February 2010 trip to Pattaya, Thailand

Pre-trip (this is written from a pre-trip perspective!)

Intro:

Late October 2009. Things are going pretty damn well in my life. Very happy in the job and glad I have moved back closer to family and old friends. Doing better at squirreling away some cash. Desire to find a solid female relationship is not there, but that is OK, I am happy. An occasional dalliance and revival of old hook-ups getting me by. A cold Midwestern winter is on the way and time to plan a mongering birthday getaway for February for a bit over two weeks.

The Philippines are played out. Sure I have some ex-pat friends that are fun and the GFE illusion (reality?) is top notch. Pinay skill level however seems lacking. PI is now old hat now and it is time for something different. Re-visit of prior trips is a thought, but is scuttled. Brazil is out of the budget for a two week plus trip. Venezuela too far in the past, current data lacking, and has issues currently that might be a bit much. New grounds are needed and research is done through Thanksgiving.

Columbia comes really close with the thought of a Medellin and Cartagena split. Beach, discos, upscale pussy, latin flavor, almost... Cuba right up there, but loses out apparent lack of ease of use... things like its quirky aspects and lack of true brothels. Peru weather looks to be a tick cold for February and I question if it is a two week destination. Other South America just not hitting any of my buttons. China gets some attention, but I feel I need more seasoning elsewhere in Asia first. Indonesia looks too difficult and jumbled especially without a guide and no prior Asia travel for me. Cambodia a little too third world. Central America and Dominican Republic very minor interests not being exotic enough and seen as almost going backwards on my monger resume. Europe, Africa, and India not even considered.

Thailand fits, and particularly Pattaya. A first foray into Asia. Transition from the Philippines looks to be very easy. Tourist friendly and many options for getting my rocks off. Easy on the budget. Diet of petite women on the menu. I hear great things about the food. Lots of other things to do if I get bored or need a break.

I really tired not to over-plan and decided to go straight to Pattaya by airport cab on arrival at midnight. Booked hotels for just the first four nights. Thoughts of perhaps ending with the last couple of days in Bangkok. Did research into Koh Samet island which is a couple hours away from Pattaya as an option for break taking a well vetted girl along with me. I put together a mental list of goals, but that is mostly just experiencing the variety of obtaining and indulging in the women... Go-go, beer bar, blow job bar, soapie, massage, short-time bar, freelancers.

I went solo, but through ClubHombre I found a couple of Pattaya vets where going to be in town and set-up contacts. Through another board I saw a guy near my home was going too and we met up at a local strip club pre-trip. He will likely be a buddy for years to come.

Preparations:

Research: I did much of my research on two message boards aside from ClubHombre:

http://www.pattayasecrets.com/ A number of jerk-offs, but decent free forum. Somewhat annoying reverence for the hotel which site and subsequently quite spotty for other lodging research. Two tiered membership, but the Level 2 is just for nude and explicit pictures I have little interest in. Lots of trash to sift through in the threads.

http://www.pattaya-addicts.com/ Very much the same as Secrets. Far better in the hotel and lodging section. Same two tiered membership.

Language: I tried some online resources to attempt learning some basics. Utter failure and gave up quickly. Thai is something I have no ear for. Language has never been easy for me.

Flight booking: I hate United Airlines, but I am starting to build a respectable amount of miles with them. Economy on my budget booked directly. The up-charge for premium economy did not look worth it for me as I get along fairly well and my back has been getting better.

Budget: Figuring a budget is something many get really caught up in and has so many variables particularly for a new venue trip. Looking about, I figured perhaps $250 or so a day if doing a short and longtime while staying at decent hotels and not concerned about watching the pennies. I do not qualify as wealthy, but if it went over it would not affect me as much as regrets of being too tight-assed would.

Money: I took a mix. Enough cash and travelers checks to cover the trip. Admittedly I do have a cash fetish and think clearer exchanging cash rather than cards. I did notify my bank I would be overseas for ATM usage and the credit card company as well. For a serious emergency a couple dear old friends could Western Union funds.

Packing: Just one carry-on limit sized backpack packed about 3/4 full. No laptop. Hand-washable clothing which I did mostly hand-wash. The doing my own laundry thing is a personal thing and makes me feel more free and mobile. I was light, but still over-packed and did not heed advice of just buying clothing there. If I were to return, just one change of clothes brought in would be plenty.

Quick packing list. (Starred are what was quite useful)

Wear: Convertible pants, Waterproof sports shoes/sandals (Keen Arroyo IIs), Polyester Dri-shirt, Long sleeve cotton t-shirt, Long sleeve WeatherProof button down shirt, Belt, Stocking cap, Belt loop wallet*
In carry-on clothing: 2 Cargo shorts*, 3 Polyester Dri-shirts, 4 Polyester polos (one pink as a salute to the dummy*), Swim trunks, 5 pair underwear
Misc: Basic toiletries for a few days plus good razor cartridges, about six dozen condoms*, Astroglide and KY jelly, travel alarm clock*, camera and gear (little Canon compact), cell phone ready for a SIM card*, about a dozen simple face masks (domino and zorro style), four remaining Cialis pills, Ambien, and some other little crap like pens, reading material, ect..



Just as these were awesome pre-trip buys:

RedHead Ripstop Cargo Shorts. They dry quick. Very well built. Good length as they are not needlessly long. Nice cell phone pocket. aw fuck... meant FIRST, man.. i gotta email hombre. One girl from Ruby's on Soi 6 did take a fist while being backdoored in a sideways postion.. the fingers just kept going in until.. hmmm, slimy wrist.. but that story later
