The crazy doctor was up moving, showering, then packing well before the 7 am. wake-up call. Breakfast, and sent out 1 e-mail to my associates back here. Mini-van pick-up was early i.e. 08:20. Only 1 guy with me to the airport, a retired gemologist from Lucerne, Swiss, named Peter. More passangers boarded, but no one beside me. The ride to town via Bell Travel was smooth as Thai silk, confirmed by my dozing off. Price = 350 THB. Got to the "Sandy Springs Hotel" exactly at 12:15, and what a beauty room(s) for 3,300 a night! Immediately went to get my reading glasses repaired (I sat on them by accident), and bought some postcards & stamps.
At 1:30 went to "El Toro" for lunch. Had their pork chop special, which included a pea soup, garlic bread, roasted potatoes with bacon, broccoli & cauliflower in a cream sauce. Ordered Lipton tea (cold) and a garden salad with Rocquefort dressing, as extras. Bill came to 621.50 THB.
Back in the room to rest @ 14:40. Did so until 18:40. Felt great at this point i.e. almost normal.

What a nice hotel room. How much is 3300 baht in US money?
By Whitty on Sunday, February 21, 2010 - 02:46 pm: Edit |
just under $100

Thanks. If I had kept reading before posting my question, Jagger gives the exchange rate in a later day's post.

Do the rooms have a safe in them?
By Segue99 on Sunday, February 21, 2010 - 11:26 pm: Edit |
As of 4 years ago, the Sandy Spring did not have safes in the room.

Can you tell me about the room? I noticed that the suite's have a tub and shower, is that a normal tub or is it also a jacuzzi tub?

Sandy Springs has gotten really expensive. I used to stay at this hotel years ago. The place is definitely not worth 3300 Baht when you can get a one bedroom suite at LK Metropole/Renaissance for 75 USD (~2500 Baht) a night on Agoda. I just booked a Ruen Thai Paradise room at Sabai Resort for a quick trip in May for 50 USD a night.
Anyways, lots of options out there.
Enjoy,
Bambu

Bambu - Is the LK Metropole/Renaissance 100% girl friendly? I looked at the Sabai Resort as well before....have you had experience staying there?

i stayed at sabai resort in 2005 and 2006. my friends in HK like to stay there. i thought it was too expensive compared to other places. i think the rooms started at 2,500thb then. $50 is a good price (i think those "paradise" rooms were 4,500 back then).
they have a big pool which is nice if you like to hang by the pool. no internet in room but that may have changed. breakfast buffet was nice. it was girl friendly back then can't imagine they've changed that policy.

I stayed there several years ago. I like it. Convenient to Big C and Massage Parlors, but far from Walking Street (have to take Baht Bus (which stops in front of hotel)). Subsequently, I have stayed nearer Walking Street.
Re Internet: On 9/26/08, Sabai Lodge emailed me the following:"We have internet in room at Deluxe Pool View (Sabai Wing) and room rate including internet." Other wings (read most of Sabai Lodge) do not have internet.
Do not know what the current situation is.

LMarv...The LK hotels are guest friendly. The Renaissance stations a guy at the door at night to collect the girls' ID'S and log them in. I never tried bringing in more than one girl at a time so I don't know if that would pose a problem.

Both LK hotels allowed me to bring back multiple girls during my stay in March 2009. Their rack rates are really high, but the internet hotel booking sites have good deals for a lot of the pricier hotels in Pattaya at the moment. I encourage anyone staying in town to take a look at Agoda before booking.
I am staying in the Ruen Thai Paradise at the Sabai Resort for 50 USD a night. In the past, I have paid close to 100 USD for these rooms.
There are about 20 Ruen Thai Paradise rooms that are all around a private pool just feet from your front door. I really like the vibe. The rooms are decent and they have room service 24/7.
Since I am only down on Walking Street in the evenings, I don't mind staying so far away. During the day, I spend time at Big C, Soi 6, the Welkome Inn, and soapys. All of these locations are within walking distance of Sabai Resort.
I actually think the LKs are in the perfect location. Close to the new malls and in between Big C and Walking Street.

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pics look exactly like the room I stayed in (room # 615) during my stay between Feb 10-22. It had combo tub/shower but no jacuzzi. I payed 2800 baht a night. Sandy Springs is a great location on Soi 13 for catching a baht bus in either direction of Beach Rd or 2nd Rd., and the staff speak excellent English. The only downside I found is that they did a lousy job of laundering and pressing my clothes.

I stay in the sea view suites. I like Sandy Springs and will likely stay there again for the following reasons:
(1) The view there is fantastic.
(2) Very convenient.
(3) Staff is very nice.
I only have two complaints:
(1) You have to pay a lot for internet use (see below). Whitehouse Condotel internet is around 100 baht/day and Pattaya Bay Resorts is free. (It should be noted that Sandy Springs sometimes runs an unlimited internet promotion in low season). If I do not stay at Sandy Springs the next trip, it will be due to the internet issue.
(2) The TVs need a significant upgrade (19 inch tube). Both Whitehouse Condotel and Pattaya Bay Resorts have nice TVS.
2/7/10
“Dear Sir,
The internet rates are 30 min = 60 THB , 60 min = 120 THB, 5hrs = 500 THB
and maximum 24hrs = 600 THB”

Yes, the internet was an issue, not only in terms of an extra fee being required, but also connectivity. There were times when I lost the connection during a call back to the states. Outside of that and the laundry, I really liked the place, although I'll be staying elsewhere when I arrive next week.
