Just of curiosity, why is 8.50 pesos equal to 85 cents. The Dollar has hovering in the 13 range for over a year now. Just my opinion, that 10:1 is complete bullshit.

Dollar has strengthened a bit against the peso - currently hovering at 12.5 pesos per $1 - down from 13 and way down from the crazy days earlier in 2009 when the rate was hitting 16-1. So still a much better deal than 10 X 1 and merchants in TJ aren't ripping anybody off with the exchange rate. They used to do that regularly when the rate was closer to 10-1 - easier to "round off". Change your money to pesos and you have no issues. If you don't, as sometimes I don't, and you pay $1 for a 10 peso taco at a cart and don't get a couple of dimes back in change, it's on you.

I put both dollars & pesos in the TR for those who only carry one or the other. In this case, the bus drivers don't have calculators. They expect 85cents from gringos. Yes, pesos are a better deal.
