times when I got one out of a night club and her appearance actually improved out of the dark lights. So did the body. The only other thing I would consider would be a night or two stop over in SP or Rio but I would wait for the end of my week rather than the beginning. If you do your stopover at the beginning, you just may never make it to Porto Alegre.
